  1. Rating pitchers is hard to do. I think, all in all, López is the Twins' #1 starter, although it is close. The ERA is high, but the underlying numbers are better.
  2. Because he owns a first baseman's mitt and Alex Krilloff can't swing a bat right now.
  3. I probably should have edited my original post. The Twins' official site did update Gordon's status yesterday, pretty much what was written by cbssports.com. It looks like a September 1 activation to me, unless injuries open a spot on the roster earlier.
  4. The news yesterday that both Alex Kirilloff and Brock Stewart underwent MRIs brings back flashbacks of last year to me. Kirilloff wasn’t expected to go the IL and then was thought to be on the list for the minimum 10 days. Now it looks like a much longer duration on the list with the possibility that things might be even more serious. Most expected Stewart back by now and his arm injury is lingering. The prognosis for others on the Il range from pretty positive (Lewis) to radio silence (Miranda, Alcalá, Gordon). How many of these guys will see the field this year?
  5. Two K C solo homers and a Twin being thrown out at the plate.
  6. They need to fine-tune the plate-blocking rule.
  7. A good gamble with the #8 hitter due up.
  8. I'm encouraged by Wallner's major league at-bats this year, but I'm not altogether sure that that he won't slump to Gallo (or at least Larnach) levels. I am sure that Wallner is an awkward outfielder at this stage and that Kepler would make defensive plays that Wallner cannot. I don't see any club that is trying to make the postseason counting on a Wallner type down the stretch, especially a team with as inconsistent of an offense as the Twins possess.
  9. Here's my opinion(s): 1) Gallo would bring back nothing of value. The choice is whether to keep him on the team or DFA him. I say DFA. 2) Kepler has value, but he is probably worth more to the Twins than any other team, so he stays. The big question that will probably be determined by August and September production, is whether the Twins will pick up his option for 2024. 3) Wallner is less than a year younger than Larnach and has only 127 plate appearances in the majors, but he shows more upside (particularly power) than Larnach. 4) Larnach has nearly 700 major league plate appearances and has failed to establish himself as a major league regular. He's shown enough to interest other teams, particularly rebuilding teams, and is the logical choice to be traded for someone who can help the club this year. If I'm the Twins FO, I would DFA Gallo (swing and a miss on that signing), trade Larnach for the best relief pitcher or RH hitting outfielder they can find and put Byron Buxton on the IL.
  10. With Polanco being activated while the Twins are in Missouri, and with two off days in the next week or so, it might be a perfect time to go with twelve pitchers.
  11. I am not so optimistic that Trevor Larnach will succeed as a major league player. The strikeouts are a problem and the power production thus far has been decidedly mediocre. He has shown flashes and he is still only 26, but to me that is where a guy moves out of the prospect category to something else. He certainly hasn't established himself as a major league regular. I wouldn't rule out Trevor becoming a solid regular, but I agree that now is the time to move him if they get a suitable return.
  12. Winder pitched yesterday and finally stopped the bleeding after Seattle scored in the first six innings. It looks like he is no longer being considered as a starter, but is able to pitch multiple innings. He's been hounded by arm injuries the last two years (shoulder impingement) and hasn't been very effective either at Minnesota and St. Paul. I don't think he is even in the conversation for a starting spot next year. I do think there's a chance that Winder can be an important bullpen piece next year. I doubt he is put in high leverage situations for the balance of this year. Do the Twins "desperately need a long-relief arm"? Sands has been on the active roster for a majority of the season and he hasn't been in any high-leverage spots in that time. When Sands wasn't on the roster, it was Headrick and again not many opportunites and no high-leverage work. The 13th pitcher on the Twins has almost completely been wasted.
  13. Day off for Kirilloff? I know he's played almost every day, but get nervous when he's not in the lineup against a right hander.
  14. Weird start for the hitters. 5-5 with ball in play and 6 (!) K's.
  15. I’ll confess that I’m biased in favor of lefty first basemen (since at least Keith Hernandez), but AK just looks smooth over there and he’s a much langer (better) target than Arraez or Solano.
  16. Kirby’s ERA vs. the Twins went from 0.00 to 4.50 in one inning.
  17. Ambush of Kirby complete. Wallner goes deep!!!
  18. Nice play AK. No one likes Kirilloff's defense this year. I've always thought he was the best option the Twins had over there. Does anyone agree that he has been a bottom quartile defender at first?
  19. Three wild cards, correct? That would be Tampa Bay, Houston and Toronto. Red Sox are tied for “last one out”.
  20. Signed! Source: mlbtraderumors.com https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/07/twins-sign-first-rounder-walker-jenkins.html
