  1. It stood out a mile to me, as having a racial origin to the request. Suppose a reporter had asked, will you be meeting with the Congressional Coal Caucus, just to pick one at random. No chance he'd ask the reporter to set something up. For some reason, he assumed this reporter was in tight with the CBC. I wonder what could cause him to expect that.
  2. And if she did it? "There they go again. The media, making the news instead of simply reporting it." He might as well have asked her if she had stopped beating her husband. A no-win response lobbed her direction.
  3. Is the latter a crime, or a punishment? The lines blur.
  4. <BYTO in-joke> / not having been a part of that scene, I can't dial one up at the moment
  5. *shrug* Guess I just revealed what a lousy athlete I would have made, even if blessed with any talent.
  6. Well, regardless of the level of effort (max or otherwise), there is a difference between pitching and merely aiming the ball, and I'd be worried about unintended consequences of a rule like this. I have no doubt that coach Allen has an answer that addresses my concern; I just haven't seen it yet.
  7. Being a natural born rules-bender, I have to wonder what constraints are on the pitcher to go max effort when doing this exercise. Is the radar gun on, and are they required to hit their usual fastball speed?
  8. Good luck to Gardy - hope they caught it early.
  9. Congratulations and best wishes for many more birthdays! http://www.rgbstock.com/cache1nu5gs/users/b/ba/ba1969/300/meMDlyQ.jpg
  10. As a Netflix virgin, I feel confident in saying that such behavior in others is morally reprehensible and deserves social ostracization. A scarlet 'N', perhaps?
  11. Maybe Trump got mixed up and thought that being loudmouths made them automatically crackpots too.
  12. Time was, the game wasn't over until one team or t'other scored 21 aces. I still don't like this business of cutting the game off at 9 innings. / or, am I quoting Chief?
  13. I member that.
  14. Rosie's Bannon, if ever unleashed on the world, might also be. / OK, it's just a photoshoop at this point, but still...
  15. Because Pittsburgh said, "that's our offer, take it or leave it," and the Twins took it in preference to losing the player for nothing? / edit - ninja'd by Mr Brooks
  16. I rely on the Forbes list of franchises at http://www.forbes.com/mlb-valuations/list/ They list franchise value, revenue, and operating income. All the revenues are $193M or higher. A few of the teams claim operating losses rather than income.
  17. Fair enough. They'll use the spring to separate the wheat from the chaff. / and then keep the chaff. Ba-dum-tssschhh.
  18. You mean crowded like when a dozen pitchers shag flies during batting practice? Because, these two signings will have just about the same impact on the parent team. Necessary organizational filler; Romanski could be a fun feel-good story for spring.
  19. Cottonwood Heights? My son lives about 5 miles west of you. Since you were there, did you have a feeling that a lot of the people in attendance were not from the congressional district? Because that's the allegation.
  20. I think his 1000 PA (or whatever) rule of thumb was cautionary: if someone starts his career hot, don't get too excited until things run their course. I don't think he advocated the other direction, of giving every prospect his 1000 PA, fair and square.
  21. You don't throw it to Natchurly! You throw it to Who!
  22. Where do I send the bill for the 4 minutes of my life I would like to have back?
