  1. Dozier is still leading the American League in Runs scored. He deserves to make it. Suzuki is leading the AL Catchers in OPS among qualified players Hughes is trending in the right direction but he will need 10+ wins to get there and a low ERA. Fien could deserve a spot if his ERA gets down to around 1.00. that's when the middle relievers make it or if they have a ridiculous strike out rate which Fien does not. Perkins crazy strike out to walk rate. Left handed power closer. I would want him in my pen if I was managing the all star team. Of these 5 I think Dozier, Suzuki, and Perkins have the best chance to make the team. I think its great that we have 5 players worth discussing if they deserve to make the all star team. If only we had a few more....
  2. I don't know of any with a rifle arm and an ability to have a .330 OBP. That type of on base percentage doesn't kill your line up and it looks like he just needs to tweak parts of his game. He is better than anyone suggested. If you are looking just to send Hicks down, I agree with The suggestions for Cubs utility player, St Louis guys and a guy we already have up in Santana. If we make Santana the starter we could sign Juan Pierre to back up. He'll hit like crap and has a bad arm but can run and doesn't cost anything in terms of talent.
  3. I just hope he figures it out before his contract is up....We would be serious contenders if he was pitching like he is capable of. I guess part of it is the lack of range in the OF and the rest is up to him.
  4. I could see the Twins extend him another 2 seasons after this one if he is interested and he remains solid the rest of the season. I don't see a huge offer maybe 5-7 million for 2 seasons tops. I realize we have depth here, but you can never have too much pitching.
  5. I think Sizemore would be the 4th OF and if Hicks goes into another prolonged slump then he can take over while Hicks goes down. I think the Twins will want to see Hicks play a while to see if he has turned the corner with his current hot streak. I don't remember Hicks having hot streaks so he may be on to something.
  6. I think part of the frustration with Hicks is that we had another huge hole in the lineup with Florimon so we basically had 2 automatic outs in the lineup and with Florimon demoted Hicks gets even more attention now. Escobar is hitting .300+ and with Hicks at least walking his way to first (I guess that's easer than running) Its like we now have only half a hole in the lineup.
  7. I can see the Twins going either 8-7 or 9-6 if they get lucky during this stretch.
  8. Its my fault for the injuries happening to the prospects. I am Sparticus.
  9. Seven starters is good depth. with Gilmartin and by 2015 Barrios can enter the equation too. We'll have the pitching depth = to the depth we had that allowed us to trade Garza and Slowey in the same year soon.
  10. The more I think about it he is hitting close to a typical Mauer at Catcher so far this season. If he is still hitting like that at the All Star break, I say extend him for 2 season around 2/10-12 with incentives.
  11. I just logged in to post this exactly. If Willingham is ready after the allstar break then you could put Kubel instead of Colabello though right now Colabello is the one to go down. I say after the allstar break because Colabello needs to right his ship first and show he is a capable right-handed bat off the bench first. I will add that Herman is the weakest player so he goes back first. Then it comes down to Colabello or Kubel. then the back up CF Fuld replaces the current back up CF Santana. Unless Santana is showing he belongs to the point where Hicks needs to be demoted. But I think the Twins would prefer Santana to be playing everyday.
  12. The point of that idea is to show what the reality could be if we had an average .500 pitcher in those slots. We would likely be contenders at that point. so with Deduno and one of our AAA ptchers likely Meyer, we can replace Correia and Pelfry with 2 solid potentially .500 pitchers and contend this year.
  13. The OF defense will be good long term. Right now is a rare time in the last 20 years where their OF defense is worse then the rest of the league. that has more to do with the Twins selling high on a player both Span and Revere before their replacements were ready. Hicks can became a corner OF or 4th OF if he doesn't hit enough and Buxton will be a gold glove caliber player and Rosario and Arcia will be adequate. I think the hard part for our psyche is that the issue is CF. Outside of the Rich Becker days how long has it been since Minnesota had any type of issue in CF? Puckett, late 90's with Rich Becker and Otis Nixon, Torii Hunter, Gomez, Span, ....at least 1983.
  14. 4th OF with speed for a 5th starter/ bullpen arm. To me this trade is a wash, but that's because Worely imploded. He should have been serviceable similar to Corriea. Revere can still have seasons where he hits .300. but he was never an ideal full time starter. His arm is too weak and he has less than 0 power. Revere is perfect for the National league as he can have several uses off of the bench. pinch runner, pinch hitter for pitcher, and can play the OF. Still has the weakest arm in all of baseball which is what hurts him defensively more than anything.
  15. This will be more fun to revisit around the all star break when we are half way through the season. I definitely see 25/25. I am not fully convinced of either the speed or power for a 30/30 at this time.
  16. I say let it ride for another month or so. He is currently hitting like Joe Mauer so we did successfully replace Mauer's bat behind the plate for 1/10th the cost.....for now. but is all seriousness, Suzuki is not likely to keep up his current pace. But if he can hit .280 with a bunch of doubles and he is solid defensively then why not extend him for another season or 2. It's not like we have a bunch of options to replace him. other than Pinto who? or better yet I would rather have a Suzuki/ Pinto tandem then Pinto/ back up tandem. Suzuki seems to be well liked by the pitchers so I am ok with the extension. I don't think he would cost too much either 2 year for 10-12 million max.
  17. I disagree. The Twins can be competitive this season if they can get another starting pitcher to succeed and if Escobar is the answer at SS.
  18. The Twins are 18 - 12 when Pelfry and Corriea do not get a decision. They are 1-8. If the Twins went 4-5 instead, we are in the wild card lead and only a few games behind Detroit. If Escobar is the solution at SS and the Twins decide to platoon Hicks and Fuld in CF so as not to be too big a hole, that essentially puts the Twins 1 solid starting pitcher away from competing for the playoffs.
  19. If you can save money for an extension and buy out a year or two more, that's a reason to extend him. If he expects a contract closer to the 50 million the other 2 2B signed (Cleveland's and St Louis) then go year to year but the 30-35million + option year or 2 why not?
  20. What makes you think we are not competitive this season?
  21. He is definitely making the Liriano trade look like a steal. remember how upset we were at getting "spare parts" for Liriano.
  22. More people are stepping up and performing in different games instead of relying on a few to carry the team. That to me is our biggest improvement yet.
  23. We are currently 1 of 9 teams within a game and a half of the 2nd wild card spot. Knowing our major weaknesses can we fill them enough to be a contender this season? Our SS position went hitless in April causing a huge whole in the lineup. Escobar is currently at .347 with around 100 plate appearances. if he even hits.275 its a huge upgrade at that position. CF appears to be a patchwork of Hicks, Fuld, and Santana until something gets figured out. Still a black hole. but one hole is ok. Colabello has been slipping along with Kubel and Plouffe. Parmelee seems to be this months Colabello. Willingham is about a week or 2 away from coming back and Arcia is a phone call away, so we have internal options for offense. So on offense we really only need a CF who can hit and maybe a back up IF who can too. On pitching, Deduno has moved into the rotation and has been ok. Hughes has been excellent, Gibson is inconsistent after a good start, Nolasco has come on after a terrible start, and Corriea is nearing his last chance. Luckily we have several candidates who can come up and start games in Meyer, May, Darnell, and Johnson. The bullpen is a strength with depth in the minors too. We even have surplus players we can use in a trade if the opportunity presents itself. I feel like we have the depth to compete minus CF everybody contributes and gets deployed properly.
  24. Corriea was eating innings at the beginning of the season but hasn't done that in his last 2 starts. I am going to go with 1 or 2 more starts then he'll go to the bullpen and Tonkin will go down. Any pitcher could get called up but Pelfey is 1rst in line if the velocity is up and control is better. I am ready for Meyer to get the call though.
  25. I am ok with a Santana / Fuld platoon for a while. If Hicks isn't studying the days pitcher, then he should be grilled before he's allowed to take batting practice and play in that days game. that is if I was in charge.
