  1. I don't know what we can do to appreciate Mauer more. Throw rose petals at his feet? Gold, frankencense, and myrrh? I think Joe's doing OK and I don't think he sweats the haters too much. I don't think we need to start the Joe Mauer Foundation for Underappreciated Millionaires.
  2. 184 million dollar players are, by definition, not underappreciated.
  3. In The Show 2013 this trade could happen.
  4. Gardy would love the chance to sac bunt more often.
  5. At least the fans at Rochester can enjoy the cool breeze coming from Thomas's bat.
  6. It seems to me that TR isn't really thrilled about Correia either. If the Twins need numbers, there's dozens of minor league free agents that can give De Vries, Walters, and Deduno a run for their money, and for much cheaper and virtually no commitment. With that approach, the Twins would have even more numbers and a better shot that somebody will stick.
  7. I know we're still upset about LNP getting thrown out over-running third base... but you have to reach base to get thrown out at third. I'm not convinced Florimon can do that. That's not to say I want Punto back. I'd rather not have either of them.
  8. I never liked Punto. I think he'd be better than Florimon, though...

  10. Maybe, but they first acquired him in the Rule 5 draft. No, they didn't acquire Johan Santana in the Rule 5.

  12. I'll give TR credit for that one. He's still batting below the Butera line in acquiring free agent pitchers.
  13. Kenny Rogers wasn't great in 2003, but that signing looks brilliant when put into context.
  14. Conversely, I think he signs these types because he thinks that eventually he'll get a winning lottery ticket and will be hailed as a genius for it.
  15. The "we have to have numbers" part seems to fly in the face of the recent Correia signing. The Twins have numbers, and what's more they can cast some nets for minor league free agents that can "emerge" or "fall by the wayside". The quantity of pitchers isn't the issue with the Twins. The issue is the quality of those pitchers. How many 4 and 5 starters does a team need?
  16. I'm going to disagree with most of the sentiment here. TR's recent comments about providing Gardy with personnel seems to indicate to me that Gardy's going to be given the benefit of the doubt (again) regardless of how the team performs this year. Not offering Gardy a contract extension in this offseason is as close to firing the manager as the Twins will get in my estimation. I predict Gardy will receive at least a 2 year extension after 2013.
  17. It's not about killing the budget, the Twins have money to spend. What bothers me is that the Twins already have guys who can give them what Correia can. I'm not a big believer in the minor leaguers the Twins trotted out last year, but I'd rather give them the spot at league minimum than going outside the organization for redundant filler like Correia.
  18. Except for that Correia isn't league average, even in the National League. The Pirates demoted him to the bullpen. Think about that - Correia couldn't even hold down the 5th spot in the Pittsburgh Pirates' awful rotation.
  19. Maybe Correia can post better numbers with Butera as his personal catcher.
  20. I'm not convinced Hicks is the "best" player or major league ready. Last year's injuries forced the Twins to put their "best" starters on the mound. How did that work? Their "best" starters were the ones that were hurt all season (Pavano and Baker), and the ones that they were counting on that were just plain terrible (Blackburn, Liriano, Marquis). Other than Hendriks, none of the other pitchers the Twins rolled out there were considered to be prospects. "Best" starters is relative considering the dearth of starting pitching depth. If the Twins dipped down to AA or even High-A last year for starters the results couldn't have been much worse.
  21. Mastroianni is a nice bench player but I believe he'll be overexposed if pressed into full-time duty. Benson, despite the fact that he had a cup of coffee in 2011, should be behind Hicks on the depth chart. IMO, either the Twins should just roll out with Hicks, or find a platoon partner for Mastroianni.
  22. I predict the Twins will have a payroll right around $80 million after signing a couple cheap free agent pitchers. TR's on record saying that one player earning 25% of the payroll is bad business. The Twins would need a payroll greater than $92 million to not be in that situation.
  23. Carroll > Figgins.

  25. If you want exciting characters on the Twins team, you'll love Worley.
