  1. I don't think many believe that Santana, Escobar or even Jorge Polanco, will ever be great at SS. Jorge has the best potential there (due to his bat), but they all have their flaws. Is it out of the question, now that Dozier has matured (emotionally) and is a confident team leader to put him back at SS? I'd love to save Berrios and Gibson and try Dozier at SS with a guy like Polanco at 2B.
  2. Catcher needs to be addressed in the off-season for sure. I'd personally like to see the youth movement continue and give Polanco a look at SS. Trade wise, i think we need swing and miss guys in the bullpen. I'd move May to higher leverage spots and consider giving Meyer another look.
  3. Keith Law has always maintained that Hicks' bat wouldn't play in a corner OF spot. While most of us here likely agree, the Royals OF, even last year with Aoki, is only slightly above average in the corners offensively. What makes them elite is their defense. If we the Twins sent out Rosario, Buxton and Hicks and wanted every fly ball caught I could by into this philosophy. Phil Hughes may too. Especially if they can rob a few from the 2nd deck.
  4. Only addition I'd make is to let Hicks hit vs lefties. He has shown some ability vs LHP. Polanco would be the EVERY DAY SS too.
  5. The issue should not be about playing 3B. It's about getting both of their bats in the lineup.
  6. I'm going to copy what I wrote from another thread. "Haven't we been here before with talented guys before? we dumped David Ortiz, traded a talented Carlos Gomez and numerous others at low values. Sometimes talent takes time to mature. Left handed greatness in pitching or hitting is very hard to find. The fact that Arcia has the capability to be a star like Ortiz and Gomez shouldn't be something we throw away so easily. He's a terrible fielder and at best we can hope he becomes serviceable in the OF. BUT could you imagine the agony of tossing him aside because you prefer Hicks or Rosario's solely because you prefer their defense. Arcia may never blossom like we thought he would and become the .300/.375/.550 star we thought he'd be, but the fact that he is the ONLY LH batter in the organization with the chance to be that is worth being patient for."
  7. Completely disagree on "ruining" him by having him start. There's no basis for this. He hasn't only been a three out guy. The kids arm has low mileage and has 3 good pitches. Give the kid a chance.

  9. This is a draft I would take the financial risk on Cameron or medical risk with Aiken. Worst case is they don't sign and we have the number seven pick in a much stronger draft next year.
  10. Why are you always so extreme? We all know the definition of insanity. If this had been the MLB rotation he would have come up with a mysterious illness or injury to break the bad rhythm mojo. Sometimes changing it up is the best way to go. I don't have any facts, as do any of us, but I would find it highly illogical that this be permanent. His ceiling is still the highest but his results are not good. Let's see how'd he change plays out before we set the couches on fire.
  11. 2B - Dozier* 1B - Mauer* RF - Hunter 3B - Plouffe* DH - Vargas* LF - Arcia** C - Suzuki*** CF - Hicks** SS - Santana** Bench: IF/OF Escobar***, 4th OF Robinson, C Pinto*** *Plays everyday **Plays every DAMN day *** should get >250 PA Is it really a loss if we lost Nunez, Bernier or Shafer? Since their all out of options DFA them and hopefully they can make it through waivers. If not, Polanco or Beresford (he's hit .298, .271 and currently .321 at AAA the last three years) are more than capable call ups. Rosario should go back to AAA as he needs to play somewhere everyday, but so do Arcia and Hicks. We need our best players on the MLB 25 man. We can assemble a roster out of fear of losing a Bernier to waivers. This team CAN win, but roster management mistakes like this are unacceptable. Vargas has hit his way out of his slump no he's rewarded with a ticket to Rochester. Don't get me started on the bullpen situation either.
  12. I agree with you that the Angels should have protected themselves, but I have a hard time believing that if he was performing at the MVP level he was at when he signed the deal that they Angels would be upset. He just avoided a very long potential suspension. And in regards to feeling sorry for millionaires and their problems... Millionaires are people too. Drug and alcohol addiction doesn't care what your checking account looks like or how big your house. Good for you that you don't have this struggle, but it's not a switch that these addicts can just be flipped. You sound incredibly ignorant when you make these types of comments. Hamilton has been fighting these demons since his teen years, over half of his life. We should all hope he recovers, so maybe we can be blessed to watch him find himself one more time and more importantly his family can have their healthy husband and father back.
  13. I'm still in the move Meyer to the bullpen for he first couple months and keep innings off his arm. Around June 1, unleash him. May should be better and hopefully he can beat out Milone for a spot in ST. I want the best 5 starters, not the 5 best paid.
  14. I mean no disrespect to those that are making honest attempts at trade scenarios, but unless we give up Berrios, Stewart or some of our elite talents (Buxton and Sano off limits) the Phillies will not give us Hamels. Hamels is an ace and his contract is below current market value. His age and the five years left on his deal keeps him near his prime years too. To get a guy like him, we have to lose something. We can't have our cake and eat it too. Wil Myers was the #3 prospect in baseball and he was the centerpiece of the Shields trade and Hamels, IMO, is better than Shields. good pitching is expensive. Great pitching is very expensive. The package will have to be very attractive. Those that are unwilling to trade prospects for Hamels for fear of blocking Meyer or Mays, what is wrong with you? Hamels is an ace. He'd ethe best pitcher on our staff. If Meyer and May pan out then that mean Gibson is bumped. We value our prospects too much vs proven major leaguers. I want to win and getting better players is how to do that.
  15. Good article. Although, we'd once again be in the mid to high 5's and worst in all of MLB in team ERA. I'm all for selling high in prospects and players, but if we are ever going to compete we have to have pitching. We finally get someone resembling ane ace so we can deal him?
  16. Minus the throwing arm, I see Rosario having an Alex Gordon-type ceiling. Good range in LF, average arm, but hit for average and 14-18 HR's with a lot of doubles. He could be a long-term answer in LF. Probably not in 2015 though.
  17. At the end of 2013 there were very few who thought these two should be on the 2014 Opening Day roster. They are essentially in the EXACT same spot as they were at the end of the 2013 season! Buxton was overwhelmed in ST last year and also didn't show very well last year in the AFL. Buxton can earn his way up this year, but he has got to blow the doors off the way Trout did (Trout was a late call-up in 2011 and struggled). Buxton wasn't ready after last year and with nearly an entire year off he needs to improve improve at the minor league level in 2015 with a late call up as an option. Sano did get some talk of making the opening day roster, but was likely heading down to AA. Sano should be in the exact same spot as last year.
  18. I was about to label Kepler a "Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane" type of guy until his 2nd half. He definitely look the part, but he finally is starting to put it together. VERY encouraged by him!
  19. I remember asking in another thread about batted ball velocity! If the Twins had pitchers like the Pirates it would allow the defense to make a lot more of the routine plays and range may be less of a factor. Great article.
  20. To solve our temporary CF problem and our long-term LF problem, would you consider a move for Matt Kemp? If we give up a good prospect (say Rosario or Polanco), but they have to eat half the contract? He may realize his potential with the spotlight off of him in Hollywood. BUT is he a big enough name to draw fans?
  21. Having a great bullpen is very much part of the game now. None of the front-line starters on the FA market are in the range the Twins will go after. If a number 3 guy like Nolaso costs $12m per year is largest acquisition ever, I don't see us in the running for: Scherzer or Lester. I don't seem them seriously bidding for Shields either. The guys we have now are Nolasco and Hughes combined $20m and then likely three guys that will be cheap and under team control for years. WHen Meyer, Berrios, Stewart and Thorpe are ready they'll still be under team control, but by then my FA bullpen acquistion will be gone too. The money is available to resign others. There is money to spend NOW and there aren't very good FA options out there at our specific positions of need that don't have a prospect very close. Normally, I agree with you. Just not for this offseason, when our bullpen is not good as is and the internal options are not quite ready.
  22. While we are in "fire everyone" mode, can we somehow get Bert out of the booth? I'd rather listen to Everyday Eddie do the game in Spanglish!
  23. I don't completely agree. I am a coach/sales manager of a sales department at work. I will agree that finding the natural "go-getters" are great, because they do have their own inner drive. It doesn't mean they don't need their "buttons" pushed as well. Those that need the "external" motivation, in my experience, just haven't found their "inner" motivation yet. That is my job. To help them find the drive to push forward. Maybe Gardy has found that with Hicks after the latest (my back hurts, but not so bad to be getting treatment) episode. He has produced lately. I think what you are saying is self-motivated people tend to do better and over the LONG term that does tend to be the case. Those that aren't self-motivated often just haven't found it yet. Its the coach's job to help them. Keep in mind, not everyone has the same motivations. Some play for the love of the game and others want the big payday (often chill later; see Albert Haynesworth). Point is this is why "make-up" is such an important trait. It's the one trait that is common in the all-time greats vs those that flame out.
