  1. True. But several things about that game make it not seem as bad as the numbers look. First, it was early on his comeback and all six runs scored in the third inning when he was approaching his pitch limit. Second, he got two outs before the wheels came off. And the third earned run scored on a double steal, second and home. An error would have ended the inning, before exiting and the last three runs scoring. Yes, three earned runs wasn't good. But considering where he was in his comeback, that type of game could be expected. Considering his lack of any pro experience and the rate at which he is striking guys out would earn a mention, at least from me.
  2. Great seeing Jenkins with another double, Steve. Seems he has been hitting a double or home run nearly every game of late. After a slow start in Cedar Rapids, is now hitting like we would have hoped. Question, is it likely he begins 2025 at Wichita?
  3. Don’t often disagree, DJL44, but they have to keep him as a starter. Certainly will be a few years before he gets well over 100+ innings. But that’s ok.
  4. True. But let’s hope Buxton is the center fielder to start the season. That would put ERod sharing time in right and left with Waller and Larnach. Would it be better for him to be playing full time in St Paul?
  5. Was scratching my head, Tom, when reading your comment about Beltre's numbers. The 1.071 OPS was correct, however, his slugging was .618, not .518. Assume you had a typo. Thanks for a great report. Really like ERod, Jenkins and this Beltre kid. When does Prielipp next pitch?
  6. Had completely forgotten about Rosario. Has a few weeks remaining to remind us that he is a good prospect. Great seeing some of those doubles from Jenkins leaving the ballpark. Nice progression to end the season after his late start.
  7. Continue to believe in this young man who may have been their best pitcher a few years back at Wichita. Was impressed watching his last few outings. Expect he will join the Twins Sunday as the 14th pitcher when rosters expand. Likely will also see Lee back on that date. Do players still need to be on the roster 8/31 to be post season eligible? If so, think we will see Lee back a day earlier.
  8. Highlight for me last night, Seth, was Prielipp. Thirty pitches with twenty-four strikes is almost unheard of. Is it possible he throws too many strikes? Is that possible, Seth? Also great seeing Jenkins with another double, rbi and run scored. Obviously seeing Lee play and put one out helps making for a good night. Question. With Lee and Buxton close to returning, who gets sent down/or/out?
  9. Loved this post, Cody. Thanks! Also learned a few things. I didn't realize that DeAndrade was this good defensively. Will double down on the above comment from FlyingFinn about his missing so much time this year. Will be fun following him next year to see if his bat improves. Wasn't impressed when DeBarge was drafted. Mostly because I knew nothing about him. Didn't have a clue he had this type of speed and base running savvy. Makes that pick look a lot more interesting. Also didn't realize Gonzalez had an arm that was special. Sure makes the Polo trade look better. A lot better if his bat keeps developing. Only thing that would have made this post even better, Cody, would have been if you had included a second or even two players who were in contention for the top spots.
  10. Really like how Jenkins is progressing in Hi-A. Began late following his injury, doing very well in A ball. Moves up to Cedar Rapids and struggles a bit. Continued to struggle a bit longer than many of us liked. But then he slowly began improving. Began with some hits. Of late, have been frequent doubles in multi-hit games. Then last night he picks up three hits and a bomb. Really like his progress and still think this kid just might become a super-star. The question remains whether or not he will begin next year in Wichita and move all the way to the Twins late in the season? I guess we will need to stay tuned to learn the answer.
  11. I think we may be surprised how this turns out this fall/winter. I recall Max saying something back when he signed this contract, something to the effect that he couldn't believe what he was being paid to play a game he would play for little or nothing. I don't recall the quote, but it was something like that. Yes, he may be gone in free agency. I for one won't be surprised, however, if he resigns with the Twins on a one or two year contract for less than he was paid this year. Perhaps a lot less. On the other hand, I also won't be surprised if he retires. As for Max playing next year, I believe the Twins do not have anyone ready who will be better. Yes, Wallner will hit more home runs, but Max plays better D. And Larnach may also hit more home runs with a similar average, but again Max plays better D. Granted, he isn't as fast as he was and his D is no longer amongst the best in baseball. But it is still very good, most of the time. Year after next the situation will be different as the Twins should see either one or both of their top prospects arrive.
  12. A month ago I thought it was time to start giving Varland some innings in the pen for St. Paul. Then Ryan goes down and I thought, wooo nellly, let's hold off on that. But the end of the year is getting close and the Twins can't afford too many more late inning blow-ups. So yes, get Varland into the pen this weekend so he is on the Twins roster come August 31 (that's important, isn't it?). He can be used as a multi-inning reliever every third or fourth day. Saves innings for the three guys that are important. Also means he is pitching enough that he could make a spot start the last month and go four or five innings. Kind of the best of both worlds. The important thing is that the Twins pen needs him, now. That's assuming he pitches like last year and not this year.
  13. Don't know what you were drinking last night, Seth? But your prospect summary for Jenkins makes no sense. He didn't have 2 home runs or 6 RBI. He also wasn't 1-4. The box score says he was 1-3 with a walk and yes, the hit was a double. Good news is there have been lots of doubles of late. Remember watching Winder pitch for the Twins last week, or maybe earlier this week. Though he really had good stuff. Then he and Varland both go out and aren't all that sharp last night. Really wish both of these young men would be consistently good when down in the minors.
  14. Way to many guys who cause me to grimace when entering the game.
  15. Although Beltre went 0 for 4 yesterday, he sure had one fantastic season (1.071 OPS). Lets hope he is the real deal and works his way up the ladder WITHOUT an injury or two interrupting every season.
  16. Continue to be impressed by MacLeod. Thought he was an interesting draft pick back when. Then forgot about him when he rehabbed for over a year. Also great seeing another two hit night from Jenkins. Been a lot of those of late.
  17. great seeing Gonzalez playing well. Hopefully, he can stay on the field the rest of the season. Good seeing Prielipp settle down after a trying first inning. See he had just over 40 pitches again. Is there any news on ERod?
  18. Three home run nights gets one's attention, at least mine! Did not realize how young he is. Hopefully, will see him at Target Field before he turns 22. Love seeing Raya with 80+ pitches. Also good seeing him get into and out of a jam last night. Sure helps his development. Great seeing Jenkins with another two hit night with a double. Seems he has more of those of late.
  19. I would flip Matthews and Festa. Impressed the you know what out of me in his first start. Understand, we need to see more.
  20. Speaking of striking out, see that Culpepper has only 2 K's in 24 at bats, along with 3 walks. Gotta like how he has started his pro career. And yes, Beltre's name sure gets your attention, at least mine. And those of us on the Jenkins watch saw another nice game last night. 2-4 with a double, walk, 2 runs scored and noooo K's.
  21. I like this discussion about several pitchers who won't be ready next spring, but are getting close. Lopez. Ober, Ryan, SWR and Paddack are all back. Add Festa, Matthews and Varland and you have 8 guys who should be very solid going into 2025. With more guys on the horizon, the Twins just may have too many starting pitchers. I know that should never be a problem, but how long will it be before they don't have 40 man roster spots available and are looking to lose some good prospects to the Rule 5. Certainly not this year, but next? Should be fun seeing how the FO deals with this situation. Hopefully, they make moves and get something in return.
