Thanks for the report, Seth, they are appreciated. Add me to the list of those who are ecstatic with what we are seeing from Soto of late. Let's hope he keeps it up for the rest of the season. Was good to see Gonzalez both playing and getting a couple hits. With all the time he has missed, we probably don't have a good feel for what he can be.

First time seeing Zebby pitch last night. Love the way he fills the zone with noooo walks. Kid sure looks like he might be a good one. And Morris seems to be following in his footsteps. Assuming Festa, Matthews and Varland don't self-destruct, Twins look in great shape for 2025 and beyond. Took a look at the DSL Twins box score. That Beltre kid seems like a hitting machine. See he was an All-Star. Considering how many teams and players are in that league, that's saying something. Also saw they had a kid pitch all 9 innings last night. Was curious how many pitches he threw, but it didn't say. Bit surprised they would let a 17 year old go that deep into a game.

Holy Cow!!!! Was thinking about who would start Tuesday over this morning's coffee while reading the Strib. Couldn't see them going with Ober on three days rest. Twins just don't do that, nor should they. To be honest, couldn't think of another option. Calling up Zebby never crossed my mind. Considering what I have now read in the past 15 minutes, I like it. Don't have a clue how he will do tomorrow, but it will be the first step he will take towards becoming a big part of the 2025 starting rotation. Yes, most of us were disappointed that they weren't able to get another solid starter last winter, or two weeks ago. But a lot of us sure are happy to see their pipeline pitching at Target Field. And what would we have thought had they traded Festa or Matthews for a rental? They won't be looking to trade for, or sign free agent starters next winter. Not with Lopez, Ober, Ryan, Paddack (he is under team control for another year, isn't he?), Woods-Richardson, Festa, Varland and Matthews. That's eight starting pitchers. And it doesn't include any of the guys down at AA right now. OK, one may go to the pen and another sure could start in St. Paul. But another can be injured and they still have five. I like it.

Minor League Report 8/11: Kaelen Culpepper Continues to Rake
roger replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Another good game by a trio of recent draft picks playing in Fort Myers. Always good seeing Jenkins getting an extra base hit. Has been more of them of late.- 6 replies

Understand why he isn't considered in this conversation, but I believe that Prielipp may be the best of all these guys. Just needs to put his extended injuries behind him......and stay healthy. Should be interesting to see how the two young pitchers taken in this draft will perform. With the FCL done early, will either be pitching this year?

Didn’t realize the FCL was done early. Do you know why?

In addition to Culpepper there was what, six recent draft picks in the Fort Myers lineup? I don't recall that many recent picks in the past beginning their careers in low-A, did they? Was wondering if Raya's recent start when he went 79 pitches was his best. That was until last night. Interesting that he finished six innings with only 57 pitches. The Kernels must have left their bats in Cedar Rapids. Well, everyone except Jenkins who was 2 for 4 with a double. See he has only a couple walks which is way down from when he was with the Mussels. Expect he will be learning a lot from the move up to Hi-A.

Another nice inning by Topa. With some of the relief appearances of late, gotta believe he will be on the Twins roster by this weekend? Was that Sota's best start? Sure looks interesting, but Fort Myers is a long, long way from Target Field.

Great seeing Jenkins with nights like last night. Hopefully, he has put the adjustment to Hi-A behind him and he will be the player we hope for the next month, plus.

Why are the Twins Waiting on Louie Varland?
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At first glance, agreed with most of what you said. But after reading the comments, gotta agree that the wise decision may be to wait a few weeks before making the move to the pen. If they get Topa back by the weekend, the need for Louie at this time is reduced. Must disagree with one thing you said, however, Ted. That was another comment about ownership not allowing them to up the payroll cost at the deadline. Yes, there were reports that was true. However, that may not be the main reason they only made one minor deal. Great article in today's Strib by Souhan that not doing more at the deadline may have been a smart decision. He mentioned that back when Gardy was manager he was bugging Terry Ryan to make some deals as the deadline approached. Ryan invited him to spend the deadline day with him in his office. Gardy later commented he didn't believe what other GM's were asking and he also wouldn't have given up the prospect talent to make those deals. Was last week another example of that?- 33 replies

Minor League Report (8/4): Wichita Literally Walks it Off
roger replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Reggie Grace continues to get the 'silent treatment' from both the writers at TD and those of us who comment nearly every day. This young man has a 1.80 ERA in 20 games (30 innings) at AA. Why haven't we seen him mentioned in the reliever of the month talk? Or was he earlier in the year? Is 20 games this late in the season too little work? Gotta believe it is time to start considering him an option in the Twins pen. Perhaps not this year, but surely next. Curious if anyone knows more about what he throws, how hard he throws, etc. Is he a candidate to be a mid to late inning reliever?- 27 replies

Great seeing Soto on this list. Long way to go, but encouraging. Was surprised seeing Varland as every once in a while he has a real clunker. Guess I remember those more than the good ones. Gotta admit his overall results were worthy.

Could not agree more, Mike. Move him to the pen for a week or ten days, then bring him up. Adding Louie and Topa would make that pen look awfully nice. Now if Stewart could only get healthy?

Just when you start thinking it is time to move Varland to the pen, he has a game like last night. See that Julien had a nice hit to get involved in the scoring. Also saw he struck out 3 times.

Thanks for those comments, tony. After seeing the score, went to the recap to see how he did. Noticed he dominated the first two innings with 4 K's. Seemed like he ran out of gas approaching and then going over 40 pitches. There also was a balk in that third inning. Was thinking he both ran out of gas and was losing his mental focus when it hit the fan. Considering how little he has pitched in his professional career, outings like this aren't a surprise.

Great seeing Topa with another good inning. Have to believe he is close to joining the Twins pen. Will be interesting to see who goes down. Will it be Dobber? Also great seeing Jenkins with another nice game. Although its only a couple games, interesting he has 4 K's and noooo walks. Although Raya only pitched 4+ innings, see he was up to nearly 80 pitches (79).

Disappointing that Julien continues to strike out about one-third of the time in AAA. Yes, Oliver's ridiculous (good) numbers are based on only a handful of at bats. But, his numbers before moving up were very good. Is he a capable catcher? Or will his future fall short because of his D? When their #1 pick signed for slot, it became clear there wasn't any money to sign either of the two college guys they drafted late on Day 3. Yes, they both would have been interesting prospects. But I am as happy as the proverbial pig in you know what that they signed both the High School pitcher from Texas AND the lefty from Madison Tech. Went well over budget to get both. Hopefully, they will both stay healthy and be excellent prospects by this time next year.

Does anyone know how good Severino is defensively? Was a pleasant surprise this year watching Santana play there. He really is excellent. On the other hand Miranda needs a lot of work and AK hasn't had the time healthy to improve over being acceptable.

Thanks for the report, Seth. First thing I did was check the Cedar Rapids box score to see if Prielipp pitched. He didn't. Then went to the end of your report to see if he was starting today, he isn't. Assume your mention of a couple of firsts for Jenkins were his first hit and first run scored? Guessing it also was his first stolen base?

Bailey Ober Has Gone From Exceptional to Very Exceptional
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great read, Nick, thanks. Add me to those who believe Ober has replaced Sonny as a solid #2. Question remains how he will fare in September and whether or not the Twins can get him a few starts off? Is important that the Twins skip his start when playing in Kansas City. -
Excited to see what Jenkins does at the next higher level. Also waiting for Prielipp to make his next start. Checking box scores saw that the hitting stud for the Twins in the DSL is a 17 year old named Beltre. Any relation to the guy we just saw in Cooperstown a few weeks ago?

Add me to the list of those who were disappointed yesterday. However, with the failure of so many pitchers traded for the past several years, maybe nothing is good. Do understand not giving up too much young talent for a rental. As for Headrick. Must admit I had forgotten about him. On the other hand, loved DMan's comment above about Prielipp. Guess the next couple starts for the Kernels will tell us a lot.
