  1. The Twins did exactly what many suggested they do—shut down Buxton and try to get his knee right (as right as possible) and it didn’t work. After waiting a month, Buxton wasn’t able to last a full rehab game in center field. I don’t think the odds are very good at all that he’ll ever be able to play in the field more than occasionally and with all the time away, I doubt Byron would be a premium defender. Buxton got a good contract and it’s very doubtful that he’ll get many, if any, incentives included. The Twins are on the hook for the contract.
  2. Probably needs to be a new thread about perspective for this year and what lies ahead in the next. I’ll say this—just too little contact, the strikeouts were too much to overcome too often. Caleb Thielbar wasn’t reliable in late September and October and the Twins went to that well too often. López. Paddack, Ryan, Ober, Varland is a nice rotation, but they probably need one or two more starters and I think Maeda is more likely to return than Gray.
  3. The Astros have started Duhon, McCormick and Maldonado. Not exactly future HOFers. Yeah, I wouldn't prefer to start Solano and probably Castro, but they are major leaguers and both have had good seasons.
  4. Varland, Jax and Duran for the last three innings?
  5. I can't see any manager doing that, but particularly not Baldelli.
  6. Maybe I’m greedy, but I would have liked 2-0 with one out so much more.
  7. Yesterday’s highlight was the ceremonial first pitch. I hope today’s highlight is a Duran K in the top of the ninth.
  8. mlbtraderumors.com is reporting that Kirilloff could no longer swing due to the ongoing shoulder injury. I don’t know if this is true or not, but Rocco did pinch hit Solano in the sixth inning vs. a RH pitcher. I thought AK took two good rips his first time up and then looked bad on an off speed pitch. This also is a continuation of a trend with Kirilloff. In ‘22, he started slowly and then said that his wrist had been bothering him all along. He went through a bad stretch just after being named Player of the Week and went on IL for his shoulder. Now, after an 0-9 postseason, he’s out from a recurrence of the shoulder injury. It could be he can’t play with a level of pain that others can power through. Maybe he doesn’t heal fast, I don’t know, but it is disappointing.
  9. Many misspell Mr. Kirilloff’s name. Even more seem stuck on how to spell Paddack.
  10. I noticed AK was wearing a brace on his right hand/arm. I think that is the same side as his wrist that was operated on. It has been reported that he has continuing treatment for both his wrist and shoulder. I’ve thought all along Kirilloff could be a difference maker, but he’s not been the elite hitter I have hoped he would be.
  11. AL East finished 0-7, with Texas doing most of that damage 5-0). I guess not many would have predicted that.
  12. In 2023, Buxton has a .627 OPS against lefties. That isn't the batting mark of a "lefty masher". In those times when he's been locked in and healthy, it doesn't matter which hand the pitcher throws with.
  13. After two games in all the ALDS series, the higher seeds are in trouble. Texas and Arizona have opened 2-0 leads going back to their home ballparks, while the Twins and Phillies are both 1-1 in their series against Houston and Atlanta respectively. It is entirely possible that all four lower seeds could lock up trips to the league championship series. I am particularly surprised by Arizona and Texas. Neither team charged into the playoffs, but both seem to have found their best selves at just the right time. If all the lower seeds win their series, the Twins would have a 10-3 record against the remaining participants, having won the season series against all three other remaining teams. Of course, no one has advanced yet, so we shouldn't be counting our chickens before they're hatched.
  14. I think it’s pretty close to magical thinking to expect Buxton to contribute this year on the field. He’s been dealing with a bum wheel for over a year—how can we expect for it to resolve now? Maybe, maybe, he can be rostered and perhaps supply a key hit in a pinch-hitting role (something he has never done in my recollection), but the time is gone (IMHO) to get him back for regular play for the last round or two of postseason.
  15. Every year is a new challenge, but López’ performance would seem to be a series-changer. In one full season with the Twins, Pablo is now in my Top Ten favorite players.
  16. Gibson is on the active roster, but I don’t think he is starting Game 3.
  17. Is it me, or does Julien take more 3-2 pitches than anyone in MLB?
  18. Does Verlander have 97-98 in the tank any more?
  19. I just saw this on mlbtraderumors.com—several ex-Twins are now free agents. Included are Chase De Jong, Tommy Milone, Taylor Motter, Kyle Garlick and Caleb Hamilton. Travis Blankenhorn has also declined an outright assignment and is a free agent. In addition, it is reported that Celestino can opt for minor league free agency after the season ends. He has likely seen his last day in a Twins uniform.
  20. But only for a recurrence of the injury or a new injury. I do not know if all the rules apply in postseason.
