  1. I didn't think my comment which you quoted suggested that; indeed that was at the heart of it. The relationship goes both ways, and Torii made the mistake of exposing the presumption of entitlement that we know is there but is foolish for a player to state. You and I agree that Hunter didn't handle it very adroitly. Exactly where he went astray is more for his PR guy to explain to him anyway.
  2. You've had your skeleton and mop signature line for a while now. Maybe time for a new one?
  3. I was as much bothered by his side comment to him, "I don't even know you". Like there is a level of privilege or entitlement in his dealings with the public and the media.

  5. Since the idea of trading for Michael Saunders was floated elsewhere on this site, I thought I'd mention that he's off the table now. The Jays get him from Seattle for starter J. A. Happ. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/mariners-blue-jays-swap-michael-saunders-j-a-happ.html Despite their attempts to upgrade for 2015, Toronto is now officially Happ-less.
  6. I'm not much of a fan of the signing, but IMO it addresses one thing I'm worried about: that the run-scoring the Twins did in 2014 was partly a mirage and could take a step backward as the young'uns develop. Hunter has age going against him but still might be less prone to regression than some guys (not named Mauer) who based exciting results on high Babip.

  8. I taught my wife-to-be how to drive a manual transmission. If the relationship could survive that, I figured, she was probably a keeper.
  9. Since that point of view amounts to valuing looks over personal attributes, and is considered shallow (at least when I do it ), I'm not sure this analogy goes in the direction you hoped.

  11. Moderator's note: Then start a new thread?
  12. Count on the message suddenly changing. That should fix the problem.
  13. Too bad if Terry Ryan didn't think to front-load the deal.
  14. It somehow rubs me the wrong way to move younger players (flawed or otherwise) because of a one-year signing of another player.
  15. There was a little snafu in trying to move or merge some articles, if I remember correctly. It would take an act of Brock to fix the mis-attribution. Maybe send him a PM if you want it cleaned up.
  16. Though, with Aaron Thompson, Chris Colabello, and Chris Parmelee on the 40-man, they have a wealth of choices, don't they?
  17. So, Arcia in left and Torii in right? Or does the veteran switch positions? How's that going to work out?
  18. I attended one game in Oakland where Milone pitched against our Twins. I will forever be grateful to him for demonstrating to my satisfaction that Pedro Florimon is not a major league hitter. He can have a roster spot on my team for as long as he likes.
  19. They spotted a flaw in his release point and hope to add 2-3 MPH to his fastball. /obligatory
  20. It's a nice Hot Stove kind of thread. And I think my view was altered a bit after reading the back-and-forth.
  21. He could start to pronounce his name sher-ZAIR. What if Lester started wearing a beret or something? Or struck batters out strictly on an ironic basis and used only organic baseballs, like Hipster Kevin Slowey? Would that give him enough pizzazz?
  22. The US Congress is now involved?
  23. Moderator's note: This is a discussion thread about a particular trade, becoming derailed by an extended side topic of Billy Beane's body of work, segueing into a comparison to the Twins' GM, and becoming rancorous as a result. Please start a separate thread if you want to discuss these broader matters. (And just to be clear, tangents themselves are not usually a problem when they continue to relate directly to the topic. Donaldson versus Lawrie defensively, fine. Factors underlying this trade, fine. But, Beane has never lost 90 games, the value of making the postseason versus winning it all... let's stick to the topic.)
  24. Dock Bower makes some interesting points here. Is spelling the main criterion, or is mangled pronunciation of guys like Arcia of value? You mentioned Borjuss in that context. Missed an opportunity by not promoting Mientkiewicz to the manager's spot. Rumor is that Shark is available for trade, and a battery of him and Salty would be good.
  25. Moderator's note: We ask that you avoid making things quite so personal. Which, as it happens, is also why we ask that posters not tout their own credentials too much. Please just keep such discussion to the facts and opinions as you see them.
