I have seen three innings in the last 8 days. One inning a week ago, Taylor just looks pathetic attempting bunting and then strikes out, the next guy hits a deep fly that would have scored a runner on third with a successful bunt. In the bottom of the inning there is a single up the middle and he overruns the ball for no reason, which allows the batter to get to 2nd and then scores because of it. Game lost because of those two plays. Today, Jax comes in and gives up a loopy line drive to lead off the 8th in a 2-0 game. Taylor, who just entered for defensive purposes, jogs over to the ball, casually fields it, takes a few extra steps for no reason and the guy takes 2nd and eventually scores because of it. Game lost. I watched the 9th and yeah, if Duran fields that ball, turns double play and the game is over but that play wasn't for lack of trying. Maybe I should just stop watching Taylor when he plays but it has just looked like low effort sloppy play on his part that has cost us two games.

Yes. This. 88 mph doesn't seem like a lot but they have identified a minimum velocity in order for him to be effective and he is there or slightly better. His numbers in the minors certainly justify a shot so this is no charity case. Might be just the shot in the arm we need. 6th starter or long relief as needed.

Exactly my thoughts. So often there has been talk of we need an ace or we need to rent an ace. We had arguably the best pitcher in baseball for a well below market one year deal. He said he wouldn't waive his no trade clause during mid season but that could well have been a negotiating stance and I am guessing if the Twins were tanking in 2008 he would have welcomed a trade to a contender. As it was we played a game 163 which we lost but if we had Santana it is very likely we would have won the division outright. Yes, we would have been the underdogs again in the playoffs but with an ace like him it is not so far fetched that we could have done well. For starters we wouldn't have played the Yankees in the first round. This to me was the worst trade. Ramos for Capps hurt a bit. The Herr for Brunansky was a good one on paper. Who knew the guy was going to be such a putz?

Should the Twins Shop a Young Corner Bat?
Dantes929 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Have always wondered if Polanco would have gotten that deal done. Of course, if Polanco was healthy and raking we would probably be talking a different tune.- 54 replies

Should the Twins Shop a Young Corner Bat?
Dantes929 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If they have a log jam of left handed outfielders the logical strategy would be to find a team with a log jam of right handed outfielders and do an even trade of one or two. Not connected to this thread much but Kiriloff is the guy I want at the plate in a tight situation and here is something I am guessing few are aware of. Julien has a better OPS and OPS + than Arraez. Granted, I would like to have them both but does Julien get his chance if we don't lose Arraez?- 54 replies

Did the Twins Lose the Jose Berrios Trade
Dantes929 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think there are a few more. Dozier, Span, Ryan and Santana come to mind. Well, you've got those. You've got the Ramos for Capps kind of trades where we have given up an eventual all star for a failed veteran. What have we gotten when we HAVE given up prospects for an established player who then played well? I know I am missing some and maybe a lot of them but Graterol for Maeda is all that really comes to mind and the jury is out on that one. We didn't get much for Hicks. Got so so return on Gomez, Revere and Span.. I do remember wanting to trade prospect Sano when he was top 10 prospect but I wanted to trade him for one of the shortstops that were also top 10 prospects so that doesn't count. Very obviously not all prospects work out. My personal preference is building from within. I used to follow the minor leagues very closely and got a lot more excited about a guy i had been following for a couple of years making it to the Bigs than I was getting a free agent. Just me.- 62 replies

Did the Twins Lose the Jose Berrios Trade
Dantes929 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins also could have traded Liriano, Santana, Mauer, Ryan, Morneau, Cuddyer, Perkins, Polanco, Rosario, Radke and many others at some point while they were still prospects. . I mean, I like the idea of only trading prospects that didn't end up amounting to anything in exchange for stars who then also played like stars for us. Sounds simple.- 62 replies

Did the Twins Lose the Jose Berrios Trade
Dantes929 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No. This is just anecdotal evidence. Joe Ryan was just a prospect. Duran was just a prospect. Glad we didn't trade Kiriloff who was just a prospect. Graterol was just a prospect. I feel like we have traded a lot of prospects away that did well in exchange for established major league contributors who then flopped once they put on a Twins uniform. It cuts every which way. Not all prospects turn out to be stars but every star was once a prospect. Maybe if we kept Berrios we don't get Gray, and I would rather have Gray at this point.- 62 replies

I was thinking the same thing. They showed a session from when he was about 89 but let's stick with 1 mph. If you subtracted 1 mph from every Brad Radke fastball in his career would he still be a Twins HOFer or would he be Brad who?

The pieces are still there for a good offense. Pitching is pretty good. Almost all winning seasons for the Twins have been about treading water and then having a couple hot streaks. I can't imagine the next 9 games knocking them out of contention. If they lose most of them then it will just be a good time for the All Star break. Some years I have been frustrated by the Break because of how well the team was playing. Some years it has been welcome as a reset.

We haven't had Polanco, Miranda, Correa, Buxton, Kiriloff, and Lewis on the field at the same time much less hitting like they are capable. Baseball is a game of streaks and if they can stay healthy I feel pretty good about the lineup's potential. Sadly, when I saw the headline of this post the player I thought of immediately was Arraez. He would do wonders for this offense.

Should The Twins Make A Swap At Third Base?
Dantes929 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You bet on the magic. The lineup with talent would include Correa, Buxton, Kiriloff, Lewis, Miranda, Polanco, and Jeffers. I don't believe Miranda, suddenly lost the talent to hit. He will be back to middle of the order. I can't believe what we have seen from Buxton and Correa is what we will continue to see either. -

Twins 7, Brewers 5: A Twins Win to Remember!
Dantes929 replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for that post. I haven't watched that many games but lately it has felt like if they have the lead and the statistical likelihood of winning when I have checked in they have ended up losing and that when they have been behind as you have stated they have come back and won. Nice to know the feeling matches up with the reality. Did any of our losses have a high win probability during the game?- 51 replies

Does it Matter How the Twins Reach the Postseason?
Dantes929 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No. Tons of teams have gotten hot and surprised people in October. Besides which if they get into the playoffs they will by default have achieved my minimum goal for an enjoyable season which is to be playing meaningful games through September.- 31 replies

I said it was a good throw. Watch again. You don't think most outfielders get rid of it more quickly? He caught it, double clutched it, then took his crow hop. It's not like he had to change directions or guage the bounce of a ball. He couldn't have thrown it any better but yeah, I absolutely think he could have got rid of it quicker. Shallow fly ball that was closer than it should have been.

Yeah, I know he was out at home. I also know it was a good throw right on the money. Anyone else think Beckham wasted time with delivering it home? That crow hop should be made as he is catching the ball rather than taking the time after the catch. Basically saying that throw could have beat the runner by an extra 5 feet easy. Everyone yesterday was talking about fundamentals when I was thinking they were most just physical errors. This was more along the lines of fundamental mistake, imo.

I wasn't speaking to your larger question of intentional walk number but the individual situation. If you end up walking both those guys you are going to face Urshela and Arraez. Cave to me is a no brainer because he strikes out a lot and you have a strikeout pitcher. You strike him out (and actually get the out) and numbers change. There are definitely situations where I would walk guys so I am surprised by your stats but last night would not be exhibit A for intentionally walking guys. As far as walks go I think players don't work on it as much but also I think it is just tougher to hit a 98mph fastball than the 92mph that guys used to face. On the flip side, the only thing worse than major league players executing a sacrifice bunt is major league teams defending sacrifice bunts so kind of a wash for me.

I trust analytics on this if they were used. Cave strikes out a third of the time. Romero strikes out 12/9 innings pitched. He in fact did strike out Cave here but just had the bad luck of the strike out ending up on first and advancing the runner. Now you have a weak hitter who also strikes out a fair amount of time in Beckham. If you walk him, now you have a pitcher who walks almost 4/9 innings with a wild pitch also in play. Plus you have a batter who knows a walk wins the game so knows you have to throw strikes. Just think of how it played out. Cave struck out. Beckham grounded into what should have been an easy fielder's choice. It wasn't the strategy by the Jays that was lacking. It was the execution.

No loss on position players. I know we want depth but Miranda, Polanco and Arraez should be main stays for the next several years. I am on board.

Minnesota’s Forgotten Home Run Derby Champ
Dantes929 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Morneau played 163 games that year plus the Home Run Derby plus the All Star game. His last month plus was pretty bad and the Twins lost in game 163. Even at the time I was wishing he wouldn't join the Derby and that Gardy would give him a couple days off. With a strong last month from Morneau the Twins probably don't need game 163 and Morneau has a pretty good shot at his 2nd MVP. If you consider Morneau was also cruising to MVP in 2010 before the concussion at the midway point, his path to Cooperstown was more obvious than Mauer's.
