  1. This is a misanalysis. In particular, it misstates how a blend of numbers usually works. If a vintner blends several very different wines together, ones that have little in common except that each of them has an alcohol content of about 8-16%, the fact that they share this common feature does not mean that the resulting blend has its alcoholic content "inflated into the stratosphere". Are you claiming that any of the components of SDI is like blending Everclear into a wine batch, with regard to Errors? We are long past the days where Fielding Percentage, basically an inverse measure of Error frequency, is how anyone seriously judges fielders. Range, and the deficiencies of the Error stat itself, are among the reasons to move beyond. No serious analyst places Errors higher than, probably, the 12% level of the wine example above. But that is not the same as saying Errors, as noted by Official Scorers, are without meaning. It is not remarkable if people who have independently studied the question of fielding come to an independent conclusion that Errors need to figure into a defensive rating. With that rebuttal to this tangential swipe, I'd like to suggest taking discussion of the merits of any stats (WAR is another one that disrupts threads) to a separate thread, if you feel so moved.
  2. Backup-DH. That's how you list him first. Roster spots are too precious for that. Your defense of him is how I indict him.
  3. He won't be called upon to recruit for the GCL Twins, nor work around academic eligibility rules, etc etc. I'm inclined to wait and let the team work out whether he does the job or not.
  4. "That's why we don't have nice things."
  5. In case folks missed it, please review the above post from about a day ago.
  6. Yesterday you said 20.148. Which is it ?!?!?
  7. Prospect guru Jonathan Mayo approves.
  8. "Dozier led middle infielders in home runs in the period 2013 to 2015, and extended that lead to double digits over four years with his 2016 production." Falr? Why are we arguing about this? There isn't any controversy that home run power is the reason Dozier is a trade chip at all. There was a little mixup only when the word "elite" was applied, as to whether it meant the player as a whole, or just his home run power among second basemen.
  9. Chippy play? He must mean something different than I usually associate with the term. Also, total aside: any relation to actress Tracy Scoggins?
  10. I honestly don't know. It's a new topic for me. I see "agreement reached" and generally don't think about it further. Never had occasion to follow up on one. Might be an interesting study... for someone else to conduct.

  12. If it's perceived that the player is taking on more risk than the team is, by agreeing to a short delay like this, I would think the Players Union would eventually perk up and pay attention if this happened often.
  13. Moderator's note: Everybody, a rehashing of the history of this poster and his rumor is not needed here. We know there have been false alarms. This might be one, too. TD isn't endorsing any particular rumor, to my knowledge at least. On the other hand, members are allowed to post, as long as it looks sincere and not just to stir up trouble. The Twins FO has also signaled that an end to this process is near. Let's be tolerant.
  14. Be assured, millions of thoughts and prayers will be with you.
  15. Or everybody else's pitching staff going against us suddenly becomes the 2016 Twins.
  16. So, a sentence construction begging to be misconstrued.
  17. Driving isn't in the Constitution, Hippie. Shooting Hessians is.
  18. When "toolsy" is used as kind of a left-handed compliment, it's probably the value of the arm that's overrated, no?
  19. Maybe he should be renamed Justin Case. / I slay me
  20. Never mind, I think. I just looked up Mookie Betts. If that's the upside, I feel better. Joey Bats, with a better glove, even more so. If he can hit, he can hit.
  21. Does his physical stature cause some alarm bells? Sure, a Kirby Puckett can turn out for the best, but Puck being an anomaly just reinforces the risk, to me. (I don't know that 5'11" 180 or 6'0" 190 at age 21 is a direct comp for Puckett, I'm just offering him as an example or someone not shaped like a stud athlete. He's bigger than Ben Revere, at least.)
  22. I wouldn't care, if our own team didn't periodically go through times where we DFA-and-lose someone. Jansen was with them in 2016, and will be in 2017, but for the moment they don't have to expose one of their 40 other guys to waivers. They're getting a degree of flexibility that the intent of the 40-man rules don't intend. Nobody really wants to make an issue over someone's 41st best player, but I share Darin's annoyance.
