  1. No, but criticizing the existence of someone's thread within the thread itself is mentioned in the TD Comment Policy.
  2. When I saw the beginning of the title to this thread was The Elephant In The Room, I assumed it was going to be about Kennys Vargas. Mauer hasn't gained all that much weight.
  3. So, is Berardino going out of his way to make Terry Ryan roll his eyes this month?
  4. If he pitches well next year, would he sign one?
  5. At the tender age of 36, Ryan Vogelsong has yet to be sent to the mound to start an inning 200 times in a season. But maybe age 37 will be the year. Note: could make the same observation about 30-year-old Francisco Liriano and his age-31 year.
  6. One way a Vogelsong signing would make sense to me is if Nolasco and the Twins have mutually soured on each other and Ryan has a deal in place to move him. Such a deal would probably involve almost nothing in return, assuming the other team takes on the full salary, and in that case Vogelsong might be viewed as providing similar performance at a lower cost to the Twins.
  7. Let's put it this way, I'd prefer someone other than Antony as GM, but I'd prefer Antony with Ryan as the President than with Ryan gone and DSP still as president. But this is all thought-experiment, as Berardino's scoop sounds a lot like the reporter ran into a Jays source at the hotel and asked how Ryan would fit their current job opening. I was especially skeptical of the word 'yet' in "but was unsure if the Blue Jays had contacted the Twins yet to request permission". This really sounds to me like an old-school Hot Stove League item.
  8. It wasn't crazy for Mizzou to be on the same field with Bama. It isn't crazy for the Gophers to be on the same field with Mizzou. Life is good.
  9. Sounds like Berardino asked someone's reaction to Ryan's name, the person said, "yeah, he's real good, would love to have him", and that's it. The Blue Jays were mentioned as a landing spot for Ryan years ago, when contraction was an issue, if I recall. Presumably they still think well of him. If I was Jim Pohlad and Ryan came to me saying he had an offer to be a president somewhere else, I'd tell him he could have DSP's job, why move. But, that's if I was Pohlad.
  10. Willingham was a Dec 15 signing and Correia was December 13, fitting what Jokin said. Doumit was traded last December 18, as well. Fein was signed January 3 so that one was missed.
  11. A year ago at this time, Pedro Florimon was ensconced as our starting shortstop. I'm not eager to declare this a position where there's a logjam that needs to be loosened, quite yet. How about we give them Escobar for Niese instead? They wouldn't go for that? Then I'm not so eager to put Escobar as my starting shortstop, either.
  12. Moderator's note: Personally I try to use this gif in a spirit of fun, not to express actual exasperation. Be that as it may, if either of you being truly dumbfounded / speechless at the other means it's the end of this bickerfest between you two, then some good will have come of it. Let me be clearer: stop the bickering, both of you. The simplest litmus test is, when it's becoming about the other person intertwined with the ideas, take a step back.
  13. Or vice versa.
  14. I got that saying from a fortune cookie, so if you're familiar with the game based on reading those, maybe you're right.
  15. You are correct about assumptions, and while I liberally sprinkled "I think" and "possible" in my post, an extra one can't hurt. I agree also that if they ramp up, he's well placed to coordinate; and I left out but hopefully it's inferred that I think he's probably smart. That said, the secrecy also fits the pattern I was describing; sometimes it's well to keep quiet if your steps are still tentative.
  16. If you're worried you can't give your money away, we should talk. Ones aren't beneath my dignity where donations are concerned.
  17. Further evidence for the saying "be careful of what you measure, for that is all you shall get".
  18. FWIW, I don't think Jack Goin is an expert on analytics. Goin is a guy in the organization who has the right temperament and no prior expertise and was tasked to keep tabs on what's going on in the analytics world and report back, and apply some methods where he can. I think he's capable of telling Terry that defensive stats are half cooked. I don't think he's capable of suggesting how to finish the recipe. So in that light, it's quite possible that what you're suggesting is exactly what he's telling Terry, and no more, and that's a missed opportunity. I had a similar role once or twice in my career, and it's how business people operate. It can be successful, but also can carry you only so far.
  19. To make room on the roster, they'll of course need to release Eduardo Nunez.
  20. He might still be a little too low in the minors, but I'll throw out Max Murphy as a breakout candidate.
  21. Teens apply their customized home-and-away factors, while spouses have the option of considering "Above Replacement Level".
