3 Pitching Prospects Who Can Impact the 2025 Twins
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk

Enjoy following the AFL, Steve, and really appreciate your reports. Didn't Rosario lead the AFL last fall in home runs? Or was second or something? Have always liked this kid who seems to be on track to making the big leagues over the next year or two. What type of big leaguer he will become remains unknown. After seeing how many runs the team gave up in their first five games I was shocked at seeing how few were allowed by the Twins five pitchers.

No, I am just saying that 2040 will be here before you know it. You see I don't dislike the Pohlad family like so many of you. I appreciate owners who run their teams like a business, thus, increasing the likelihood that the team won't be on the brink of financial destruction. I expect the biggest reason the Pohlad's are considering a sale is because of the ill will that has expanded both on sites like this and also traditional media,. If they do complete a sale, I pray that it is to another local group who cares about the Twin Cities and not an outside group who has zero ties to the Twin Cities. As for someone buying to relocate, I suspect there are many mega-billionaires living in places like Nashville, Indianapolis, Charlotte, Austin, Portland and other cities who would love to own their own major league baseball team. Should one of those end up buying the team, I fear for Twins fans in the Twin Cities.

Can The Twins Trust José Miranda? And If So, How Much?
roger replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don't know what 2025 will bring for this young man. We have to believe that his disappointing second half was injury related. Unfortunately, the number of Twins that you can say this about is well, almost everyone. My preference would be to bring Santana back with Miranda and others sharing time with him. Don't know if that is the direction they are heading. If not, is some combination of Miranda, AK, and Julien at first next spring? Continue to believe that AK can be a special hitter. If he can ever stay healthy. Also believe he is a bit better defensively, although average at best. I guess what I envision is Miranda playing first when a lefty is on the hill, a bit of third when Lewis needs a blow and half the games at DH.- 26 replies

Twins Daily Minor League All Stars - 2024: The Hitters
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Love to see these at year's end, Seth. Thanks! After reading Nick's piece about the future of baseball revenue wise, expect that developing players is going to become more important for the Twins and a lot of other teams. Sure as heck like this group. Will be interesting to see how many of them make it to Target Field next summer. Could Keaschall be the best yet of all those middle infielders coming thru the organization the last few years? Amazing what he did this year playing with an arm and a half.- 11 replies

Thanks John for putting this together. The one free-agent I would like back is Santana. His defense was flat out fantastic. Will be interesting winter waiting to see if they do get creative. But really, 2025 success will be based on how much they get out of their two players making over $50M. If they play most of the season and perform like when they were healthy last year, the Twins can be good. If not, is gonna be another long season.

Twins Short-Season Minor League Pitcher of the Year-2024
roger replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
What I found most interesting was how little the Twins have got from the previous seven winners. Granted, winners the past few seasons wouldn't be expected to arrive by now. But the only name on the list who has pitched for the Twins is Moran. And although he has great stuff, his control limited him to being a disappointment. Maybe he will come back from this year's injury and put it together.- 5 replies

Thanks for the report, Seth. Bit surprising seeing Rosario go for a second year. Do you recall when that last happened? The way they have been drafting college pitchers and bringing them along to be good prospects, gotta wonder who from this year's AFL group will be in that next group about to join the Twins. Personally, considering how much time Jenkins missed, would have loved to see him go. Any idea or inside information Seth on why he didn't?

Can agree with most of what you said, Bean. Truth is we don't know if the Twins made or lost money in either of those years as none of us has access to their financial statements. Or do you? The only year we can likely know for sure is that they lost a lot of money in 2020, considering the expenses they continued paying while much of baseball made huge cuts. Will join you in being disappointed in what they didn't do at the trade deadline. I was in the camp that was hoping they would make a bigger trade for a youngish starting pitcher even though few of their moves the last few years have panned out well. But with the way their hitters went in the tank the last six weeks, there isn't much they could have done that would have made a big difference.

I am so tired of seeing everyone bashing the team/owners for cutting payroll. Actually, Cody, your article wasn't all that bad. You see I believe they did not, let me repeat, did not cut payroll. Like most businesses they likely have an annual budget and other projections going out three to five years. In those projections they would have assumed $x payroll. What I believe happened is Falvey sat down with ownership the winter before 2023 spring training and said "I am shocked but we can actually sign Correa to a relatively good contract, but it is gonna put us $20-$30M over budget." Ownership obviously said, ok, because they did it. Management also likely knew they were going to have to right size the payroll come 2024. But they had a year to do that. So I believe that payroll for this year is right where they had projected. Yes, that was substantially less than last year but that was because they approved a one-time increase to sign Correa. And rather than bashing ownership, we should have been raving about the increase they provided to sign Carlos. I expect none of you will either agree with me or even consider this may actually be the case. Like you, I don't have a clue if this is what happened. But looking at everything they have done it is certainly possible.

I can't see any reason for the Twins keeping Julien. Well, one. And that's the fact he has little value and wouldn't bring much in a trade. So I don't see him being moved over the winter. Hopefully, he will have a better spring and do well at St. Paul next April-July. They might then be able to include him in a trade and get something for him. As for the mention about first base above, I sincerely hope one of the Twins few moves this winter is to re-sign Santana. Guy hits ok and has been spectacular at first base
-
I certainly hope so. Hopefully, they will prepare him in spring training to go anywhere from 1-3 innings with a day or two rest between outings. Would be very valuable to have a guy who can come in with and out or two in the fourth inning, get you out of the jam and pitch another inning or two. Hopefully, Varland realizes this is a good spot for him and doesn't pout about not being a starter. Would also give the Twins another solid later inning guy to go with Jax, Duran, hopefully a healthy Stewart, and Alcala hopefully for a full year. The biggest need I see for 2025 is to go out and find a solid lefty, either via free agency or trade. Add Cole Sands and they would have seven solid arms (Jax, Duran, Stewart, Alcala, Varland, Sands, and Leftie X)....when healthy.
-
I too was extremely disappointed in Eric's use of the 'h' word. As for the story, expect that Alcala is tired, as his performance has indicated the past month or so.

Great seeing Jenkins get a hit. Expect just getting a few games at AA will be huge for his development. Any word, Seth, on who is going to the AFL? When does that season start? Soon?

Thanks for the report, Seth. Won't be long and you will have to find something else to do with all your free time. Will double down on Finn's question regarding Rodriguez? Will second the above comments about moving Jenkins up to get a few AA at bats. Find it interesting that Keirsey will stay with the Twins and Martin moving over to St. Paul. Is that about his being available to pinch run these last few weeks? Or are they assuming Buxton won't play center every day and want to keep his defense?

Twins Minor League Report (9/10): Jenkins' Double-A Debut
roger replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
If Jenkins is the #1 prospect next year, will he be the first Twin ever to be #1? Exciting seeing Jenkins at AA and ERod at AAA. On track for both helping the 2025 Twins battle for the playoffs. Also good seeing Funderburk with a clean inning in his rehab. Will he return to the Twins before years end? They sure could use a second lefty in the pen. But more important, can he be a solid lefty for them in 2025?- 9 replies

Have been saying that for weeks. No way do they want to play the Yankees, or Birds. Now they just got to win a few games and get into October ball. That is looking more uncertain every game.

Minor League Report (9/8): Kyle DeBarge Goes Out With a Bang
roger replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Best news of the day for me was Jenkins moving up to AA. Should be great experience and put him in line to begin 2025 at Wichita. A good first half should see him in St. Paul next summer. Will he make the jump all the way to the Twins? Wouldn't it be fantastic to have ERod and Jenkins both in the Twins lineup for the 2025 playoffs?- 9 replies

I can't remember ever seeing a grand slam that was inside the park. Can you remember any, Seth? Three innings from Prielipp with all zeros, 75% strikes and 6 K's is flat out amazing. Great seeing him edge above 40 pitches per start. Question, Seth, what is the velocity on his fastball? And yes, it is time for all of us to get on the Connor Prielipp band wagon. Biggest question is how soon that wagon will arrive at Target Field? Late next year? In 2026?

Absolutely fantastic, Seth, seeing ERod's name in the Saints box score. After missing so much time I don't care what the results are. Just want to see him playing every day. It seems like almost every game there is a mention of Jenkins in the Kernels write-up. Usually with a double. A few more three hit games like yesterday and he will be hitting over .300 average with a .900 OPS. Not bad for a what, 19 year-old, in high-A after missing a good chunk of the season. Continue to dream that this kid just might be the real deal?
