What Happens to the Twins Emerging Star?
Brandon replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Miranda can try LF. Its not like Larnarch or Rooker have claimed it yet. But those three can vie for LF next spring. Also someone can get hurt giving Miranda an opportunity and he can also be a super utility player and play LF, 3B DH and 1B and since he has options can spend some time in the minors. He may not get 500+ AB in the majors but 400 between the majors and minors is possible with close to 300 of those appearances in the majors.- 52 replies

I have seen several overtures to Pineda wanting to stay in Minnesota. That is a hard find in the market and with our need of several starting pitchers, we should take a good look at what it should take to resign the veteran. Here is the article from MlbTraderumors.com I just saw which spurred this blog post. Baldelli Hopes Pineda Will Return To Twins In 2022 - MLB Trade Rumors. I would think its either a 1 or 2 year contract. Since we need money in the budget to sign others its probably in the 8-12 million base guarantee per season. There should be incentives for IP. The size of the guarantee will determine what the incentives should be. I think that with incentives should be able to make in 13-15 million range if he hits 180 innings and that should max out his incentives as he likely will not reach 200 innings. So for my guess I will go with a 2 year 22 million contract with 500,000 incentives starting at 120 innings, 140 innings, 160 innings and 180 innings. for a possible 13 million per season. Do you think he will resign with the Twins and if so how much?

40-man roster decisions, part 1: position players

40-man roster decisions, part 1: position players
Brandon commented on Squirrel's blog entry in In My Opinion
I see Gordon as a .270 / .310 / .380 type of hitter. I don't think he could pay SS more then as a utility player and even then he is stretched. He seems solid in the OF to me as a back up. He has speed. He can also play in the IF. He is an ideal back up player in my book. He is a AAAA player but not like the traditional AAAA player and that makes him a back up. He is like 85-90% across the board with major league speed. He can also regress quickly from his current talent level and that will always be worrisome. He doesn't have much of a ceiling beyond this. Gordon had a nice run. but so did refsnyder. Lets see if Gordon can do that again next year. He has definitely earned the chance to show he is a good back up player. -

Rooker has options. You keep him for depth in AAA in case of injury. He can be a 1B, DH, RF -
40-man roster decisions, part 1: position players

correct. I thought i did add Miranda too it. How I added Larnach twice is beyond me. -
Wells and Baddoo were both MIA the last 2 seasons. I get why they were left off. Between the 2 I would have protected Wells if he was throwing mid 90s before the decision had to be made. but its not like these two players will end up being as good and Shane Mack and Johan Santana. The Twins have a history of doing well in the rule 5 draft. It figures we would get hit sometime.

40-man roster decisions, part 1: position players
Brandon commented on Squirrel's blog entry in In My Opinion
From the position player side of things, I see the Twins keeping: Jeffers Sano Polanco Donaldson Larnarch Buxton Kepler Killeroff Arraez Garver Miranda Gordon Rooker Garlik Rortvedt Celestino Lewis maybe Astudillo Full disclosure: Just edited this list to remove double add of Larnach and add Miranda. I do think this would be better with pitchers instead of just hitters so we know the number of slots to use. I would stop at either 35 or 36 and leave room for offseason signings. -
The 2021 Twins Are the Most Disappointing Team Since…
Brandon replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
1993 and 2011 tie. Back in 1993 there wasn't much info available about the minors. You had to wait fir baseball weekly to give you a weekly snippit of info. So we didnt really kniw hiw bad our farm system was back then. In 2011 it was in plain sight and we were completely blindsided by our inability to compete. With this season it feels we are just a few players away from competing again.- 21 replies

Week in Review: Small Victories
Brandon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with mikelink that Cave hasn't done anything to help his case to remain on the team for next season. I do think the Twins will give Rooker more chances to figure out major league pitching. Cruz was 28 when he took off. Ibanez was 29 if you remember him. Max gives up more homers per 9 then Blylevin ever could. I am beginning to think its bullpen or bust for him. But I suspect they will give him starting chances into next year. The thing that is most exciting to me about Ober is his consistency and control. Almost a Radke clone this way. That's who I think of with his results. My concern with Ryan is secondary pitches. He will need them. And Cleveland is close to us in runs scored and we are 6th. So they are more of an average offense Nick. But I am so much more optimistic going into the offseason. I guess part if it is because how well They put together a revamped bullpen on the fly and its been successful. That makes our big holes going into the offseason, 1. Extend or trade Buxton. 2. SS 3. 2 starting pitchers. Maybe a third cause you can never have too much pitching.- 12 replies

Where Do the Twins Depth Arms Stand?
Brandon replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We only need to add 2 starters for next season. Pineda is 1 on a 2 year 24 million. And the other can come on a 20-25 AAV contract or trade. That gives us a rotation of 1. FA or trade pitcher, 2. Pineda, 3. Gant, 4. Ober, 5. Ryan with Dobnak as 6 and then Jax, Barnes, Smeltzer.....Around the Allstar break or even before.... Balazovich Winder and Richardson-Woods could be ready. Lots of depth and pitchers who can hold their own. Sign Chris Taylor for SS. Then watch a healthy lineup score 7-8 runs a night and win games 7-5- 29 replies

End of the Line for Brent Rooker?
Brandon replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No one has claimed LF and Sano is a possible FA after next season. Rooker was a 1 round draft pick of this regime. They will keep him and give him chances. -

Where Do the Twins Depth Arms Stand?
Brandon replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There were lots of injuries for pitchers this year. So what I would do is let Thorpe walk. He has had other issues outside of injuries and I think its likely time for him to move on. Smeltzer I would take off the 40 man roster but try to sign him to a minor league/ split deal with a major league spring training invite. He seems to have enough to be a long reliever / spot starter. I would give him the chance to reclaim that role. Gant and Dobnak are 5th starter / long reliever Barnes is back in AAA and off the 40 man if we need the space. Jax is a reliever or in AAA as a 6,7,8th starter. Stays on the 40 man. Stashak gets another shot. again this comes down to 40 man roster spots available. I would offer the same thing I offered Smeltzer, a split contract with spring training invite. That is 3 remaining on the 40 man with a potential 4th and 2 for sure off it.- 29 replies

Who Survives the Twins Pen Shakeup?
Brandon replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Colone is a 4 million decision after the buyout is accounted for. They will likely bring him back. The question is will they get a closer too? I think there are several good options to bring back next year. Barraclough, Garza Jr, Minaya, Coloumbe, Farrell, Vincent, Stashak, I would bring back as many as we can and offer split contracts to those we remove from the 40 man roster.- 30 replies

At 1004 Ks, Sano is only 7 Ks behind team mate Donaldson on the career chart. Donaldson has 2400 more ABs. Also Reggie Jackson is the all time strikeout leader with 2597 with former Twin Jim Thome second with 2548.

Three Starting Pitchers to Trade for this Winter
Brandon replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I still think we only need 2 starters. Ober and Ryan take 2 spots then 1 of Dobnak or Gant or if he is still around Thorpe to compete for the 5th spot this 5th spot is fluid as Balazovich and Winder will deserve opportunities next year as will Woods-Richardson. Resign Pineda and spend money on a good starter in FA or trade. The risk a are Pineda injury and Ryan takes a step back. Ober is the most consistent pitcher with good control. Like Radke, he will be fine as a 4th starter. For us to be a winning team we can do it with an average rotation, a slightly above average bullpen and an offense in the top 3 in runs scored.- 29 replies

Three Starting Pitchers to Trade for this Winter
Brandon replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If we trade for pitching, I prefer we trade for an established starter. We already have enough projects. We only need to resign Pineda and a good starter for our rotation. Especially if Ryan continues to show he is a major league pitcher.- 29 replies

If Sano can stay healthy and play into his 40s, He has a shot at the elusive 3,000th career strikeout.

I remember the time they got to Aguilera when he was carrying luggage. That was the year he tried to be a starting pitcher for us. Lucky for us cause he went back to being an all star closer for us the next season. But injured by luggage....

We keep Donaldson. He will be a bargain in the 5th year of his contract. With 8 million already committed its an 8 million decision. I bet at that cost they keep him through year 5. And I expect us to be competetive next year. We are only 2 starting pitchers away from a rotation with depth. And maybe a reliever. Our offense just needs health and we are back to winning. I do want to add we are 20 -22 since the July 31rst trade deadline and that is after we traded Berrios and Cruz. We are closer than our record appears.
-
it seems Gil's floor is solid reliever. 6 years of that from what we got from Cave is a victory for the Yankees. But not by as much as you would think. If Gil remains in the rotation as a 3rd, 4th or 5th starter. Then its a huge win for the Yankees. but not earth ending for us. we have lots of pitching prospects who are getting close. Ryan, Ober, Gant and Dobnak give us an uninspiring floor for next year. so having Gil be someone in the back of the rotation after the league gets a chance to know him...... is that really what we need or a number 1 or 2 starter?
-
If Ryan is ready for the show moving forward as is Ober, Pineda signing is like having an extra Dobnak and Gant at the ready for the 5th spot in the rotation. I think he is good for 20 - 25 starts we have enough prospects coming that someone will get opportunities because he can't stay on the field. but when he does start he will give you average results. with an above average offense and pen that equals more wins then loses.
