  1. And with that final out by Kepler, Royce's HR means his OPS actually went up, to 4.000. What goes up, must come.... possibly further up.
  2. Fun With Numbers, early season edition*: with 2 walks so far today, Royce Lewis maintains his 3.500 OPS exactly. * Early for Royce anyway
  3. Jeffers has had an ouch in his batting average since May 15. Might be small sample size, might be bad-BABIP-luck, and I don't know what level of faith Rocco places on recent performance. I also won't claim to know what "messages" Rocco sends via his lineups, but one possibility is that the skipper is telling him, "you want starter's minutes, you need to keep earning them when you have the chance. Be ready when called on today, and see you tomorrow."
  4. Fifth. So, one out, bases loaded, in the first inning? That's the plan? Sounds good to me. Hope it works.
  5. So far this season Twins starters rank 14th in number of innings pitched, placing the staff squarely in the mainstream of the 30 teams. This, despite sporting a collective ERA that ranks 22nd in ERA. This suggests Rocco's actually shown patience with his starters. They rank 21st in innings pitched by relievers*. If the Twins bullpen is stretched, then so is virtually every other major league team's, and regulating that strain is part of every manager's job. *A spot check of the teams with the very fewest relief innings correlates with having very good starter ERAs, and that tends to fluctuate over the long season so I would expect all these numbers to shift a bit by year end.
  6. Find a GIF of an orangutan hiring a more highly-skilled chimp* to do the work, and you'll have me. * I did my homework and asked ChatGPT 3.5, the AI being more highly-skilled than I at comprehensive fact-checking
  7. Many of us who participate in game threads from time to time are surprised it could be even this many.
  8. Roster management is not always straightforward. The FO must weigh what's best for the team right now, what's best for the team in the long run, and what's best for the player himself. Fortunately in this case, sending Eddie to AAA, to try and straighten out whatever's wrong with his approach at the plate, checks all of the boxes. As a bat-first player, he needs to hit, period. He's doing no one including himself any good with what he's done so far this season.
  9. Welp, we've got our 3 hits for the day already. SWR better make this huge lead stand up.
  10. 60-day IL last year, May to September, with "forearm tightness". Mild UCL sprain. Mild, I tell you. Nope, no red flags there. None at all. 😀
  11. In the motel at 11, and up at 5 for our flight, didn't leave a lot of time for low-and-slow roasting of brisket. Another time.
  12. Actually I circled back and it was easy to look up: Walking Underwear. (Okay, okay, Joaquin Andujar.) His mastery of the English language may have been superior to either Casey or Yogi.
  13. Twins starting pitcher tonight has been scuffling of late, while the Astros' starter had yet to have a bad start. So naturally, I tune in now and find our Twins leading, what, 5-1? Because of course! You can sum up baseball in one word, and that word is "you never know". -- whose quote is this? (it isn't Yogi)
  14. Mrs Ash and I spent an unanticipated night in the state of Texas yesterday, due to a good-luck/bad-luck set of circumstances involving the weather and a connecting flight through DFW. We know better - don't fly through Denver to see family at Christmas, and don't fly through Dallas for summer vacations. They need to build a roof over the entire state. And of course, we remember General Sheridan's statement long ago: "If I owned Texas and Hell, I would rent out Texas and live in Hell." Personally, I can't see the difference that he was able to discern.
  15. Here's hoping that Pablo pitches so well that luck doesn't factor into the outcome at all.
  16. No one said otherwise. As for your overly narrow definition of trolling, I'm not playing along, sorry.
  17. Yes, my bad, I missed his side comment. Using the Quote feature helps provide context when taking up someone's tangent.
  18. LOL, I saw the CYA-7 meaning 7th place and didn't look deeper to find out that just one vote was enough to tie with two others. 😀
  19. You brought up the question of money, I didn't, and the writer of the article certainly didn't.
