    I totally missed this thread and started something similar but more on the lighter side. It leads me to a question tho. If a team picks a player via rule 5 and then the player gets injured, can they stash them on the disabled list until healthy and then activate them as normal? Just curious.

    I had a little time to kill so I started a shallow dive into possible Rule 5 players the Twins could add that would address a need for the ‘24 season. My first find is the #20 prospect from Pittsburgh, OF Matt Gorski. He has power and speed but has had injury issues. He seems perfect for us. If you have time and want to chime in on who you think would be a good rule 5 pick up next week, here is an opportunity for you to play FO for a day!

    We don’t know everything the FO does but my inclination is that we aren't going outside the org to deal with 1B issues. Its gonna get fixed internally or at least attempted to be fixed. Just doing the Farmer for Carlson kills 2 birds with one stone. Finding the right deal for pitching is going to be tough. I would imagine it will take some creativity cause it sure seems like a FA pitcher is out of the question.

    Or the pick could be HOF. Either way, we will be talking about it for years.

    Its 2 guys coming back from TJ. maeda pitched 104 this year and had some early issues that he got reset. Its possible both him and Paddack each get to 150 but I expect 100+…. It’s a reasonable expectation. 150+ is a stretch but it’s possible. If Maeda has a 3.9 era 1.13 whip and throws 147 innings for Detroit, is he worth $12M in ‘24? Edit…. In addition, Jordan Montgomery pitched 188.2 innings in ‘23. The most of his career. Had a 3.20 era and 1.19 whip. 10wins/11 losses. He is 30 and he is looking at $25M/yr or more on a 4-6 year deal. He isn’t known as an Iron man but he is gonna get his payday.

    He just proved in ‘23 that he can still pitch to his career averages. Paying him $13M/yr is about half as we would pay a #1 SP. I fail to see the risk because 2 years removed from TJ, he will probably improve his stats and durability.

    Just 100+ per year for $13M . Its not overly expensive if he has 2 Good years. He is also the kind if guy that can pitch 5 innings in a playoff game and keep the score low. Thats hard to find. I expect Paddack to also pitch 100+ innings in ‘24. That would have only required us to find a viable option for another 100 innings which I would hope could be covered by Varland/Headrick.

    Not Signing Maeda for 2 yr 26M was just dumb. He has a shiny new arm and he knows how to pitch. We could have gotten 200+ innings in ‘24/25 out of him. Congrats to Gray on his overpay day. Thanks for the draft pick.

    I’d bet they all stay and pitch for the twins at some point unless traded before ST. A DFA will only happen if they suck really bad and then said sucky pitcher will likely clear waivers. At worst, the Saints will have somewhat solid hurlers.

    Or he would have turned it down and Detroit would have paid him more. I’d take him at 20.3M ….its not my $$$$

    If C4 had 15 less GDP and 30 more hits, he would have been right in line with his career averages. He played hurt most of the season so I would expect he will have much better stats in ‘24 when healthy. I got no problem paying $33M for the best C4.

    I guess I just considered him a #3 but I see your point. Miami still seems to be stacked with SPs. I just hope that whoever we actually get to fill Grays spot is successful and here for years.

    Wallner being the hometown kid with huge potential isn't going to get traded early in his career. Raya is the bulldog that our FO is betting on so he is not going anywhere. I can see SWR and maybe Headrick packaged for Sandoval, they seem to be close to MLB but not exactly in the plans to be fulltimers in ‘24. That would also open up a 40man spot.

    The blackburn deal is interesting because what do you do with him until someone needs to skip a start? and honestly do we need the #29 or 31 prospect?

    Its almost like Kep and Julien went to BP traded some knowledge. and like the game H.O.R.S.E Kep had to change it up to keep up. I love the look on pitchers faces when that oppotaco gets caught in the first couple rows of left field. So deflating 😆

    I love the idea of some minor league house cleaning if it brings an above average defensive CF on the cheaper end. MAT was nice to have but lets try something similar but different.

    Right! Adjustments, corrections, tweaks, stuff changing in his swing. Didn’t he hit a couple oppotaco’s after the all star break? He almost never goes opposite field with that kind of power. Something precipitated the change. I don’t think its a coincidence that his worst years of production were during the exaggerated shifts.

    I bet if you paid Maeda enough $$$ he wouldn’t mind pitching out of the BP. We need 6-7 SP anyhow so I don’t see any SP being traded.

    Seems like such a fine line between being good and bad at the craft of hitting MLB pitchers. I always wondered if the defensive shift got into his head and it took a few months to shake it out.
