  1. Wallner leading off against a good lefty. What does he do? HBP! He's known for that, and I guess it's better than meekly making an out, but it still is a missed opportunity for him to show something that will let him be a full time player IMO.
  2. I suppose consistency is the biggest hurdle and the reason it's not more common in the majors. Consistent unpredictability, I mean. A mis-thrown instance goes from Knuckle ball to Batting Practice ball to Home Run ball in a hurry.
  3. Since we're going there, apparently, here is my periodic reminder of the compendium of great but off-color baseball names, by renowned baseball historian Stew Thornley. NSFW, obviously, as well as thoroughly juvenile, and nobody blame me if you click the link after those warnings. https://www.milkeespress.stewthornley.net/allnameteam.html
  4. Yeah, I think by this point the Twins may even have gone to the county courthouse and gotten his legal name changed to include that question mark.
  5. As opposed to the massive amount of say we have with Rocco's platooning tendencies or Edouard Julien's propensity to look at third strikes? 😀
  6. The composite scouting report on his defense in the OOTP computer game has him as a potentially capable corner outfielder whose arm in particular would make him no better than adequate in CF. Indeed their overall scouting report would have him as a poor-man's Emmanuel Rodriguez. For better or for worse and with much the same baggage for debate.
  7. Maybe I missed it in the article, but was there injury involved in his 2023-2024 seasons when he had a lot fewer plate appearances than when he still looked like a solid prospect in 2022 and before? (/edit - actually it appears he's always missed significant time as a pro, except in 2022.) If the Twins see something they like in his fundamentals, and believe the injury jinx is behind him, I wouldn't start him at AAA but it's a reasonable investment of a roster slot at AA to see whether he can regain his former luster, with a possible promotion to AAA mid-season. Even some low-leverage PA with the big club during Spring is a very auspicious signal. He could be a sleeper prospect. In fact, quite possibly the perfect sleeper. Cerda? Serta? Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha hahhhh, I slay me.
  8. "Those grapes would have tasted sour anyway, probably .... " For reference, compare the discussion in this article in October. Then: Spending doesn’t guarantee success, but as the Dodgers and Yankees remind us, not spending almost certainly guarantees failure. Now: smart, sustainable decision-making is just as important The messages are not at odds, but certainly the emphasis became different.
  9. Yes. One inning. Three walks, no runs. baseball-reference.com has their 2025 page up for the Twins and it has current Spring stats: https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIN/2025.shtml
  10. Kala'i with the walk! Come on Rubel, big finish now.....
  11. Productive out from Keaschall. Keep it going.
  12. And Cerda with the ringing double. No stopping this squad now.
  13. All right, Holland with the leadoff single. Big ninth inning, coming right up. Here We Go!
  14. Samuel Perez pitching in the ninth. He's someone they've slow-walked through the minors, repeating single-A Ft Myers 3 years in a row now with only tiny tastes of high-A, and now he's 25 years old and they want to see how he'll do against other tail-enders in a spring game? Is there really no other arm who is healthy and available this afternoon that they'd rather see?
  15. If his first name is Leocadio and his middle name is Francisco, how did he get the nickname Tony?
  16. And which so far this spring has not, Buxton being the lone exception. It's all SSS, but I'd have hoped for more SSS of good numbers to balance out the bad. Cross fingers for today - Rocco is giving clear signs as to what starting lineup he'd like to see emerge.
  17. Also of note, our pitchers faced a lot of batters.
  18. One of the marks of good satire, IMO, is when it occasionally gets taken seriously. Otherwise it's just a spoof or parody or whatnot.
  19. Every single year with this team. Sometimes I'm wrong (Carlos Santana). Sometimes the jury's still out during the next spring training (Caleb Thielbar) though it still feels inevitable. Sometimes it becomes quickly clear (Jay Jackson). BTW at first I misread and thought you were doing a story on Mike Tonkin. The same lead sentence would apply.
  20. Concur. Kepler's gone, and IMO Wallner will get every opportunity to fill his role now.
