    From Allison Stokke Bio - The University of California Official Athletic Site : ... as a [high school] sophomore, broke county and meet records and tied the sophomore national record with a jump of 13-4; later, broke all three records again with a mark of 13-5.75 ... set the freshman national record with a mark of 12-8 I have no idea what she might do, going forward. In the Olympics everything is metric, so she'll have to start over.

Edit: Things resolved peacefully in Grand Forks. From the article earlier cited: "A Grand Forks man is in custody after an hours-long standoff Sunday near the Grand Cities Mall...."

    At a certain level I'm sure he agrees with you; in his first year or two he got a lot of flak for calling plays like this errors. The scorers are directed to give a lot of weight to the phrase "ordinary effort" in the rulebook when it comes to charging errors. It does make official fielding statistics close to useless for judging a player's defensive value.

    Nice job by Fien. I would have liked to give KC his chance at the shutout, but if he took as many pitches to do it as Fien did then he'd have been up to 120, and if the braintrust wasn't willing to go that far when the shutout is still intact then they had to do what they did. I can still disagree, but I have no skin in the game, and it would indeed be ridiculous if he had some bad games afterward and this long game was blamed.

    I've had some conversations with one of the official scorers. It's good you pose this as a problem with the game as a whole; this is the standard universally in MLB, and is not a problem with the Twins per se.

    The kind of play he probably was able to laugh off in the minors. I hope he gets a serious talk, plus then some constructive criticism on his technique, and then lots of drills to reinforce it. "You went 1-for-3 at bat. That's not going to cut it, when you do that in the field. I'm not going to let you do that to one of my pitchers. Period." Make that 1-for-4. I forgot he still was coming up to bat.

    If he weren't busy pitching today, I would send Kevin Correia up to Grand Forks to help. He seems to be able to stay calm in a crisis situation.
