  1. Dobnak's troubles are, at the moment, still a small sample size. He earned the right to play and I'm sure he is trying to fix whatever issue is going on. The Twins giving him a long contract is a head-scratcher. I like Dobnak, but I would not have done that. At the same time, I would not have bounced him between the bullpen, minors, and back to starting. Whatever goodwill the Twins built up by giving him a contract was erased by the insanity of how they used him this year.
  2. What is really baffling about this is that Baldelli repeated an error that no one else on the planet would have done in the first place. When he put Dobnak in the pen to start the year, he bounced him out there in the 8th and 9th innings. He did the exact same thing for Shoemaker. The 8th and 9th innings are for your best bullpen guys, not your experiments, not your reclamation projects. Losing games at the end affects the pitcher involved very negatively, and can also have a negative impact on the entire team.
  3. The best thing about this is the Yankees players were probably incredibly angry after this loss. The Twins need to embrace making the Yankees angry and do it as often as possible.
  4. Very small sample size, but yes he has been doing well so far this year. Don't expect the HOF numbers to be the norm, though. At best, Gordon can be a nice OBP guy to bat leadoff. Most likely, he slides into the bottom of the order where he would probably be better than a lot of other options. His defense in the infield is really the key.
  5. Buxton just smacked two home runs yesterday. He won't get any more ready than he is. Maybe they are holding him back to reduce the amount of running around he will have to do, since Shoemaker is starting. Maybe they think all backups in the OF is ok. Who knows.
  6. When recording music, one feels like adding things to the mix and turning things up to make the music "better." Steely Dan found genius by doing the opposite, by turning everything down instead of turning it up. This is tougher to do than it seems. When you totally jam on a guitar lick or nail a vocal, you want to stick it front and center. Then you jam on the next bit, and you want that turned up too. Pretty soon, everything is turned up to 10. Or, at least, everything put in the mix by the "leader" is turned up louder. This article is genius for comparing Baldelli's apparent approach to Steely Dan.
  7. There will be so many players gone after this year, and there are so few players in the pipeline, that rebuild is the only option. This is not a bad thing, and a "rebuild" doesn't have to drag on for years as we are accustomed. Don't forget, what we were told was a rebuild last time was actually a salary dump.
  8. When I look at his stats, there are two years where he hit OK, but in every other year he has hit worse than he has this year. How he is hitting now is the best he has hit in 3 years. I would say this year is who he is when it comes to hitting. Also, defensive metrics are hilarious. A .969 fielding percentage when the league is at a .971 fielding percentage can still work out to 10 outs above average? How does that work?
  9. There are so many ways this team is failing. It has now officially become tiring trying to define them all. This is a rare situation where we can just say, "The Twins suck." You can pick any category you want and be confident that the Twins are bad at it.
  10. This year's team feels like the futile Twins teams in the late 1990s. There is some talent, but not enough, and the team is playing just plain bad baseball. A lot of people stopped watching the Twins teams in the late 90s and didn't come back until the Twins started playing well in the 00s.
  11. If Rocco knew about this and still put Dobnak out there, yeah this is another Baldelli mistake.
  12. The games don't matter anymore. Games against the Yankees, doubly so. To echo what other people have been saying, it's time to put the young people in the lineup. Dobnak is one of those guys, so I absolutely support keeping him in the game this time.
  13. Simmons is a well-regarded rental player. He should be among the players that go.
  14. When I look at videos on TikTok, Snapchat, Youtube, etc., I am reminded of the "Ow My Balls!" segments from Idiocracy. There is a remarkable amount of content of people wiping out, doing dumb things, wiping out while doing dumb things, doing dumb things with the purpose of wiping out while doing dumb things, etc.
  15. Happy to hear about Buxton entering rehab. We're behind you, Byron! One day at a time, 12 steps, etc.!
  16. I noticed the Twins also use this styling on the highlights on the web page. The pixelated animation looks like the special effects from Star Trek IV, when Starfleet is sending a distress signal to our heroes and heroines because a strange orb lost contact with its friends and decides the only option is to destroy all planetary life. My wife goes to similar extremes if I don't answer the phone. There is also a subliminal pixelated TC Bear that shows up for a fraction of a second. Not sure what that's about. It's too pixelated to tell what it is subliminally, you have to pause the video to see what it is. Maybe it's just meant to frighten us? Mission accomplished. I suppose it works, we are wondering wtf we just saw instead of wondering wtf just happened on the field.
  17. Hrbek was on some really bad Twins teams, but it did not phase him. Eventually, that rubbed off on others. It really looked like he was having a good time in spite of what was going on around him.
  18. Thanks for pulling this data. Injuries suck, but player performance on the field is the problem.
  19. Not only has MLB admitted to deadening the baseball, but now 10 teams have installed or will install humidors for their baseballs, which further deadens them. The Twins knew these things were happening, but did not change their hitting approach. Big mistake.
  20. Are they allowed to poop while they are on the pot, or no? May as well kill two birds with one stone.
  21. There is one year (2019) that Shoemaker looked awesome. It's a small sample size. Remove that year, and what happens? I agree, the Jays knew who he was. The Twins Tommy Milone'd themselves.* http://bbref.com/pi/shareit/H8Fb8 *Fun Fact: Milone is now a Blue Jay. They chose him over Shoemaker.
  22. I think every fan wants their team to be making trades with Tampa Bay. Just like in the past everyone wanted their teams to trade with Oakland or the Dodgers. GMs might be thinking the same way (probably are) which means the likelihood of dumping rentals and has-beens on the Rays is probably not in the cards. The Rays are in a good position to where they can get the best deal for their needs. Cruz might be the best deal, but I'm not sure the Rays have the need.
