  1. The Twins have a few talented arms in the minors that can be up next year or by at least 2014. Guys like Benson, Wimmers, Hendricks, possibly Appel and we have Diamond. All of these guys will cost the Twins less than a million dollars for at least the first three years of service. Grienke (18M), Benson (600K) and Diamond (600K) as a top 3 and maybe Hendricks, Wimmers or Appel can take the last two spots. If the Twins want a veteran go and get an inexpensive veteran that can be a clubhouse leader as Grienke has been known to be more of a recluse. Get a top end starter, because the depth coming up is at best filled with one number 2 starter and a bunch of 3's, 4's and 5's. An investment in a long-term solution at 3B should be explored as well, because Sano will be up in 2014 and he will not be at 3B for long.
  2. At the #2 pick, the Twins MUST pick the best overall talent. If that is Buxton, then its another toolsy outfielder. Is there an outfielder in our system with a higher upside? Its not like the Twins have ELITE talent outfielders waiting in the wings. Revere, Benson, Hicks are all good prospects, but not elite by any means (especially if Hicks can't hit RH pitching). I wish there was a Prior/Strasburg-type pitcher available, but there isn't. At #2, the Twins have to take the guy they think has the potential to carry a team. If Zunino was mashing the way he was last year, I would be right there with you Seth, but his SEC (best conference in NCAA) numbers are pretty pedestrian this year. I just hope the Twins don't take reach too far. Everyone in the top 5-6 is rated pretty similarly. Don't reach too far please!
  3. The BIGGER issue is what are the Twins going to do until Sano can come up? Next year we will have the same Parmelee/Morneau situation at first, hopefully some sort of Dozier/Carroll combo at SS and 2nd, but at third we have no prospects that are close to ready.
  4. Ben Revere was our organizations #1 pick only 5 years ago. What were the Twins expecting? I am guessing the Twins saw the potential for a solid hitter, with little power, who gets on base regularly, is an absolute menace on the basepaths and great range in the outfield. The Twins probably thought his arm would develop a little more than it has, but what has he done that has changed their view of him? He has been everything they have expected! If Span is moved for a good arm, Revere will THRIVE as the everyday centerfielder. Yes, his arm is weak, but his range is AMAZING! He will let runners advance on him, but his range will more than balance out the lack of an strong arm. Offensively, he has proven it at every level and wasn't exactly terrible in 2011. PLUS, his play-making defense and speed on the basepaths brought an intangible element to this team that it didn't have. The excitement and energy the Twins often seem to lack comes out too often, but Revere's play is exciting and energizes the entire team. Revere has a very good future with our team. Think of Juan Pierre in his prime and the absolute pain in the @ss he was when he was with the Marlins (Revere's arm is stronger than Pierre's though). That is what we will have if he is allowed to play centerfield everyday.
  5. I think there will be a couple of major improvements from your projections and a one major decline. Jamey Carroll will see about a trillion fastballs batting ahead of Mauer and Carroll's line will be closer to this: Jamey Carroll: .305/.365/.345 (.710) - 22 doubles, 3 triples, 0 HR, 30 RBI, 8 SB I think Mauer's numbers are very good, but the next guy in the lineup will be as focused as he has ever been and will produce much better than your projections. Morneau's line: .285/.360/.475 (.835) - 34 doubles, 0 triples, 26 HR, 88 RBI One thing I see this group changing this season, is driving the ball gap-to-gap and not being afraid to swing away. The last two seasons, the Twins have been "scared" of hitting at home and often have been frustrated by how difficult it is to hit HR at Target Field. The addition of Willingham (a dead-pull hitter), who hasn't been corrupted by Kubel's constant complaints of Target Field's size will inspire others to swing away and HR numbers and doubles numbers will drastically increase. On to the negative and ultimately a positive. Alexi Casilla will lose his job PERMANATELY by the middle of May. Luke Hughes will become our everday second baseman and have a fantastic year. His adjusted line ( with over 500 plate appearances) will closer resemble Danny Valencia's: .260/.335/.420 (.755) - 26 doubles, 1 triple, 18 HR, 68 RBI I am excited for our offense this year! Alex Wimmers will be dominant at AA and be up by August.
