  1. Maybe his 2014 was a combination of a hot streak and teams being unfamiliar with him in the division. He did tail off later in the season. It could be they're defending him better and pitching him more effectively. I think if you take away the opposite field single from Zuke, he's pretty well Nerfed.
  2. It's like TR taking one spin on the penny slots. Of course, this particular slot machine pays out in stuff he already has in abundance.
  3. I've seen all I need to from Graham and Pressly. The Twins don't seem to be big believers themselves in Tonkin, or he would have stuck on the roster by now. Tonkin reminds me of Anthony Slama in that regard. Then you have Meyer, whose professional career is at a serious crossroads. If the Twins want to go with internal options to fill the bullpen, I can get behind that. It just seems to me like they could kick away half a season with their suspect relievers until they get around to the real prospects.
  4. Based on what TR is saying, Abad, who was brought in on a minor league deal, is essentially a lock to make the roster.
  5. Nolasco will get a month or two to pitch himself out of the rotation. Duffey will start in AAA. Book it.
  6. He's never going to walk much, but I think he's got the quick hands and plate coverage to put up a more respectable OBP by striking out less.
  7. Closers and to a lesser extent LOOGYs are the only relievers that get a routine. Think about Trevor May and what his role will be out of the bullpen. He's going to have to start the 7th sometimes, or come in to face a big right-handed hitter, or come in during the middle of an inning to put out a fire. He might even get a spot start or two. In other words, he's got to be ready to pitch whenever. Hearing Perk say that he was uncomfortable outside of his normal role when he pitched himself out of it... yeah, it comes off a little whiny.
  8. I would still sign Bastardo. If some of these relievers on the farm graduate, then Bastardo won't block them. I would also cite an idiom about not counting chickens before they hatch.
  9. Maybe if Mauer goes into broadcasting after he retires, giving him a soapbox to cry and whine about how Fergie Jenkins is in and that Mauer is at least as good as Jenkins. I don't think Joe has the voice or personality to be a broadcaster, though.
  10. Assuming the Twins don't (can't) trade Nolasco, he's in the rotation over Duffey. Or maybe they tell Ricky that his ankle hurts and DL him.
  11. The Twins need Buxton to establish himself as a lead-off type hitter. They have too many low-OBP, high-strikeout hitters and adding Park won't help fix it.
  12. If you take the dearth of bullpen arms out of the equation, the guy who is blocking May from a rotation spot is by definition the fifth best guy in the rotation. That may be a moot point if your (and the Twins') plan is for May to be a reliever long-term, as in for the rest of his Twins career.
  13. I'm reading the responses here and somehow the discussion became "Who should be in the bullpen - Milone or May." As if Milone to the rotation means May to the bullpen or vice versa. There are two reasons that May would be put in the bullpen and neither involve Tommy Milone. 1. Lack of bullpen options. This goes without saying, although there are free agents to be had and trades that could be made. 2. Ricky Nolasco's contract. The Twins would tell you that they're paying Nolasco too much money to not start him. I think we can (probably) agree that Nolasco is the weak link in the rotation, not Milone.
  14. Keep in mind that Revere has no power and does not walk.
  15. Converting him back to a starter mid-season isn't so easy. When the Twins needed a starter last year, May was ruled out because he wasn't stretched out. I think what's most disappointing is that the Twins traded Span and Revere to try to get front-line starters. But now Meyer is a bust, and although May has shown promise as a starter, he's being squeezed out of the rotation in an alleged numbers crunch.
  16. I would add Duffey to the list of regression candidates. I guess I don't expect him to be a front-runner for the Cy Young.
  17. I don't see any holes. We're locked and loaded. Nolasco will be the comeback player of the year. We've got top relief prospects breaking down the door, so no reason to shop for bullpen help. No concern at all that Arcia's 2015 is a trend. And outfield defense is overrated anyway.
  18. As a Hicks fan, I would have rather kept him and got a catcher some other way. I think he did start to figure it out, and I'm concerned that he may have been made available simply because some coaches lost their patience with him. All that said, I'm willing to give Murphy a chance and I think that declaring the trade a loss at this point is extremely short-sighted.
  19. What were the A's asking for? It could be very different than what the Twins would want for Plouffe. I doubt the Twins would ask for a couple ho-hum minor league pitchers. Bear in mind that for all the problems they've had, the Athletics have been pretty good at identifying pitching talent. Better than the Twins have, certainly. Maybe Billy Beane knows something about these guys that the White Sox and us don't.
  20. I don't see what good it does anyone to run Santana out in CF while pushing Buxton back down to the minors... it's a loss defensively and a wash offensively. Santana could use more time in the minors too. If we really need Buck to work things out in the minors, then we need a real CF in the meantime. I'm not interested in crossing our fingers that Danny will be so cozy in the outfield that he can recapture his implausible, fluky 2014 numbers.
  21. Santana playing CF was a fluke. That is, unless you believe that center field to D.San was a security blanket that was worth a .300 point difference in OPS.
  22. I like Hicks better than Murphy. Nothing against Murphy who I think can be a decent catcher, but I believe Hicks really did find himself this last season. I hope the Twins didn't give up on Hicks because they just didn't like him.
  23. Even if the Twins were to somehow acquire the reincarnation of Brad Radke, there's no way he'd be pitching 230 innings a season. They just wouldn't do that anymore. Holding up contemporary pitchers to that standard is simply unfair.
  24. Any way you look at it, it's really kinda both.
  25. I would fire Molitor and hire Gardy today. Not really, though. What does it say about Gary's reputation that he hasn't been able to land a manager job? If he was the front-runner for the Padres at one point, why did he fall behind? LEN3 had a blog recently that said Gary would want to bring in Andy and Scott Ullger. Maybe his demands are unrealistic.
