  1. Hard to tell what this ranking means, but the Dodgers have a different priority. Murphy is a coast player with 1+ super good years and very bad defense. These list actually helped the Twins by raising Forsythe's price by making him that close to Dozier, and by rating Kinsler that high would probably cost the Dodgers De Leon, plus absorbing all of Kinsler's contract and a 2 year extension. I agree Zobrist is not a 2nd baseman, so him on the list is an error, but given that after Altuve most of the places are very close, it is just a matter of opinion and should be treated as such.
  2. It is way too early to judge this front office at this time. That is a 2-3 year thing. Improvements to the pitching staff will make a big difference. We shall see where it goes.
  3. According to (I believe it was on ESPN 1500) Levine spoke of some big moves next week, give it some time. Hasty moves are almost always the worst.
  4. Expect some of the arms were added in case Berrios and others were not ready to start the season. Expect Santana, Santiago, Dozier and others to be traded if the Twins get off to a bad start. Front office will not wait as long to pull the trigger this year(hopefully). Being first in the selloff has its advantages.
  5. Grossman still has value here as a platoon player for either Rosario or Kepler against tough lefties. If Front office does not add relief pitching could see a number of the close arms, Burdi, Hildenberger, Reed, or evan Duffey moved to the pen in this year.
  6. Problem with De Leon is that if he has a 15% chance of being a #2 pitcher, he has a 25% chance of being a bust. That is why the Twins need the extra value in this trade. I do not know the scouting reports, but for all I know is that his swing and miss pitch almost always ends up of the the zone, major league hitters will find this out and lay off his out pitch. Too many variables without a second major piece. Friedman also has a rep for fleecing other teams, so it is right to ask for extra value.
  7. Our new evaluators have been busy. Probably feel most of them would end up released at some point this year anyway. Would be interested in finding out which ones were the real surprises Seth(in your mind)
  8. I still feel that Dozier will be traded, injuries do happen in spring training and players do not pan out in the early going. Neil Walker may not come back from his injury, Dodgers 2B players may stink up the joint. If offer was lowball, and it seems like many writers feel it was, than it is possible the Twins could get a better offer if something goes wrong with a contender early in the year. Twins have a lot of starting pitcher talent in the minor leagues, just not top end except for Romero and possibly Jay. Otherwise would like to see them sign some relievers to take the pressure off the starting pitching and shorten the game by having a great to very good bullpen.
  9. My guess is that the Dodgers wait. It could be that by trading Smily that they opened a pitching spot for a trade with the Dodgers and Freidman knows the Rays system better than the Twins. My guess is that is the direction they go.
  10. I think English will start at Ft. Myers and without improvement will likely be only filler or released at some point. Rest were interesting and will be good to follow for how they do at higher levels. I would push Cederoth only based on draft round and the fact he needs to get moving. Most of these might be slower due to the origination wanting them to have fastball control more than results.
  11. Do not see the love lost here. Would expect Park and Mauer to platoon with Vargas maybe making the club as a RH first baseman and parttime DH. Depends on a Dozier trade on how this shakes out.
  12. This could be as a result of the paper Neil Allen wrote on fastball control. It could be most of the better prospects will be held back a year to work on it. Therefore you need filler until the advance starts again.
  13. Wrong, Trevor is a much better fielder. Valencia to me is a stone statue.
  14. We will never know what the offer was or if when the Dodgers realized they were the only serious bidder they backed off of their original offer. As for most of you, feeling was on national channels offer from the Dodgers was light. Unless the Dodgers are able to make a deal for another second baseman(and both the Tigers and the Rays want Bellinger), they may well come back towards the end of spring training. Bottom line Twins probably wanted an overpay and the Dodgers definitely wanted an underpay. Result was no deal. My guess is the Dodgers probably backed off on the offer or Twins front office wasted a lot of time on a deal that was not really that close.
  15. Don't think they care, but Dodgers have roster management issues. Do not know how many options De Leon has left, but my guess is 1. Dodgers have many other pitching prospects that will require roster spots probably some of them at the end of the year(though if Ryu does not recover, he could be injury waived if needed(again not sure how this works)). Dodgers will probably have to create 40 man or 25 man roster space at the end of spring training. That could be painful. Do not know how waivers work(if by league or record at the point), but Dodgers may have to make one of those multiple player deals for something or just lose some decent players at the end of spring training. Twins should be posed to take advantage of helping them out. Maybe it will be better to wait.
  16. You still have Escobar and if you don't like that you have Vielma, he may not hit, but he sure can field. Do not see an issue here. Gordon may surprise us and make the Twins out of spring training. Twins has Gonsalves, Stewart, Jay at AA, those are all prospects, but the large number that pitched some for the Twins. Do not believe the starting staff will be worse. If you can add good prospects to this pool fine, but don't buy the belief you have to deal to make a deal. If we stay pat, would like to add 2 reasonable bullpen arms to help out with the transition. Holland might be the best, but he will be expensive and doubt he would sign here. Feliz could be another option, or some of the AAA pitchers could turn out OK. Until you play them in Minnesota, you will not know what you have. All this and a high upside starter in the draft, you could still be fine.
  17. Twins have many starters who have already reached AA. While I believe we should trade Dozier, we have been taken before when the Dodger head was at TB, so I agree on caution is needed. Without knowing the offer are any of the players offered better than what the Twins had at AA ball this past season. Maybe more of a change in philosophy is needed in teaching pitching here then to give our best asset away for suspects. Coast writers are great at using the media and their contacts to build up prospects in their clubs farm systems to help with this type of trade. I believe that F/V are justified in looking for multiple tickets as many of the prospects(especially pitchers) do not work out. The fact that De Leon is being offered shows what the Dodger brass thinks of him.
  18. TB does not need pitching. Their needs begins and ends with Bellinger. End of discussion for the Dodgers.
  19. It was reported on mlbtraderumors that Brandon Phillips invoked his no trade clause against the Braves in November. Braves are looking for a one or two year player at reasonable price. No reason the Braves might not circle back on Dozier.
  20. Just your game of chicken, though I still somewhat believe the offer is closer to what DaveW claims it is, than what national media is saying. Dodgers have a huge hole at 2B. They would like to fill it cheap, is not going to happen and it may not be Dozier, but there is more pressure on the Dodgers than on the Twins to make it happen. Giants have improved, as have some other clubs. Don't forget that if Dodgers fall behind early and have issues with LHP that the pressure will be intense and prices will go very high for any fix. My guess is the Dodgers make a move before spring training, they are just waiting for the prices to drop.
  21. Given what I see now, I would not be surprised to see one of the relivers at AA make the Twins(Burdi, Melenkoas, or the other one that I can't spell). Only other surprise might be if Zake Granite makes the ballclub(do not expect this, but not out the possibilites).
  22. If the Dodgers trade us both De Leon and Steward they are giving both of their near MLB ready pitchers. That is their depth. They will not send both in the same deal for a very good not great player
  23. Would rather have Greg Holland on a 2 year deal, but Feliz would be a second option. Twins need some veterans in the bullpen who can hold leads and close games. As stated above, It is probably worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 wins just to close games we were leading into the 7th inning last year.
  24. Still want prospects, But Dodger bosses do not like trading propects. This may take until just before spring training to clarify the positions. 2B(right handed hitter) is still the Dodgers biggest need and options here for them are not good.
  25. Twins still have some power in the negotiations, Dodgers do not have a second option that will probably work for them. Rays need a 1B player(read Bellinger) and Tigers would take lesser prospects, but Kinsler has no trade power and wants an expensive extension to move. Neither of these would in my mind be palatable to the Dodgers, unless it was message sent to Twins front office from many clubs to make bad deals or not be able to deal. Dodgers cannot use a left handed hitting 2B, to much ability to throw lefties from the pen and force platoon changes and then back again. It just may take more time, or the Dodgers will wait until before spring training to see if prices come down.
