  1. Thanks, Seth. What got me thinking about them is that he appears to me while watching that clip to look a bit like Ramirez. Am talking about his build, etc. That got me wondering, with his 30 home run power, could he maybe be something like him?
  2. I don't know enough about either Severino or Ramirez to make a informed comparison. What got me thinking that was more how they appeared to me. They looked kind of similar, Severino's size and watching him on that clip compared with what I remember from seeing Ramirez playing the Twins. And we sure as heck wouldn't mind finding someone with Ramirez' talent, eh?
  3. Cedar Rapids is 31 games over .500. WOW! And Wichita is only 4 games under .500. It seems that team never loses after losing most of the first half. When I watched that clip of Severino, I kept thinking he reminds me of Clevland's Ramirez. Is that a fair comparison? Could he possibly be that good in a couple years? Is his defense at third base adequate? Or is he better suited for second? Sure going to be interesting watching the front office deal with their infielders going into spring training 2024. As of today they would have AK, Polonco, Julien, Farmer, Correa, Lewis Miranda, Gordon and Castro (I am assuming Gallo is gone). Add Solano should they decide to bring him back. The best prospects next up would be Lee, Martin and Severino. And they are all close. That could be as many as thirteen players for 6 or 7 spots on their roster. Yes, the three prospects can begin their season at St. Paul and Castro and Gordon also play outfield, but it sure seems that one or more will have to go if they pick up Polo's option and bring Solano back. Hopefully, they can find a good trading partner to bring back someone to fill a position of need.
  4. Great seeing Castro playing for the Saints. Expect he will not be recalled until Friday, when he will be one of the two players added when the roster goes to 28. Will double down on questioning your comment, Ted, regarding Moran. Yes, he didn't allow any runs, but the box score says he pitched one inning with a hit and 3 walks, not strikeouts. Also elated how well Miller has been hitting. If memory serves, I recall that he wore down last year and didn't hit a lick the last few months of the season. Great seeing him pick it up this year and may be hitting the best of his career the past several weeks. Also great seeing the Mick, Walker Jenkins, follow his three hit game with two singles in his third game at A ball. Saw something interesting in the Fort Myers box score. A pitcher for the other team was Cody Adcock, who is from Arkansas. Recall one of the best power hitters in the game back in the 50's was the Braves Joe Adcock. Recall he was from either Arkansas or Louisiana. Gotta wonder if Cody could be related to the man who once hit four home runs in a game with a double that came within a few feet of going out.
  5. I see that Wichita is only 6 games under .500. Considering how terrible they were the first half, it is unbelievable that they just might end the season at .500. They must be planning on Jenkins playing every other game, or something like that? That Keaschall kid sure is having a nice start to his pro career.
  6. Gotta like a young man who takes one game to adjust to a new league and then puts up a three-spot. I cannot tell you how much I want this young man to be the next Mickey Mantle. For all of you talking about bringing up Martin instead of Castro, it ain't gonna happen. The Twins have three players on the IL who all should be healthy sometime in September, Castro, AK and Buxton, likely in that order. One spot on the active roster will come from expanding it to 28 later this week (the other spot will likely go to a pitcher). A second spot will come from either DFA'ing or optioning Ludlow to St. Paul (does he have an option remaining?). That means there is one more move needed and I for one will wait to see what the front office does to create that. Expect it will be some roster engineering as it will likely only be for a few days or a week. It also could come from another injury or one of the three not being healthy enough to return before the season ends. I also don't understand why many of you would prefer to bring up Martin rather than Castro. Castro has been one of the Twins most valuable players this year. A player who makes the team better when he is available to play either as a starter or off the bench. Yes, Martin may have a bright future, but that can wait until next spring.
  7. Thanks, Steve. It is great getting your first hand comments about the kids in Cedar Rapids. Cannot be happier to see Miller beginning to turn the corner. Is his defense as special as some suggest? Is there anyone who has come thru the league that you could compare him to?
  8. 100% agree, Cody, that the Twins need to bring back or sign one solid starter. That would put Varland and Paddock in a battle for #5/#6. Agree it is unlikely Gray isn't back, but it would be smart for the Twins to do a QO to get the high draft pick. Can clearly see the Twins being very interested in signing Maeda to an extension. Question will be how much and how long. Wouldn't surprise me if they do it shortly before the end of the season.
  9. Question, Seth. Could Murphy be an answer for the Twins bullpen? Or is it more likely that Varland will be moved into the bullpen a few weeks from now? Thanks for the report. Looking forward to seeing how Jenkins does now that he is in A- ball.
  10. Thanks for a good smile, Mike. I needed it today.
  11. Add me to those who believe the two roster spots will go to vets coming off the IL. Expect there is a chance that both spots go to position players to get Buxton, AK and Castro back with only one current player being sent out (likely Ludlow, sp?). Finding a second position player gets real tough as Wallner, Julien and Lewis aren't going anywhere. I know lots of you believe they should DFA Gallo, I won't disagee but will be surprised if they do that.
  12. Appreciate the above comments, especially those about Severino's defense. As we see his power numbers increase at St. Paul, was asking myself the last few days...Has he surpassd Miranda as the next best option at third base on the Twins depth chart? Kid seems to have legit power and striking out around 30% of his plate appearances isn't all that bad. Twins got lucky when Atlanta decided to bend the rules and got this kid for a huge bonus. Maybe it will work out. Just excited as all get out every time I see Bechtold with another clean outing. Will we see him in a Twins uniform come 2024? Sure would be interesting having your third catcher sitting out in the bullpen. Also interesting that Noah Miller's August numbers are better than the earlier months, much better.
  13. Although the sixth starter is a question, the biggest question seems to be roster management as Buxton, AK and Castro come off the IL. The good news is that we are ten days away from the roster expanding by 2. Will both of those be position players? Very likely. Now the playoff roster will be another interesting decision. Expect few of us will be happy with how that decision is made.
  14. 100% agree, but, they are really short experienced first basemen. Miranda has been gone much of the year and now AK. Until AK is back, I understand. As for Kuechel, WOW! Sure created some questions going forward, but of the good kind. Keep wondering how much the strike zone made a difference.
  15. Is great seeing Lee and Martin playing so well at St. Paul. But for those of you clammering for them to be added to the 40-man and called up, it ain't gonna happen. Yes, Martin needs to be added to the 40-man this November. But with Julian, Polo, Lewis, Farmer and Solano on the Twins roster, adding a second baseman is unlikely. Now should they get a rash of injuries to outfielders, maybe. As for Lee, he doesn't need to be added to the 40-man until November 2025. Calling him up next month would mean they would lose someone else in this winter's rule 5. Wouldn't make sense. Expect we will see him sometime next year after they have had a chance to work on their roster over the winter.
  16. Interesting there was no mention of Royce Lewis at all. His double and the run he scored was a big run. But, his play at third was amazing. Had he not gotten it that runner would have scored as the next hitter also had a double. A run there would have given the Pirates some MO and who knows.
  17. Must admit I know very little about Prato. Did a bit of research this morning and see he was a Twins draft pick back in 2019 and is 25 years old. See that he had several decent seasons at the plate before arriving at AAA earlier this year. Since that promotion, the kid has been a different player. Lots of fans say the Twins are loaded in the outfield. Are they? The only true young outfielder showing he wants to stay with the big club is Wallner. Taylor is on a one year contract. Keps may or may not be extended. Is Buxton even an outfielder any longer? Gordon has been replaced by Castro, who plays as much infield as out on the grass. Sure seems to me that there will be a spot for a good prospect come spring. Is Prato someone we could see take it?
  18. Is it, Cody? Polo and Kepler are going to be two huge decisions the front office must make at year end. I can see them going either way with each. Personally, don't have a clue what they will do or even an opinion on what they should. Both have been a huge part of the Twins for as long as many of us can remember. If either or both are gone, will be missed by many of us.
  19. Thanks for the report, Seth. Is exciting seeing Varland have another good start following his last start which was excellent. Seems he is on track as the second option to step in for Kuechel, if he doesn't get it done over the coming weeks. Am assuming that Ryan moves back into the rotation after a couple starts in St. Paul beginning next week. Will be fun to see if Isola is in the midst of a hot streak? Or has he put it together and will hit like this the rest of the season? Count me among those who will be eagerly reading these reports the next week to ten days to see if Jenkins and others get promoted. Will be very disappointed if he and the #3 pick don't keep playing somewhere. Regarding the draft, Seth, do you see the pitcher taken in the first round getting any action before the season is over?
  20. Thanks for the report, Steve. And thanks for the comments about Dobber's outing. Read in the paper over coffee that he gave up 11 hits in 4 innings. Seeing he had been pitching well of late, was really disappointing. Your explanation of what was going on helped. I have a question for you Steve, the TD guys and anyone who sees a lot of games in Wichita. They were not very good during the first half of the season. The second half begins and they promote their three best players to St. Paul. They then begin winning half their games and are in the hunt for first place in their division. Can anyone explain that?
  21. Can't agree with Lee over Lewis. Why? Simple, Lewis has proven he can get it done in the big leagues. Lee has not.
  22. Want to second Dman's comments about DeAndrade. Remember being excited about him when he was signed to the big bonus. Then didn't think about him a lot as his play was ok, but not special. But I kept seeing his name in these daily reports a lot over the past month or so. Kid is young, maybe he is just starting to put it together. Does anyone know much about his defense? Can he stay at short and be a good one? Add me to the growing list of those super excited about those two high school bats. It seems Wichita loses a lot more than they win, how in the world are they only a game out of first in their division?
  23. I think the Twins need to know who Miranda is. Is he the player who hit like an all star in 2021 and 2022? Or is he the player who couldn't hit a lick this year? Unless someone offers them a deal which values him like the old Miranda, they will likely do nothing over the winter. Then if he returns to the player of old, they can move him next summer. The fact is he is average at best in the field and blocked by AK and Lewis at his positions.
  24. Thanks for an interesting report, Seth. Appreciated the age information. Was surprised to see that Raya only turned 21 a week ago. So he can now go out and order a beer. But Miller is gonna have to wait another three months before he can. Two very young prospects that have lots of time to get to where they will hopefully be. Remember seeing Isola's name in these reports a lot last year. Not so much this year. Looked at his stats and he is having a decent year. Is he still considered a catcher?
  25. Interesting, Cody. I would put AK higher on this list. It appears his wrist problem is behind him and the shoulder is the type of injury that is going to happen to most players during their careers. Unfortunately, it happened following several years when he was dealing with the wrist. Certainly Top 5 in my book. He has the ability to be one of the Twins top hitters. Got a good smile when you mentioned that SWR was much younger than the average age in AAA. I cannot recall anything you have written in which the age wasn't pointed out about some/most of the players you are writing about. Yes, age matters. Especially for the younger kids. And yes, SWR is younger than most of us would guess. But the average age in AAA is much older because a lot of AAAA type players push the average age up, a lot for some teams. So being 5 years younger isn't as meaningful as say, in Hi-A. Will agree with the above comments about Martin. The Twins need to understand who he is and stop trying to make him something he isn't. The kid is a lot more like a fast version of Arraez than another power hitting Twin. Won't disagree with where you have him, just think there is a good chance he still ends up being special.
