  1. I expect a nice first inning, with at most a harmless 2-out baserunner. / unwilling to predict any farther into the future than that
  2. Pushed across the first-inning run. Nice.
  3. Underway! Good start with a base hit, Dozierzie! (On 0-2, ha. Paging Chief, paging Chief.)
  4. > Never say never but, if history has any indication, the likelihood of him pitching effectively in April appears low. Now, got any stock tips, as the market appears to be nearing a top?
  5. Boy, the players get younger every year, don't they? You sure those are Boyd and Duffey, and not a couple of middle-schoolers?
  6. I bet it's in invisible ink, in a scrawl readable only by himself, and even if you could see it, and read it, it would look like: Meyer - 1z%885## 2o 3!!:jump:xyz 4:banghead: 5:jump:zyx
  7. On Februrary 18, 1885: Mark Twain's "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," published Jamey Carroll, baseball infielder, was born Preparations continued to dedicate the Washington Monument
  8. Please keep posting these. These are great reads.
  9. Since the Twins pick 4th, and it's nearly certain that the first three players picked are in this list, I think we kind of need an ordering here.
  10. I'd like to see them package their #4 pick with a backup quarterback and trade up to #2. Failing that, I'm honestly OK with whatever present the Twins scouts put under the Christmas (in June) tree for me. This is just not something I feel like I have any informed opinion about, however much I read.
  11. You probably have heard the story of the guy who traded a paper clip for a house. Link. The Twins kind of traded a house, Santana Manor, for a paper clip named Hoey.
  12. Game avatar for Pedro Hernandez is now up.
  13. Luck is when random variation works against you. Intuitive skill is when it works in your favor. / or, bearing down, or gettin' after it
  14. I still choose to believe that his cracked rib from "horseplay" this offseason could turn out to be his Come To Jesus moment, and will be what allows him to tap his potential. I'd like to keep him in his current role and let him establish some longer-term success this season, to make sure this change wasn't just momentary. But eventually I could see letting him compete for a rotation role. More options for the team are always better than fewer.
  15. Funny how much she reminds me of your sister.
  16. I don't know, but since it's written in the CBA or whatever there must be some reason a player might choose to invoke it. My understanding is he still has an option. So exposing him to other teams isn't even necessary. It's just a question of him seeing it as being in his own interest, as you say. It's possible he'd see it differently. If he's concerned about his next contract, he may be optimistic and believe he's better served to put up some good numbers in the majors than at AAA.
  17. You can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him.
  18. I grew up hearing the phrase "I nickeled him down" meaning bargained hard. Never thought anything about it, just a casual phrase, until one time a Jewish friend looked at me funny. Oh....
  19. Gyp. Bit of an offensive term to gypsies.
  20. I think it's true that even if he clears waivers and is DFA, he can refuse the minor league assignment. So then the choice is to just cut him. Do you believe the experiment is enough of a failure to do that?
  21. I decided to try their historical feature, so I started with 1913. The next season Babe Ruth was available in the draft so I grabbed him. He wasn't real good that next season (age 19), and then the next season he got an injury that took a few days to diagnose. When the diagnosis mail came, it was a torn labrum, and "unfortunately it is a career ending injury." Oh well, easy come, easy go. Kind of funny when you do those historical leagues to see a guy get injured and require Tommy John surgery that keeps him out for a year.
  22. You should apply for a job as their marketing guy.
  23. Who knew the problem would turn out to be that this league is too easy? Everything looks like a changeup to him. "Shoot, fooled me again with the off-speed." "Son, Verlander was giving you his heater."
  24. Interesting. I thought no one would want the nickname Bonehead after what Fred Merkle went through way back when.
  25. The end of April marks a good moment to size up his season so far. In 90 plate appearances Joe is now batting .217, which is up considerably from its lowest point; his OBP/SLG is .278/.337, giving an OPS of .615. This is still subpar but being on the upswing is better than not. He has stolen 4 bases and been caught once, he has scored 12 times but only driven in 3, and his 28 strikeouts are about 15 more than one might hope. He has fielded pretty well, with his 2 errors coming in left field where he has the least experience. All in all, a mixed bag, but he hasn't buried himself and a strong May is very possible. Go Benson, we need another Joe on the Twins.
