  1. His approach at the plate is entirely different from virtually everyone else in the lineup- save Eduardo Nunez- both guys seem to be the only ones not to have that "clueless" look the others so often exhibit- these two just always seem to be in the hunt, both early and late in the count, for that pitch they can handle. The main differences being that Nunez has a much expanded zone to swing at, while Rex is happy to take those same pitches and earn a walk. Grossman has also benefited from being ready to swing at the rich bounty of first-pitch strikes he's receiving- so far, he far surpasses any other Twin- in seeing balls over the plate on the first pitch- at a 71%+ rate- plus he has the team's highest overall in-the-zone rate. Those rates, no doubt, will soon change significantly if his success continues. And just give Grossman time until he gets "coached up", he'll become just another "one of the guys" in no time.
  2. Add in Centeno's recent increased presence.... therefore... Terry Ryan = Scrap Bin Recycle King*** *** Genius Level
  3. Yep. The Trib boys (especially Reusse) pulled a classic SI Jinx- in reverse- on Sunday (and before). Sano has been getting better and better as the month has progressed, even as the attacks and demands for demotion to AAA continued against him. (Of course, Reusse will probably end up taking credit for Sano's recent power outburst should it continue much longer- Sano has a chance today to match the Twins record of 5 for most consecutive games hitting a home run- Sano's OPS since May11 is 1.045 and his wRC+ is 176)
  4. I think the watchwords here are- "let's see him do it again"... at the next level. I don't think there's a problem based on his past history in the minors. Once he masters a level over a month or so, he hasn't ever looked back. If the Twins were to somehow decide to leave Buxton down in AAA the entire year, there isn't a doubt in my mind that he would be AAA POY.
  5. Paulie last in the pool: 1. Eduardo Nunez ® 3B 2. Brian Dozier ® 2B 3. Joe Mauer (L) DH 4. Miguel Sano ® RF 5. Robbie Grossman (S) LF 6. Byung Ho Park ® 1B 7. Eduardo Escobar (S) SS 8. Juan Centeno (L) C 9. Danny Santana (S) CF
  6. Any thoughts on where Ramirez currently lies on the upcoming midseason Twins prospect list...? And when he might crack the Top 20.. Top 10?
  7. Longest current streak in the AL Central? Glad you asked... that would be your MN Twins @ 3...
  8. Don't forget to add bad defense into that package, too. Only one official error- but Nunez and Sano, in a just world, committed errors that weren't scored properly.
  9. Did anyone see how pumped Molly was running out of the dugout? That's the kind of unlikely win that can turn the season around... well, at least make it all more palatable. (And we didn't even need the Terry's secret weapon, Rex, to clinch things).
  10. Tell me about it, trying to spend a nice, quiet weekend with the Twins, Radiohead, King Crimson and John Mayer, this sappy stuff comes on, making me wonder if some of my favorite artists have finally sold out...
  11. First sentence- "absolutely right." Second sentence- "How can you tell?"- Particularly since he looks "deer-in-the-headlights"-level overwhelmed at a major league breaking pitch, either way? His major league MO is pretty much that he usually gets to a 2-strike count- usually the result of swinging at, or taking, breaking pitches- and then with Buxton in big trouble behind in the count, it seems every pitcher in the league throws him the down and/or out of the zone curve/slider resulting in yet another feeble Buxton whiff- swinging or looking- regardless, he looks outmatched either way.
  12. Finally, your true identity has been revealed?
  13. I didn't know you knew Japanese, too. I've often thought of turning that... but... n(ot)yet.
  14. You might, if Bartman shows up for a playoff game.
  15. Speaking of an absurd SSS... Buxton's updated numbers for the month of May- since he "flipped the switch"- .387/.446/.720/(1.166) In 75 ABs he has 6 HR and 12 XBH. His K% for the month has improved to around 18%, which is right around his historical MiLB norm. His slash for the entire AAA season would make him the hands-down League MVP- without any consideration whatsoever for his CF defensive prowess- Make a quick check at the link at Fangraphs to confirm the IL hitters leaderboard- http://www.fangraphs.com/minorleaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=2&qual=100&type=1&season=2016&team=0&players=0 I'm his biggest backer, but I wanted him down at AAA to start the season... and I agree with those that note he isn't going to learn a major league curveball dominating against guys that can't throw one of those. How to get from Point A (AAA) to Point B- so that Point B (the Twins starting lineup) is his final destination, once and for all? Hmmmm.....
  16. I'm not writing him off. I'm just wondering how his major league numbers are going to translate based on what's happening this month- I'm not seeing how the major league problems are being addressed, let alone being fixed (admittedly don't have all of the data points- but the K/BB improvement isn't there- and he's never going to be a success, especially at the top of the order, unless something changes radically with the K/BB).
  17. I think you over-estimate most of our chips.
