    At least Capps was good for a year or Sox Murphy for Hicks is a guy who won't do anything in the majors for a guy who has a 1.100 OPS at age 28

    Actually I recall it being somewhat common knowledge within the org that when he was "demoted" to special assistant to Ryan at that point, Smith was left in charge of the draft for that transition year. Ryan was the "interim" GM at that point.

    I honestly don't understand how people don't like Perkins. The guy is a class act, is a Minnesota born and bred guy, got mismanaged by the team, put his head back down, worked his ass off and became one of the best relief pitchers in a franchise that has had a lot of good ones. I admire his resolve and effort to try to come back and help out this club, that is very commendable, the guy could easily just sit out the year and no one would blame him. I hope he makes it back some day, but if not, I am glad he was able to make a healthy living for his efforts (30+ million in his career) I hope he stays close or even with the organization when his playing days are done. Hopefully though, he somehow finds a way to have another couple years of major league pitching. Good luck to Glenn 100% whether for the Twins or another team. I will always be a fan.

    It was a disaster starting Bradford for 15 games last year. He was terrible. Should have traded for Glennon. Or should have drafted Dak in the 3rd round like I wanted them/was very vocal about doing. Oh well, Dave is right, the stupid Vikings are wrong. Such goes life.

    Bill Smith got a really really raw deal during his stint as Minnesota GM, however without him, the present and future would be much worse off more than likely. Thank you Mr Smith for the following: -Signing Miguel Sano (Most money ever spent by the Twins at the time) -Signing Max Kepler (Genius move to look to Germany for talent) -Signing Jorge Polanco (Gave him a good chunk of cash) -Drafting Jose Berrios -Drafting Byron Buxton (So so so so smart to go BPA instead of drafting for need: Gausman, Zunino, Appel etc) Also it should be noted that Bill Smith also drafted Aaron Hicks, who has turned into one of the better OF in all of baseball thus far this season. There also were other great great great INTL signings by Bill. Hopefully when this team reaches the promise land they will bring back Bill Smith to celebrate somewhat.

    What's crazy is that Hicks is actually getting very UNLUCKY at the plate so far! Only a .263 BABIP If that normalizes his OPS goes from 1.059 to 1.105. Wow! Again I will post this again, how sexy would this top of the lineup look right about now: 1. Aaron Hicks LF 2. Max Kepler 1B 3. Miguel Sano 3B 4. Brian Dozier 2B 5. Grossman/Mauer DH 6. Rosario/Mauer RF/1B 7. Polanco SS 8. Castro C 9. Buxton CF (Note: Kepler in lineup nearly every day, Mauer/Rosario split some time---Rosario to bench, Kepler to RF in that scenario) That's an Pennant contending team.

    - Hicks has 5 HR so far, on pace to hit 20 by August. -.419 OBP, but not a whole lot of SB chances as often times he is hitting XBH or home runs! lol -Defense is great. CF and LF. -Hicks has a 1.257 OPS against righties, and 4 HR (aka not a fluke!) -If this is his decline, sign me up for several more years of decline!

    Gibson has been terrible the last 2.5 years, he is 30 (i think) it's time to just stop wasting time and effort on the problem, bring up some youngsters and see if they will stick. Do Gibson a favor and cut him, he will certainly land somewhere (NL) and maybe on a contending team as well. No need for him on a rebuilding club, and not worth the arb number he will command next year anyways.

    Hot Sports Opinion: Star Wars is ok, but highly over-rated. Especially episodes: 1,2,3,6,7. New Hope and Emperor are the only two worth a re-watch, ever. Dot Com. Jedi could have been good if it weren't for the stupid ass ewoks and their stupid ass stupid problems that take up 70% of the movie.

    Ellsbury and Gardner are both playing decent so far, but Hicks is going to start eating into their playing time more and more. (Judge is a freaking stud) What is most encouraging about Hicks is that he is MASHING RHP and LHP alike. I think Hicks ultimately is going to be starting 80% of the games for the Yankees in CF by June 15th. Man, that Yankee team as a whole looks great, Cashman takes a lot of heat, but that guy knew how to rebuild and knew how to rebuild quickly.

    Yeah, this points out another flaw in WAR, it takes away a bunch (and punishes) Rice because he was a DH? Yeah, Rice wasn't great in the field, but he was an elite hitter, you don't need to be an all around perfect player in every to make the hall of fame. If you say Rice doesn't deserve it because of his fielding, then what stops someone from saying that Ozzie Smith shouldn't be in the hall of fame because he hit like Nick Punto? Maybe Nolan Ryan doesn't deserve to get in, yeah he was really awesome at punching Robin Ventura, striking out a lot of guys and throwing lots of no hitters, but he also has the most walks, wild pitches and is probably the worst fielding pitcher of all time as well! Flaws! Flaws! Rice is without a doubt a bonafide hall of famer. Stupid "WAR" calculations be damned.

    What's also dumb is that if Rice would have stuck around for another 3.5 years at the end of his career, played mediorce (like a lot of revered players did) but gotten to the magical 3,000 hit number, he would have been a first ballot guy. That 12 year prime of his is certainly more than enough to earn his spot in the hall of fame. Black ink Gray Ink Hall of fame standards all say so as well.

    I don't get all the hand wringing over Jim Rice being in the hall of fame. The dude absolutely mashed. 8x All Star MVP The 12 seasons from 75 (22 YO) to 86 (33 YO) he was one of the best hitters in the game with a .876 OPS, 350 HR, 8 all star game appearances, 5 times in the top 5 of MVP voting and of course the MVP. That certainly is hall of fame worthy. He only had 2 less WAR then Puckett as well (who was first ballot HOF)

    To be fair, Judge has been an absolute treat to watch, and thus far, not only is the sure thing leader for ROY, but is one of the best 5 players thus far in the AL. Still, give me Sano, this guy has been seeing, hitting, mashing balls like no-one I have ever witnessed in a Twins uniform.

    Hicks had himself a solid game again tonight: Hit another BOMB (5th of season) 2-5, 2 RBI, 1R OPS back over 1.100 Better clear room on that Credit Card Glunn! I like my stakes Wagyu and my old fashioned's top shelf'd!

    Also the fact that bWAR and fWAR are often times so so different sort of proves my point about the vast shortcomings of advanced metric fielding. Maybe when field f/x happens I will take it more seriously.
