  1. Say no to Jimenez. Too much risk, not enough reward. Maybe the right pitching coach could straighten him out, his best place may be Pittsburg
  2. Think the Twins need to find out what Meyer, May and Berrios can do this year before deciding to give up prospects or spend more money on starting pitching. It will only delay the process if we keep putting back of rotation types in front of them.
  3. Glenn did very well in Rochester, considering what he was given and the up and down movement of players. This could be a start for helping with the players who are coming up from Rochester. Dougie is probably going to be in AA, so either the AA manager moves to AAA or Twins go outside the organization for the AAA manager. That would probably be a good thing. All of you are correct, pitching coach will probably be last.
  4. I would like to see Dozier continue to do better. That being said would consider him the most tradable Twin that could bring back a high return(starting pitchers who are major league ready)(or an outfielder that would help). Neither of these may be necessary if some of the Twins prospects come through. I see Dozier as more of a Brandon Phillips type(Brandon is the poster child for Cincinnati's budget crunch). I believe Brian Dozier is what we can see a very good fielding secondbaseman who hits for some power and draws some walks, but will never be a .275 hitter. Hope I am wrong.
  5. As a 4th outfielder should be fine. Maybe he improves to the surprise of us all.
  6. Like most of the names on this list. Would be worth a look for the right price. Can never have enough starting pitching. Would not mind more than one. No Masterson, but the rest might be worth a look.
  7. Hope it works out well. Fans will have to be patient as do not see a big improvement coming this year.
  8. I agree you cannot buy an ace. You have to develop them and the Twins need to find out in the next two years which of their young pitchers are or could be one. Pitching coach will have to know how to help the young pitchers as his will be the most important job on this team.
  9. Depends on who Molitor has for coaches. That will be more important than his being named manager
  10. Getting a player doing well his bonus money is good for the organization. Also we were playing contenders most of September and the contending clubs deserve to have the non contenders give there best. Great article, shows there is hope for the future at this position.
  11. Very good group of players. May need to package or move some talent from here for front line pitching. Great article. Looking forward to see what Michael, Polanco, Gordon and Goodrum do next year
  12. Good for them. Was hoping Rosario would also be picked given his stats. Any reason why he was not?
  13. like the review, feel much the same way you do. Feel the Duensing should be traded as would hate to see him give away for nothing. Fien will be back, hopefully in more of a seventh inning role. Bullpen needs a makeover and the young pitchers(Burdi, Reed, and others need to be given their chances.
  14. he would only block pitchers we should be looking at this year. At this time he is a number 3 or 4 starter and Twins have plenty of those types
  15. Non of them interest me. Now trading for one, that is a different matter. Dozier or Perkins or a combination of both are still the way to bring back a big time outfielder. Friedman going to the Dodgers will hurt, because that is one of the teams I thought we might get an advantage deal done with
  16. This year should be about finding out what the Twins have. Spending money just to spend is silly. Adding a couple of high risk , high reward, low pay players should be part of the plan. We should have the money to spend for some mid tier players, just by not offering contracts or arbitration to a few marginal pitchers. We shall see after the team meetings what will happen
  17. Adding payroll for the sake of payroll will not produce results. Another free agent pitcher will just block the kids for a couple of more wins a year. Next year should be a sort out the young players and let them take their lumps. By 2017 you will know what you need to buy in FA and will have the player base to support it. I am not a fan of Duensing and losing him and Burton would not bother me. Swarzak can have a case made for either way. The rookies need to be up here and we find out if they can make it or not. Payroll next year is not an issue. Remember spending others people's money is always very easy.
  18. I hope they keep Bruno with the new manager. He seemed to be making headway with the young hitters. I see the net is wider this time, maybe that will help.
  19. Ryan had to fix the mess Smith left. Bill Smith's request was to spend more money to fix the problem he created. It is easy to spend someone else's money. 1. Even if you offer the money the players have to take it and they have choices, getting a top starting pitcher is no sure thing. 2. We do not know what is asked for in trade, if you read some other east coast boards, 2-3 of their 5-10 prospects should be able to spring a top player to them, this is just not true. 3. You have to sign good FA's to complement the minor league system, this was Kansas City's big issue over the last 30 years, good minor league system, but the holes where not addressed with FA signings. 4. The judgment on Terry Ryan's second term will come in how fast the Twins can turn this around and I am guessing next year will be only slightly better, but we should start seeing the progress( more like 1999-2000) than the past few year. 5. You can never have too much pitching, Anderson should have been gone a few years ago, that Pittsburg is fixing some of the Twins pitching that could not be fixed here was an embarrassment. 6. Will see how this offseason goes, Ryan has done a good job of fixing the base(Escobar, Santana, Shaffer, Vargas, Arica, May, Hughes). Outside of possibly Santana and Hughes this now looks like the bottom end of a good major league club. What is filled in above it will determine the final result.
  20. I believe Gardy will be back, unless 1 of 2 unexpected things happen. 1. Pohlad tells Ryan to fire Gardy and Ryan resigns then Gardy is fired 2. Ryan tells Gardy Andy is gone and Gardy resigns. Otherwise Gardy will be back.
  21. would rather trade for a pitcher or an outfielder rather than buy one, both Cinni and LAD are clubs that we could trade with. Not saying there could not be others.
  22. I agree that Dozier is probably not going anywhere, I would still sell high( It would be the only way to bring a starting outfielder or a better pitcher to the Twins). Still look at Brandon Phillips as what Dozier is likely to become in his 30's (a way overpriced good fielding second baseman with some pop) Cincinnati can almost not give him away and am afraid the Twins would have to overpay to keep Dozier at a time when they are 2 years or less away from having to spend big money to keep there superstars(who we all hope will develop)
  23. I think both Duensing and Shafer will be left on the 40 man. I do not see Gilmartin being added unless you let Milone go. I saw 10 on Aaron's list I would have no problem in them not being here to start next year, Achter, Bernier, Burton(who will have his option declined), collobella, Darnell, Herrmann, Johnson, Pino, Thompson, and one of (Pelfrey, Nunez, Swarzak). Depends on how many other than the top 4 the Twins have to add,Adam, Guerra, T Jones. One or two of the other underlined above are possible, but most look too far away(were in high A or lower for me). Will admit to not knowing enough about a couple of them to make a judgement. Also depends if the Twins can package some players together to improve the pitching staff or find a starting outfielder for next year.
  24. Rays and Reds seem to be the 2 clubs, along with the Dodgers who can develop pitching. Twins seem to be worse than most. Some of this has been signability in the 1990's when big market clubs and agents could game the system. Under the new CBA most of that has changed and will see how many of the 7 - 10 decent starters the Twins now have in their system will make it. My best guess is 2-3.
  25. Agree with some of the above, but some is internal motivation and some is having buttons pushed. Some of the rest is people handling skills. Being told one thing and then doing it to be thrown under the bus to the media is other. Pitching has been bad, but not getting as much as you can out of it and having a few guys who were supposed to be upper end succeed very well elsewhere is another. Andy has to go for this organization to have any credibility for holding people accountable. Bill Smith did not do a good job, but listened to Gardy more than he should have and was not capable of making his own evalutions. That was a major reason the Twins are were they are today. But Gardy got off free for pushing Smith to make the wrong moves. I know Bill Smith should have known better, but there is a lack of accountability here.
