  1. Escobar is about 25 or 26. He is not viewed as a long term solution(he could be just not expected). Your line would almost put Santana back in center field and make Escobar the shortshop. That may not be all bad, but just waste another year of development of Twins youngsters that will be the next wave. If Santana does not improve by early to mid 2016, it will be time to move on, but a few weeks is a small sample. Escobar does not have the projected upside of Santana or many of the Twins minor league players coming up. Twins need to find out want they have, so moves can be made to strengthen the ballclub. Santana is one of the group of upcoming Twins that have the type of speed that can change games, Kansas City is a very good example of what speed does with just average on base skills.
  2. Tonkin if I remember correctly was sent down to work on secondary pitches, have no idea if that work has been completed. Good question for TR in an interview though
  3. It's only a week. Good pitching will cure a lot. Bullpen will need to be addressed, just give it a couple of weeks
  4. Looks like a good to very good team. Will be interested to see where they finish.
  5. I expect T Jones will get a chance somewhere else, only because of his velocity. Koch is probably org filler and with all the catchers the Twins have signed the last couple of years, no longer needed.
  6. Was also there yesterday Duensing is now only a LOOGY. Graham did a nice job in the 7th. Hope to see some of you today, will be in the minor league area late morning with my wife and then going to the game.
  7. Some of the offence may be relative. Twins are going to see 78 games against teams with above average starting pitching. That will somewhat dampen the offense. Most of the division clubs (except Detroit) has good to great bullpens. Good pitching will still beat good hitting, so will be interesting to see how the Twins hit, plus regression from Santana and Vargas may make the offense not as good as people expect.
  8. Twins also need to sell tickets. Another 90+ loss season will not help. You go with your best 25 and if things do not work out make the changes. Bullpen could implode either way. Would not want to increase the changes of that.
  9. I have always liked pitchers with stuff. I hope both Graham and Boyer make the team depending on the last two weeks of spring training. Either Stauffer or a starter will be the long man. Will wait and see how Plefrey does in the next two weeks. Both Milone and May have options, so if all things are equal I think Plefrey wins the fifth starter battle and depending on Stauffer, either Milone or May could be the long man, depending on warmup times. Graham will probably get his feet wet in mop roles and Boyer could well wind up the 7th inning man. BTW - I hope this all changes by July and we see the young troops arrive. This bullpen could totally implode and end the Twins season early and like others I would almost like to see Burdi start here and some of the other flame throwers by mid season. Hopefully the Twins will still be competitive by then.
  10. hoping to meet some of you tomorrow. Will be at the park for a good part of the day.
  11. Oliveros has already been sent out. I think it is possible that if all the Twins starters continue to pitch well in the next couple of weeks, there will be a trade at the end of spring training. It is still early only next week will we see the regulars and players with a chance of making the roster play most of the time. When relievers start seeing major league hitters in the late innings things will change. Too much stress over the first two weeks of games.
  12. Range is an important factor. How many balls were reached. Jeter was considered for years a below average fielder, but between his positioning and the Yankee veteran pitching hitting their spots, made him look much better than he was. Positioning and pitching has a lot to do with how fielding looks, so will pass on determination of range. Standard range has been calculated for years by Strato-matic baseball game and you would be suprised how much this affects play.
  13. I have heard that Stauffer starts like this and velocity increases as spring training goes on. Talk about it in 2 weeks if it does not change.
  14. Not surprised. I could see Rosario making it to start the season or a platoon of Schafer and Robinson at that time. If Santana is back in center field, it means all options have failed.
  15. I have more of a feeling the Hunter will be traded to a club that needs him and is willing to give something useful back to the Twins at the end of July or in August. That is presuming the Twins are not contending this year. Twins need to make room toward the end of the year for the prospects arriving and Hunter's role would greatly diminish at that time. This all assumes that Vargas will make the team out of spring training. Do not see that as written in stone.
  16. Twins have many decisions to make. I can understand that Molitor would only want players around who have a chance of making the club. You only have so many inning and Ab's to parcel out.
  17. Also noted that closeness to the big leagues is a factor in his rankings, so most of the Twins are probably slightly lower because of this factor and most of the Twins better prospects are just hitting AA for a full season this year.
  18. A little low on some of the players. One person's opinion. Not going to worry too much about it. Some of Buxton's injury concerns weighed in here along with Sano not playing last year. Pitching is pitching and was surprised Meyer was not lower. Twins have been having injuries on their upper player, it just weighed more heavily here.
  19. I was talking about moving Escobar with a Nolasco(who does not seem to want to be here) not a bottom of the rotation starter. There should be a club by the end of spring training that needs both postitions filled and the Twins need the space for prospects coming up. Do not see Escobar on this team 2-3 years from now and other GM's are not going to pay much at that time for a player they may be able to claim from the wavier wire. I agree we were a 90 loss team with him and we should move any combination that will position the Twins for the future without selling low on the propects.
  20. I am in the same boat, do not see dealing Escobar unless you send him with a starting pitcher for something better. A can't miss prospect or 2 or some bullpen help in the back end and very good. Both are hard to find.
  21. One thought, this is early in spring training and Rosario is seeing suspects/prospects in his at bats. Before we get overhyped, lets see how Rosario does in a couple of weeks when pitchers are closer to ready and the ones who need jobs are using everything they have to get players out. Also many of the suspects will be gone so the only pitchers Rosario will see are those who have a realistic chance of being on a major league roster.
  22. Are we going to compete this year, possibly but not likely. We should be better, but this is the year to see what we have and which of the rookies will be able to contribute down the road. Do not waste time not giving the prospects playing time at the major league level. If Rosario is the best at the end of spring training give him the job. Understand the Twins had to generate some buzz to sell tickets, but still do not like the Hunter signing as it just blocks prospects. Let the prospects weed themselves out at the major league level.
  23. Nice article, I have tickets in Fort Myers for a game in two weeks, so hoping to meet a few people down there.
  24. Unless offer is overwhelming wait until last week of spring training and then make a deal to your favor if Nolasco, Plefrey and Milone have had strong springs. Maximize your return. This could also happen after the first few weeks of the season when other internal options fail.
  25. Draft if not put in place with a full combined draft would start to favor the bad teams. Relationships do influence, but if a major spending team offered enough money across the board, you probably could raise the hue and cry. System will almost certainly be addressed in the next CBA where the minor league and foreign player will not be represented. Holes will need to be closed up front as system could still be gamed by super agents(senting players to Asia for some number of years to circumvent the draft).
