    If he's healthy, Correa should rebound. He's been a good hitter for too long to forget how to hit and he'll play 90% of 2024 as a 29 year old. If C-4 comes down with a disabling injury, the Twins have Brooks Lee ready to take his place. That's a good situation to be in. With both Gray and Maeda off the board, the Twins may have to make a trade to get another starting pitcher. Finding another Sonny Gray would be the goal.

    I think the front office has taught us to wait until the off season is over before evaluating the results. Hopefully there will be some resolution of the TV deal sometime this winter. When there is some certainty of that revenue, the Twins might open up their spending a bit.

    Paddack had is TJ surgery in April of '22, so he is closer to two years past TJ. He has an injury history, of course, and could well end up on the injured list in the coming season, but so too could Ober, Ryan and López. I would consider López as an ace, every bit as much as Gray and maybe more so.

    I don't think it is fair to view the front office as addicted to home runs. Home runs are valuable and power can cover over other faults. The Twins might value HR power higher than you or I, but they managed to have a very good pitching staff this past year and improved in stealing bases and using "small ball". By and large, you can't have it all. If you rely on the home run ball, most likely there will be strikeouts and more unproductive at-bats. On the other hand, it takes a lot of singles to score 5-6 runs, even with productive outs.

    i like Maeda well enough and would like to see him return to the Twins. It seems that the team will have to step up if they want to keep him.

    I’d like to see Dylan Carlson manning center or left for the Twins. His L-R splits show him as a better hitter vs. LH pitching and he’s a capable center fielder. Acquiring a center fielder who makes less than MAT made without clearing too many prospects is a tough needle to thread. If the Twins can do so, it will clear some salary to acquire starting pitching help.

    Farmer, Lewis and Castro are all capable of playing average major league shortstop. It will be interesting to see who relieves Correa when he has a day off. It will be interesting to see who covers for short-term absences. I think they will keep Lewis at third base and won't move him to short for the short term.

    I do think Polanco has aged beyond his 30 years. He isn’t as quick or fast as he was five years ago and it’s noticeable. He’s adjusted and moved down the spectrum of defensive positions and first base would be the next step. I’ve said before that he is an “old 30” (IMHO) and that along with the injuries is why I would think a trade is acceptable

    I'd rather see Polanco at first base than third base, even if he's never played there before. That said, I'd prefer Jorge at second and Julien at first if both guys are filling a slot on the right side of the infield. Injuries are going to happen and having flexibility makes good sense. Having Polanco available to help out at first base is a good move, if he continues with the Twins.

    Well, if the overpriced veteran obtained is on the last year of a contract, that would be a plus. Also, if the unnamed overpriced veteran filled a need (right handed corner outfield, first base, or less likely center field) that would be helpful.

    Twins pitchers sang Vázquez' praises during the season. I'm sure there is a little talking out of both sides of their mouths when discussing outings, but generally both receivers seemed to get along well with the pitching staff. The hitting might be a concern. Vázquez is 33, sometimes a steep dropoff can occur in the mid-thirties, but other guys go on and on. A mitt-first receiver can be found for a lot less money, if Jeffers is the primary catcher (maybe starting 100 games), but I think there is a risk involved in assuming health for catchers. The third catcher usually sees a lot of action on most clubs.

    I like the idea of having two good defensive catchers. Having Vázquez available is prudent and wise unless they can come up with a replacement. There are a number of "mitt-first" catchers available who could replace Vázquez behind the plate and would be expected to hit as well as Vázquez did last year.

    That one or two players could have/should have been Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton. Correa, in his age 28 year put up a disappointing 1.4 WAR and Buxton, in his age 29 year, had a WAR of 0.8. Expecting near peak from each due to their prime ages would have netted something like 7 WAR and made a decent lineup near elite. No team can expect all key players to be healthy, but besides the disappointments of Correa and Buxton, Lewis missed over 100 games, Kirilloff more than 70 and Polanco only played in 80 games, but if Buxton and Correa could have contributed average production for peak years, they probably get a #2 seed and maybe a trip to the World Series. I would say that the way Texas played in the postseason, they would have been a tough out for any team, but the Twins did handle them just weeks earlier.

    Agree, but I do think the theme here is that with the right trade, value can be derived by trading minor leaguers for major league players.

    Kyle Gibson is going to St. Louis (1 year deal). I believe Kyle has Missouri connections. Kind of surprised he only got a one-year contract.

    Lopez will make more than the entire Twins bullpen (if they don’t add anyone).

    Isn't the projection that the Twins will have large increases (López, player entering arb years) in 2025? They will still have the Buxton and Correa contracts, which take up about 40% of payroll right now. I'm not sure if they can do a contract for either Woodruff or Mahle as they did for Pineda and Paddack.

    18 months difference in age. Not exactly "2-3 years". I have argued that Willi's 2023 was significantly better than Gordon's 2022.

    I think they will try to leave a spot for a Rule V guy. Last year they could have carried a pitcher instead of the the Sands/Winder/Headrick triumvirate.

    Well, they might sign three players before the Rule V draft and then they'd only have one space to claim a Rule V player.

    Well, I'm surprised. I wasn't aware that Moran would require TJ surgery, so it then becomes an easy decision to not offer him a contract, Pulling the plug on Henriquez is a bit surprising given his age, but I guess the front office doesn't see a way for him to contribute.

    A comment about the bullpen--I don't think there is any other team (Athletics and Rockies included) that is projected to spend less money on their bullpen. The Twins have spent very little on free agent bullpen help and when they've acquired someone (Colomé, Addison Reed, Dyson, López, year one of Pagán) the results have been less that stellar.

    Newman was a capable shortstop. Gordon is not.
