  1. I saw Buxton play on Sunday and recorded my impression Here. Buxton worked a walk and was hit by a pitch in the back. In addition, he also singled sharply twice, grounded out hard to SS and struck out. To put his day into full perspective, he was batting in front of Steven Wickens and not Jorge Polanco, so he may not have been getting many pitches to hit. In his last 15 games, and 70 PAs, he's been swinging more, but also slightly dropped his K% (from 19.5% to 18.6%), but also meanwhile, cutting his BB% dramatically, from 11.7%% to 4.3%. During this same time frame, his BABIP has jumped, but only from .255 to .294, while his OPS has gone from .665 to .856. His LD% has jumped from 17.5% to 20.4%, while his OFB% has jumped from 28.1% to 34.7%. Suffice to say, he's seeing and hitting the ball a lot better, probably getting more, and better, pitches to hit (58.8% strikes in April vs. 65.5% strikes in May), but most importantly, he's successfully shaking the rust and making the adjustments to AA pitching and parks (Zone Contact is 91.2% in May vs only 77.2% in April). I think he will be just fine going forward.
  2. Generally agreed, and given his work ethic, he's even more athletic than I'd imagined. But yes, he does have a fatal flaw in his make-up. I'd still give his chances on being a productive major league regular at less than 1 in 4, but at least for one day, I didn't see any signs of an all-or-none guy last Sunday,
  3. After seeing both in person for the first time on Sunday, I have to say I was both impressed and pleasantly surprised. The ball was exploding off of Walker's bat- to all fields, and Kepler was effortlessly hitting ropes all over the field (he ended up with 3 hits, 2 doubles- which should have been 3 doubles if not for a great defensive play). Kepler looks like he could eventually adjust his swing to produce more power, while Walker appeared to be actively adjusting his swing situationally to hit line drives as well as fly balls.
  4. Except home run derby players don't generally hit the majority of their homers to the opposite field. FWIW, after seeing Walker hit a massive opposite field home run on Sunday, plus stinging three line drives, in 5 good plate appearances with no strikeouts or swing-for-the-fences whiffs, I'd say he's working hard on removing the label you've given him.
  5. With Thorpe out for at least a year and possibly irreparably harmed and Gonsalves rocking and rolling in the Rapids, shouldn't Thorpe's status be either "Down" or "Uncertain"... and shouldn't Gonsalves' status be either "Way Up" or "Ballooning?"
  6. Yeah, the injury to JD Martinez sure helped to crush any chances for the Tigers. The dude is killing the Twins this year with an 1.181 OPS and 211 OPS+ (and was 2-2 when he left the game). On the matter of the other Martinez, I'm not sure why VMart isn't on the DL- he looks really injured. Ausmus would have been much better off moving JD and Cespedes up in the order. Cespedes has always killed the Twins, as well (1.051 OPS 179 OPS+ in 2015... 1.065 OPS 169 OPS+ for his career).
  7. I think Buxton might have taken the fibula break over three wrist injuries, a concussion and a surgically repaired finger.
  8. Gardenhire effectively threw Molitor under the bus in his postgame comments, without calling him out by name, on more than one occasion last season when the employment of the shift resulted in a run scored against the Twins.
  9. 21 strikes, 19 balls, 2 doubles and a walk- 40 pitches in two innings of work on Sunday, at the tail end of mopping up a 16-3 blowout. I think there's a good chance the fix is going to take a little while longer.
  10. Finally... Hicksie in CF and batting 8th in front of Santana.
  11. All of the 7:00 ET MLB lineups are posted on Rotoworld except for Mollie's. Waiting on Hicks?
  12. Reed does appear to have righted the ship. But Burdi's season stats and my own observations of his pitching on Sunday suggest that he hasn't come very close yet in turning the corner.
  13. Hey JC, any position player standouts in Cedar Rapids (besides Granite who already got the nod), guys who look like they are beginning to stir and could earn a promotion by end of the first half of the season (and perhaps make room for some of the next wave)?
  14. Yeah, I'm not Schafer's biggest fan. But he isn't healthy right now, and is unable to utilize his only plus-asset, his speed. Based on recent history, when the Twins were poring over the waiver wire for a body and even considering Jason Bartlett in CF, keeping Schafer around, on the DL, or in the minors if he clears waivers wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
  15. Unfortunately, there is also the issue with his borderline personality.
  16. Based on the Marlins track record, they don't care about this calculation, they just bring up the best players.
  17. Not me. At the time I said to expect by June to see Buxton in the top ten in multiple hitting categories in the Southern League- he's already eclipsed my timeline . The dude was, is, and will be, the real deal- people still don't appreciate enough what he had to overcome in the aftermath of a nightmare 2014.
  18. Here's where the projected Super 2 date might come into consideration?
  19. Any word on who gets the call to replace Michael? Not any obvious choices at the ready based on performance, Goodrum probably qualifies based on seniority, would they give Gordon a quick look at AA?
