  1. All I see from this data is just one more flaw in their strategy.
  2. Perhaps we soon will have to change the meme about the Twins being so regressive in their thinking...? No, I didn't think so... If you want more hard throwers in the organization, instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, why not follow a plan that has actually worked with a proven track record, and is biomechanically-grounded, with the proper health caveats and a full understanding of when the average fireballer hits his peak velocity?
  3. LOL Between Meyer, Pelfrey and Slegers, plenty of tall redwoods in the paint. Mauer played guard on a high school team that played in the state championship. I'm thinking Buxton would be unstoppable at the PG, plus nobody would get by him defensively. Santana, Gordon and Hicks running out on the fastbreak and applying full-court pressure. Vargas and Sano there to set some nasty mean picks. And I'm thinking Hughes' pinpoint accuracy in hitting a catcher's mitt from 60'6" means he can probably locate quite a few accurate 3-pointers from 22'.
  4. 6'3" but he was always going to play baseball, assumng all other things being equal, just good to see the Twins go after a guy with excess fast-twitch muscle fibers and fully participatory in 2 other high-intensity sports.
  5. I wasn't complaining, LH hit-for-average and power bats at 3rd, and the MI, is a rare and good thing.
  6. I like the video of Blankenhorn at the plate, definitely looks buffed and athletic. I saw the Gordon comp, also in the same review, the writer still slates Blankenhornto project at 2nd or 3rd, not OF. And he liked Cabbage even more than Blankenhorn. Cabbage is definitely a certified athlete, a couple inches taller. Looking forward to seeing some baseball video, the b-ball video isn't bad. Also, he only just turned 18 a month ago, perhaps a little more upside than Blankenhorn (who turns 19 on 8/3)?
  7. Two LH hitting 3rd baseman drafted back-to-back?
  8. Haven't seen the rest of his hoops game, but he's definitely a rim-destroying, D-I level dunker: http://knoxblogs.com/xtracredit/2015/02/09/ut-baseball-commit-trey-cabbage-breaks-rim-two-handed-dunk/
  9. That's right, I think it's another one of those "unwritten rules" I've heard whispered about periodically on TD...
  10. I like Jay, too. But I fully expect him to be a key man, about 6 years from now, after years of struggle trying to convert to an SP, and then pitching late innings for the Twins.
  11. Except that Vargas was hitting for power in May....
  12. Given the roster jam-up, that only compounds itself when Nolasco and especially Santana reclaim 25-man spots, Graham likely has more value by exercising one of his options and then squirreled away in AAA. (And they likely will still have to do something with Pressly, Thompson, or someone else, besides).
  13. Fear of the pitcher is sometimes the pitcher's greatest weapon. I kind of like the prospect of a loose cannon in the pen, just to keep the opponents' big guns from digging in too deeply against the retinue of soft tossers.
  14. A few corrections and clarifications: Pinto;s HR was his 6th, not 4th. Vargas went 2-4 on the night, with 3 BB, and is now hitting .349/ 1.045 OPS. Both should be on the Twins DH short list. Arcia's 2 hits tonight raised his BA over the century mark, .111 (yipee!), not .067. Alex Meyer was a tale of two pitchers, yet again. For his first 2 IP, he threw 32 pitches, 22 strikes, 10 balls, 4 Ks, 1 hit. meanwhile, over his last 1/3 IP he threw 24 pitches, 12 strikes, 12 balls, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K. I agree though, time to move him up, Molitor should love his "minimizing" skills.
  15. Bautista actually has 11 HRs @ Target Field and then there's: (Almost as) Big Bad Edwin Encarnacion 16 games @ Target: .357/.448/.696/1.144 OPS+ 172 HR 6
  16. Yep, the turnaround on this starting staff is mostly stunning. In the postgame the announcers noted that the Twins SP ERA over the last 13 games is 2.76- nothing close to that kind of streak under Andy- It seemed like, for most of the guys, the longer they pitched for him, the worse they got. All in all, pretty incredible, particularly after what's gone down the last 4 seasons.
  17. A week ago on Sunday, Antony admitted that Sano had not even begun throwing in the OF, and just shagging pre-game flies isn't going to be enough to hit the ground running in the majors as a starting corner OF.
  18. No doubt a reasonable conclusion. It still is strange how far his stock dropped, and with all of this dirty laundry attached to it.... it seems there were also questions about emotional maturity thrown in the mix, as well.
  19. Thanks JC. Yeah, us guys far removed from the situation can only go by the bits and pieces parceled out to project a personality profile. I would guess the general assumption about Gonsalves is: a talented but a bit highstrung, flighty, but competitive personality, with some childhood mistakes overhanging from his past, which taken as a whole, seemed to play at least some role in causing his draft status to drop precipitously. Assuming that at least some of that perception is/was true, I like the Twins taking the gamble, and maybe perhaps, correctly assessing the potential for a good outcome on the maturity issue. Your comments on recent developments tend to confirm that assessment. I'm getting more on board this train, even more than before (although it seems that's likely to soon suck for you guys down in Cedar Rapids....)
  20. I asked earlier JC... is there any indication on how Gonsalves has developed, regarding his own personal maturity issues?
  21. Sounds about right, but I can't recall having a guy that has put up these type of numbers at A ball. Berrios had 19 starts before being promoted, and his numbers were quite pedestrian compared to Gonsalves' incredible production. Perhaps Steve Buhr can answer this question best, but I am also wondering if Gonsalves is demonstrating new personal maturity to go along with his maturity on the mound? It seems that answering that question in the positive may also have a bearing on his timetable.
