  1. Twins bullpen should be ready tomorrow and the Twins bats that like fastballs get their chance against Gavin Williams. Twins need 5-6 good innings from SWR tomorrow. Varland was pretty tough tonight. It was a little bit of a strange game but one of the more exciting contests thus far. Bullpen was awesome. Great day for the Twins. Still need the bats to get hot.
  2. Hoping for a sellout tomorrow. I was a little disappointed in the attendance tonight. Great but crazy game. Who knew, Richards our closer in G2?
  3. 5 DP and Lewis thrown out at second with four missed plays on defense for MN and two missed plays for Cleveland .... and still a very good game. Yeh?
  4. If a team focuses on offense at the expense of defense, then more runs need to be scored.
  5. Tough for Varland. Yes, he missed to Josh but four outs needed to be made that were not and when you have a young dude like Varland on the mound those plays need to get made.
  6. The bats need to crush soon. Cobb looks very hittable and Cleveland has their best relievers rested and waiting. Torch Cobb now.
  7. I'm guessing $3M, plus or minus .5M. Tops. Lewis would have to put up huge numbers in the next seven weeks to put up a case for more money. Jeffers got $2.45M with better numbers. Hopefully Lewis is the player of the week every week until the season ends and he gets more money.
  8. What does the budget say? The Twins will likely offer $2.5-3.0M in arb for Lewis. Jeffers received just under $2.5M for this year in arb 1. I think arb works on numbers and not per game or perceived talent. In any event, Lewis is bound to Minnesota for four years after this year if BaseballProspectus is correct. The Twins will go year to year with Royce simply because it is the prudent decision. In a corollary look, many people on Twins Daily (not me) have commented that the Buxton signing was a mistake because Byron has had trouble playing a significant number of games. Lewis may fall in a similar talent range with thoughts of great production but it seems unlikely that a mid market team would gamble on two guys at the same time. Having said that, it isn't my money so go ahead and give him a big contract along with everyone else.
  9. He has been better in the last two starts and was very impressive in his recent start. FWIW, I based my initial thoughts on an opponents' batting average near .250 at the time and seeing teams hit the ball pretty square. I'm not down on Tanner Hall but until last night he has not been dominant. Pitching takes time and he is clearing getting better. He is, for sure, an interesting prospect.
  10. This is a reasonable question when one considers that Lewis played quite a bit of shortstop in the minor leagues. However, Royce has never been even adequate as a shortstop and is mostly a DH right now until such time as his legs are whole. The Twins face a little bit of a short term issue. Someone needs to hold down SS until Correa gets back. Castro has done a decent job at the position but is more suited for LF or 2B. If Lee cannot throw he likely needs an IL stint. Farmer can no longer play shortstop though. It will be interesting to see how the Twins navigate the next two weeks.
  11. Heh, heh - Tanner Hall just had his best pitching performance of the year. So .... timely article.
  12. Yes, I know. Just curious - have you watched him pitch? I just gave my opinion from watching several times.
  13. We will just agree to disagree on that trade. Polanco's money wasn't much more than DeSclafani, Topa, and Margot. Falvey wasn't willing to attach another bat or arm to entice a good offer; there were opportunities. In any event the roster was put together by Falvey and he wanted to free up 2B for Julien, knowing there were others who could also play the position. If money needed to be scuttled so badly, Farmer and Thielbar were easy calls to save $10 million.
  14. Have watched him pitch a few times (milb.com) but Hall has not been too impressive. He hasn't missed many bats. Still plenty of time to develop as a pitcher. Great article though and he certainly is a pitcher to keep an eye on.
  15. Well, the failure to trade for a decent starting pitcher was actually Falvey & Crew's fault. There were deals to be made and identifying DeSclafani as the choice was ridiculous. If you are referring to the failures of signing a free agent like Blake Snell or others, then your point may make some sense. Sonny Gray was never resigning here though and most of the others (some have produced) would have been poor choices.
  16. The baseball season is long and conditioning always plays a role eventually. The vagaries of risk associated with pitching just exasperates health concerns. However, every pitcher is different and thus faces separate challenges. Pablo has to find a way of avoiding little breakdowns of command. I'm still surprised that anyone thought Paddack would ever get past 125 innings. Ober looks like he should be strong throughout the year. Pitchers can suffer tweaks like Ryan did yesterday and return healthy after a few weeks off. It is looking like the Twins will need Festa and Varland to step forward while continuing to get 5 innings each start from Woods Richardson. Reaching down for starts from Matthews or Morris might be tough. This is the time for the hitters to step forward with a much more sustained attack mode. If the bats are going to score 2-3 runs a game, then the Twins may be in trouble. I am expecting a better approach at the plate across the board. Only Castro and Santana are among the top 100 in baseball with ABs. The position players should be fresh enough to pick up the slack for the pitching staff.
  17. I watched the Wichita game and Morris looked really good. I'm not sure he can jump to MLB.
  18. Time for Kepler and Jeffers to lead.
  19. I'm glad you are so high on Royce. Maybe compare apples to apples though. Witt Jr. has 100+ PA every month. He hit .489 in July. Lewis has 143 PA for the 2024 year. If Lewis ever puts up the numbers Witt Jr. has this year, right now, the Twins and all of us will be ecstatic. I will grant you that Royce has had a few games or a week when he was spectacular. You have to go back to Tony Oliva for a Twin who did as many things as well as Witt Jr. and the KC shortstop is just getting started ... and Oliva was not a shortstop. In any event, I'm glad you are a fan of Lewis, I am too.
