. What impresses me the most about Jenkins right now is his plate discipline. It's a good foundation to work from. Jenkins should not be rushed. He needs to dominate on each level before he's promoted. It's better for Jenkins & there's no absolute need for him so take it slow.

Of course, Royce is our ace in the hole. I expect Steward to come back as good as ever like before. If Topa comes back he should be used in lower-leverage until he proves he can handle higher-leverage. But like Pagan, Jorge Lopez & Colume', this FO will put him in the spotlight which never works out. Varland's problem is his secondary stuff, his primary stuff has never been in doubt by me. So his stuff will most certainly work at least 1X through the order. Both Martin & Kiriloff probably won't make the roster when they heal up, which is a crying shame. Martin & Kiriloff's problems were due to minor injuries, not mechanics, They need the playing time & the Twins need them on the field. This is very much a seller's market, it'd be prudent to trade any veterans on expiring contracts (NYY & HOU need a 1Bman, PHIL & LAD need a OFer) & make room for our superior younger players who'll make up our future. Besides it'll free up money to be better used elsewhere. We can get to the dance (bar any major injury to our catching & top rotation core) with what we have got but to advance IMO we need a set-up LHRP & a top-tier potential SP. I'd trade Gonzales as a primary trade piece because he's peaked in trade value & will trend down from now on & he has no path to MLB with us.

I'm willing to trade away Gonzales who IMO has topped out as far as trade value & will be trending downhill & he has no path to our MLB team. He should bring someone interesting, All these bring some risk & a steep price tag. I really don't think we need a RHRP even if it's a Robertson or a Yates. Eovaldi & Scherzer's post-season experience is tempting. I think Scherzer has a no-trade clause that I believe he'll use against any MN offers.

Minnesota Could Save a Blue Jays Starter
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Kikuchi is a good SP but IMO if we are going for a SP he needs to be top tier otherwise bring up Varland to help support the pitching in long relief/ spot start. Varland still hasn't established his secondary pitches but he still has great stuff to fit in this role. Varland would be a lifesaver to keep the BP & rotation fresh. Especially Festa, Paddack & sometimes SWR, Thielbar has shown some improvement but I still wouldn't trust any of our LHRPs in a high-leverage situation where picking up a better LHRP would be prudent.- 110 replies

CWS have been our best friend, giving us wins & gain wins against our nemesis (they have a much better record against CLE). A nice game for Paddack to get back in the saddle. Twins battled & won & gain a game on CLE. A good win. Go Twins!

I've heard they are open to offers. Scherzer is sure a wild card, I doubt he'll go anywhere unless a favorite. He's not coming to MN yet it'd be nice if he would.

It's like putting on War Paint. You want to personalize it & show intimidation, at least in your own mind. To get off the subject a little, "lead all of baseball with 64 HBPs" Why do you think that is so?

Trevor Larnach Can Unlock a New Level
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Larnach has been a surprise & a lifesaver. I didn't think he was going to make that adjustment but he did. With (LHHs) Wallner & Julien down due to adjustments, Kiriloff injured now, Kepler streaky & Keirsey stuck in AAA we absolutely need Larnach's LH bat. Once they fix Wallner & Julien, try to keep Kiriloff healthy & free up Keirsey, I'm afraid Larnach could become expendable because he'd be on the bottom of the totem pole & he has some trade value.- 20 replies

A broken back normally means spinal cord injury, fractured vertebrae is a different thing & lumbar stress reaction is another. If we trade for Luzardo (as I suggested) he becomes Twins's property therefore Paparesta becomes his trainer. I was not aware of stress reaction related to Sano & I couldn't find anything related. But I'm glad you stated that stress reaction isn't an acute type of injury.

Week in Review: Miranda Mania
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Like I've said from the beginning we have a great core (counter to what many have thought), a line-up that can really hit! Young players that are ready to really set the field on fire once given enough regular playing time. Not to mention Lewis or Larnach, Lee was born MLB-ready & hit the ground running. Miranda has played enough to start to rake but when Lewis comes back he'll play less & he deserves to play much more. Martin has played fine but he has been played sporadically & bats against RHP only. He needs to play more regularly for him to really get the feel of MLB. Wallner is locked & loaded & has shown surprising fielding talent. Kiriloff was mashing until OF had the best of him. Julien can rake once straighten out. Then we have Keirsey, who is long over-due to get his chance at MLB & Severino are mashing at AAA. I'm dying to see how they do. Some say that these guys aren't ready to play regularly & we needed Farmer, Margot & Santana but I beg to differ. these guys are ready to turn the MLB on its ear. Dump these guys & finally let these young guys loose. We were fortunate that Desclavani didn't stay limping around the mound blocking us to see how good SWR is, that Varland isn't ready for SP, he's needed in the BP & Festa a chance to get his feet wet & light a fire under him. -
Week in Review: Miranda Mania
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great job again Nick. I think it funny that the 2 games we lost was against HOU's BP game & DET's Montero which I thought would turn into a BP game but Montero surprised us & went 6+ innings. I advocated bringing up Varland to be available in long relief to help in case Festa needed to be bailed out, which he did & our BP blew up. I feel that there were so many ways we should have won that HOU heart-breaking game. One was having Varland available in long relief when Lopez was laboring instead of Winder & Funderburk. "Even the catchers have been heating up at the plate – Ryan Jeffers and Christian Vázquez combined to go 10-for-23 with two doubles and three homers, with Vázquez delivering a stunning walk-off blast on Sunday." I think it interesting that 2 of the 3 HRs were hit by Vazquez & Vazquez has out-hit Jeffers in the last month & a half or so including Jeffers recent rally. -
I do not doubt your knowledge, What I object is how you spin it. Broken back! Give me a break! The chronic stress of the bones if over-aggressively ramped up. I believe you left off if. Again there is no rush to ramp him up & I'm sure Paparesta will see to it.

SWR didn't have control over his command in the beginning but hung in tough to finish strong. There was never any doubt in my mind that Lee was a MLer, & he showed it again today, Wallner looked really well both at the plate & in the field. I'm pumped for Vazquez who knocked in all 3 runs, Staumant had another superb outing this time in a higher-leverage spot. It's not unusual for a TOS pitcher to pitch a good inning after recovering but not much after 1 & I wouldn't press him. It's great finally winning a close game after losing so many lately. The policy is probably to stick in Margot whenever there is an LHP opportunity. Pitch-hitting Margot always backfires. I advocated trading Margot when he was doing alright, but now it's too late. We can still trade Santana before he regresses too much.
