  1. The on-line PBP leaves a bit to be desired on this one - what happened, Mauer started to head for home and then turned back, and Hammer with his blazing speed was already two-thirds of the way to third?
  2. How long a leash do we give Kluber?
  3. Small point, but Hardy was still under team control; the team just didn't want to pay him at arbitration/market price, and traded him for flame-throwing peanuts.
  4. A trick I learned a while back when reading Dear Abby, instead of the answer Abby gives, substitute "Dear Hurting in Alabama: you sound fat." Not politically correct, but there's a kernel of humor in there maybe. And inside that kernel, maybe even an atom of insight now and then: the world often doesn't treat overweight people with kindness.
  5. A quick google search turns up no previous use of this phrase. +1 Internets to you, good sir Gibby, for this coinage.
  6. While at the same time both of you are incorrect in your respective positions?
  7. Considering that a knock on Anthony Slama has been that his gaudy K rate is based on called third strikes that would not translate well to the majors... the Twins hitters have three of them thus far today, so maybe we should call up Slama to the majors quickly and see if this umpire would give him the calls too.
  8. What was that, about an hour in the bottom of the fourth?
  9. Things sure slow down when Pelfrey has a man in scoring position. I'm all for "don't be in a hurry to lose" but this is pretty extreme. Pelf is not a good manager of game sequences: should have switched the order of the strikeout and flyout.
  10. Ruh roh. Gardy got 3 good innings out of Pelf. Now a leadoff double. If they cough up this 2-0 lead I blame the manager.
  11. For those of you keeping score at home, it was, uh, I wasn't watching. Checking the ESPN pitch-by-pitch count, and ... they weren't watching either. Quick game.
  12. So don't leave us hanging, Gibby. Did you learn the secret of pluffy filap? Please share.
  13. Is it my imagination, or are both teams playing like it's getaway-day? With the exception of Swisher, doesn't look like the batters are being overly patient, and/or the pitchers are not messing around and nibbling (thus punishing the patient ones with "struck out looking").
  14. And then they stay inexpensive for a few seasons as those younger players mature but stay under team control via the CBA. And thus every year, you have a (different) team for fans of small market teams to point to and say "see? the Rangers/Athletics/whoever don't have a huge payroll and they do all right."
  15. Killer was a bonus baby, wasn't he? That resulted in his having to be in the majors far sooner than he should have been, but also speaks to his being a huge prospect.
  16. There was a young belle of old Natchez Whose garments were always in patchez. When asked about wins, And the state of the Twins, She, drawled, "They oughta've signed Snachez."
  17. I'm not even going to bother picking an in-game avatar for Pelf. Nothing I've tried has worked, he's on his own. And the sunshine avatar lost it's magic for Correia yesterday. All in all, I think this joke's been run into the ground. Anyone who cares can look at my updated blog posting on the subject - link - or if you want to ogle the blonde t-shirt girl or the others.
  18. In Saturday's game, Kipnis hit a long fly that Hicks couldn't track down and went for a triple. I was following only by online play-by-play log, so my scorecard (were I keeping one) would have said WW, same as for every plate appearance. Still, one of the knowledgeable contributors in the TD game thread said "Wasn't even all that tough of a catch." If a center fielder has to go more than a couple of steps in either direction, is "ordinary effort" such that pretty much anything he doesn't get a glove on ruled a hit instead of an error?
  19. Get back on your meds, my brother.
  20. I would not have taken you for a Trotskyite.
  21. Think of the 12-year-olds, please.
  22. Sorry, I thought your comment about crappy hitters in reply to a mention of Joe Mauer was just to get a rise out of someone. It did. And anyone smart enough to quote Monty Python is capable of, well, torturing us with soft pillows.
  23. That is the message I'd like to think posterity will infer, when they research TD game threads.
