  1. I suppose it's a good trade. I'm still not going to say the Twins made a brilliant move in signing Abad. He wasn't signed to be trade bait, he was signed to help get the team to the playoffs.
  2. RA: What's it gonna take for you to take Nolasco? Rally Monkey: You gotta take Santiago. RA: Ugh. Would you take Meyer too? RM: Ick. Would you kick in some cash?
  3. Smalley thinks Duffey is pitching well.
  4. I don't like the commitment to Molitor. It complicates the GM search.
  5. Not exactly what I meant. My point was that a few hot weeks from Suzuki should not change the Twins' mind about keeping him around or not.
  6. Let's not fall into the same trap that resulted in the second Suzuki contract or the Hughes extension. The guy you're seeing out there is not the real Kurt Suzuki.
  7. This is partly my fault for losing interest early in the season. Sorry guys.
  8. Would have been nice to demote Park to AAA before outrighting Arcia... but whatever. I would trade Dozier, but I don't think the Twins would. He's become "their guy." I would trade Nunez for a bullpen piece.
  9. The Twins don't do this kind of thing, and they probably shouldn't in this case. It sounds like a good idea to play them in a rotation, except if one guy is on a hot streak he shouldn't be sitting... and if another guy is ice cold he shouldn't be bumping the others out of the lineup. Invariably one of those players (in this case, probably Park) would get the lion's share of the bench time.
  10. There's a lot of rumors and hearsay about a lot of Twins players.
  11. The Twins forced their own hand here by 1. Signing Park, and 2. being unwilling to send Park to the minors. If Rosario, Buxton, Kepler, and Polanco earned their demotions then you can't argue that Park hasn't earned it. I think TR doesn't want to admit that his "big" offseason move was a mistake that glonked up the roster.
  12. I'm not a big Arcia fan... I don't think he's going to go all Big Papi. I'm less of a fan of Santana, who provides bad defense wherever you put him and doesn't hit a lick. I'm also of a mind that signing Park was a big mistake, and that optioning him would be in everyone's best interests at this point. On the plus side, there's one fewer player blocking Sano's permanent move to right field.
  13. Probably because Arcia is day to day with a bad foot or something. Park needs to be sent down, though.
  14. Park won't be traded for two reasons. International free agents may not want to play for the Twins if they think they might get traded halfway into their first season. Also, if he traded Park, TR would be admitting that his one offseason move was a head scratcher that only compounded a logjam problem. It's completely true, but the GM would never admit that mistake.
  15. I think it's naive to believe Ortiz started doping only after going to Boston. I'm sure he had friends in the Red Sox organization long before he played there. And cheating among Twins players, I'm sure, was much more rampant than we would like to believe. If Ortiz was the kind of guy to juice as a Red Sawk, he was also the kind of guy to juice as a Twin.
  16. I think it's just as easy to obtain substances in Minnesota as it is in Massachusetts. There's certainly reason to question the legitimacy of his Red Sox numbers... but if he was cheating while he was a Sawk, he was most likely also cheating while he was a Twin.
  17. Some other teams had the chance to pick him up, and it was their mistake that they didn't. But that mistake is nowhere near as bad as having the guy and then cutting him loose in favor of Matt LeCroy. You can say what you want about Ortiz being injury prone, but he was never as severely out of shape as LeCroy was even in his younger playing days. Keep in mind that Ortiz was on the DL for a long while because of a broken hamate bone, which is a fluky and non-chronic injury. The Twins would never say it, but I believe they cut Ortiz because he didn't "fit the system."
  18. It's an interesting idea, but the guy to replace DSP would either be 1) bringing in all his own people anyway, or 2) a Twins crony who would maintain the status quo.
  19. Some work needs to be done to clean up the roster. The team is too bad to have logjam issues. No mention of Arcia?
  20. Let's assume that a major reason this team is as bad as they are is that they lack leadership. How come in the past 20 years the Twins have not developed or otherwise acquired a team leader not named Torii Hunter?
  21. I'm not saying trading for Trout would necessarily be a good thing. If the Angels made Trout available, some GM would trade for him, cost be damned. That is to say, there are GMs out there who would think the cost would be worth it, and I can't be certain that they would be wrong. I just can't envision TR even making that phone call, even if the Twins had a full-to-bursting minor league system and were a CF away from being a world series contender.
  22. The Twins are several Mike Trouts away from being relevant. The sad thing is that, no matter what position the Twins and their minor league system is in, Trout is too good. The Twins under Ryan would never trade for that kind of proven talent. Ever.
  23. Handicapping the Twins GM search: Rob Antony 2-1 Brad Steil 7-2 Ron Gardenhire 5-1 Wayne Krivsky 12-1 Jack Goin 30-1 Andy McPhail 40-1 Nick Punto 50-1 The Field 99-1
  24. That's the problem with having so many big time prospects on the 40 man. In years past they could call up a Wilkin Ramirez or a Darin Mastroianni to sit in the bench. None of those types are on the 40 man roster, though.
  25. When it's been 10 days since Kepler was sent down, because I imagine that's who would be replacing Rosario.
