  1. Or, "Ask the Federal Correction Facility".
  2. MLBTR points out the FL vs MN sales tax difference. That plus it being his home state, probably meant that Twins had to significantly outbid the Fish to get him
  3. I must be missing something. The comments I've seen on Pinto range from "ready for MLB starting job right now" to "needs a season of AAA, his defense is still not where it should be". Can't recall anything worse than that, let alone "hopeless".
  4. [video=youtube;_j9QeUoPOi4]
  5. And this one quickly got covered too...
  6. Good job. First question asked, by the Channel 5 guy.
  7. I'd ask if I could use it to remodel my retirement fund.
  8. Isn't there a $20M windfall (TV revenue?) for each team starting this year? Maybe the As are approaching it as a chance to spend on an individual player or two, rather than spread it around more thinly. And Hudson for whatever reason (age?) wasn't to their liking for that expenditure.
  9. To my mild surprise, an interesting story arose from that incident...
  10. You can have too many pitchers who are out of minor league options. I think we're about at that point now.
  11. MLBTR has it as a one-year deal for 8.25 with the Bosox.
  12. It's funny because it's true.
  13. Appears that Hanigan is headed to Tampa, anyway.
  14. No rule in Moneyball prohibits acquiring an "effective reliever" though. If they had soured on Weeks, particularly his defense, then converting an inadequate infield part into a productive bullpen piece sounds like a win to me.
  15. Depending on which indy league the guy played it, he might still be a pro. Even if the league pays so little that he still needs an off-season job, that's not so different than the Major Leagues were up until the 1950's or maybe even a bit later. She was lucky she woke up still in possession of her kidneys. Moderator's note: forgive me for changing the title. It was a little too National Enquirer-like.
  16. If I bid 23 quatloos for the 2 years of this thrall's services, do I win?
  17. Possibly you are thinking of this thread: C l e v e l a n d - p h a s i n g - o u t - t h e i r - m a s c o t I have placed the link as inconveniently as I could, with a few moments' effort.
  18. Among the various assumptions in your post, this one is maybe easiest to test, if you feel up to a visit to the Rez. Try it and see what sort of reactions you get.
  19. Note that a release is not the only choice. Package up two or three of the "usual suspects" in a trade, and *boom* you've got roster space. Doumit plus Swarzak for... Diamond plus Parmelee for... doesn't have to be a can't miss prospect or a current MLB starter, something like another team's #8 prospect would be OK if your infusion of talent to the 40-man roster is great enough.
  20. At least one guy had him this way, a year earlier: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/10/28/2519502/philadelphia-phillies-top-20-prospects-for-2012
  21. That's one infraction point to you, and one to Brian for clicking Like. / I figured ChiTownTwinsFan would beat me to this, since "the man" is definitely not an apt description
  22. The reason it's scarce is that somebody forgot to insert the word "competent" when the quote was conceived.
  23. I have no doubt this phase of the effort requires all the finesse in the world. But picking *which* pitchers to negotiate most seriously with is no small thing either.
  24. Congratulations to Jack for his role in getting Nolasco under contract.
