  1. Seeing that the Rochester game was rained out leads me to believe that only a few HR were hit this time.
  2. That last 100% real, not-at-all fake clip is almost too good to be true.
  3. Crap, I forgot the baserunning gaffe and how it factored in. Except for facts, my post was spot-on.
  4. Minor correction: the pitcher's spot was to lead off the Twins' sixth, so in a 1-0 game there might have been a pinch-hitter regardless, since it looked like our starter had run out of gas. Despite the one-hitter, that's what I'd have done, after an unsightly fifth that he had every likelihood (at that crucial moment) of staggering through unscored-upon. If Odo doesn't walk the pitcher but instead records that third out, he's done, but has his Quality Start, and the manager can proceed with his game plan. (Which probably included Perez coming in next, so maybe a loss was in the cards anyway.) No manager's game plan includes "what if my guy walks the pitcher when the chips are down."
  5. I suppose a hallmark of good satire is the number of people it inadvertently lures into genuine conversation. Maybe that's even healthy.
  6. It's all fun and games until someone hits .215 one year and gets both kneecaps broken as a consequence.
  7. Assuming this is a bit tongue in cheek, it still represents exactly what ownership is doing. The highest paid players thus are in a position to play in the same financial waters - except of course that league/union rules probably rule out player relationships of that nature, for various good reasons.
  8. That is a really broad statement. I can think of people whose opinions I respect who had real doubts about Polanco being good in the majors. .900 is a high bar. Your remark made me double check - no Twin with enough PA to qualify for a batting title has done it since 2009. Oof, we lament our pitching but what an uninspiring stretch we've been through with the bats too. I hope Polanco leads the way toward being an interesting team. Oh, and I'll go with D in the poll. I've always liked his potential.
  9. Target Field when asked for comment sniffed, "Joe Mauer left that Teflon-topped, Heftybag-decorated hussy for me. 'Nuff said."
  10. No hits (one walk) through 4 and 1/3 innings is always the sign that medical intervention is needed. I was at the game and was as befuddled as anyone else as to what suddenly changed. The medium breeze was blowing favorably for the pitchers, and I thought maybe our man Jake had been pitching with confidence that quality pitches in the zone wouldn't be jacked out of the park. Maybe I was imagining things with that, but if not, then I really have no idea why he seemingly became leery of coming in to the strike zone after the one hit. He was pitching with a run one lead against a fine pitcher, so he might have been trying to be careful not to allow even a tying run. Too careful. But the results with the first 14 batters kind of rule out an IL stint.
  11. If yesterday's game is the rationale for asking, I have to wonder how Kimbrel's presence on the roster would have affected that nasty fifth inning?
  12. I keep telling myself that no one cares to know my inner dialogue, but I still can't help doing it.
  13. It wasn't a gale force, so I don't know about pitches already with a wiggle to them. Although, given the results at certain points, maybe that was indeed what was happening. My point was that pitchers should pitch a bit more confidently because the steady breeze from left to right would tend to hold back blasts to left, and drive foul blasts to right. In that view, Garner's home run to left was impressive. His power is legit. I'm starting to be a believer in the bat. And there wasn't a comedy of errors behind the plate last night either.
  14. Fifth inning was just as tough to take in person as I'm sure it was on TV. With the wind blowing in... Just throw strikes!
  15. Local mainstay Cowbell Man makes his annoying presence known a few rows down.
  16. Pretty sparse crowd at game time.
  17. Better seats for the ninth inning
  18. Look at how they spell Ehire's name.
  19. It's early, but with three HR we are having fun. Hope you are enjoying the game too.
  20. Trading anyone a few weeks into a new contract, period, would need to be for special reasons that likely bode ill for a season.
  21. Am on Amtrak right now heading into the city for the game. Hope to chime in once or twice during the action.
  22. Astudillo breaking yet another unwritten rule of baseball or two, after hitting homers in the Venezuelan Winter League:
  23. I'll have to go locate my 3-D glasses in order to properly view that Rob Friedman video.
