  1. Kris Johnson and Trevor May have the same walking disease. May is doing better than years past but if they can get their walk rate below 3.00 I can see either of them in the starting rotation in Minnesota.
  2. After going 4 for 4 today Kubel now has a .377 strikeout average (57K's in 151 AB). That's a pretty dominating performance by Kubel. Not too many players can strikeout that much.
  3. 15 strike outs in 31 innings is a little low. But he had a great month otherwise. I see Barrios is 4th n the league with 52k's.
  4. 3 - 7 with 5 games to go. Can we win 5 more straight to finish the stretch 8 - 7 going 6 - 9 will put our record at 29 - 30 so we won't be too far out of it.
  5. This game was won by 2 ex Yanks Hughes with 8 IP and 2 earned runs and Nunez with the 2b and 2 RBIs. This game helped Hughes All Star Game Chances. But he has a way to go. Kubel with 4ks in 4 AB should say something to management. He should pass through waivers if the Twins want to option him out to be kind.
  6. The difference then is the increase in batting average. So we need to break that down. Whats his BABIP? is his average unsustainably high? Though I do agree that if he keeps this up he deserves a promotion. His bat I think has always been in the plans. as he has been compared to David Ortiz for a while. We'll probably release him after posting an .830 OPS so Boston can sign him and .....
  7. The team seems to have a few well defined holes. Escobar has for now plugged the big one at SS. Santana has been a good hitting 4th OF/ CF, but Hicks in CF and Kubel as DH have been black holes n the lineup with Hicks showing a little bit lately. The Twins are rumored to be in on John Jay from St Louis to take over CF and Kubel we can replace internally. On pitching the big hole was/is Pelfry who appears to be out for the year, Corriea who is coming around a little with a 4.76 ERA since May 1rst after a horrendous April. and Nolasco who isn't going anywhere after signing that big contract last offseason. It does appear that we have several options ready in AAA to fill in the rotation when management decides to do something to upgrade. I do feel optimistic enough to believe we have a .500 team this year and if some of our up coming pitching changes take place then we could potentially compete for a wild card spot this year. (Mauer has been exempted from being considered part of the problem due to high on base percentage and past performance. That will change if he hasn't made the adjustments to get back on track by the All Star break).
  8. I wonder if a DL trip and minor league rehabilitation assignment might help Kubel get back on track. Otherwise it is about time to say good bye. I don't say much about Kubel or Hicks because they still have decent enough on base percentage and that contributes something on offense. But Kubel has been terrible for an extended period now and doesn't seem to be able to make the adjustments necessary. I guess we could also just designate Kubel for assignment and see if he is willing to go to AAA for a while.
  9. May's walk rate is 3.6 per 9 innings and he was consistent with this in both April (7 BB in 18.33 innings and May 15 bb in 36.67 innings). While that's better than ever for him, Twins usually prefer the walk rate below 3. That's what Rick is for so I say bring him up when we have the opportunity. I hope Corriea has a few more good starts so he could become trade bait. I'm sure there are contenders who would like extra back of the rotation depth at a minimal cost.
  10. It depends on what we have to give up to acquire him. With a .750 OPS He hits just enough to be a corner OF when Buxton comes up plus his defense will grade out better there too. I don't know what St Louis would want in a trade for him but we could offer a bunch of different prospect combinations. They might be interested in pitchers in the lower minors since they have strong depth at the majors already. They may want middle IF, What about Deunsing as part of the package. I see they can use some bullpen help. beyond that I guess they would want to improve their minors with more prospects.
  11. I found a link to this on mlbtraderumors.com It basically says the Twins are interested in Jon Jay. So what would the Twins have to give up to get Jon Jay? would Rosario and Salcedo get it done?
  12. 2 - 6 I had them winning 8 of 15. So they need to go 6 - 1 to make my prediction. The Twins have 4 pitchers in AAA pitching like they want a chance to go to Minnesota if Corriea throws a clunker tomorrow.
  13. Also Kubel is probably the one being cut when Fuld returns. Santana has earned his playing time so far.
  14. It might be time for Kubel to learn Catching to be the 3rd string so Pinto can hit.
  15. I wonder if Eades went through a dead arm phase or is focusing on learning new pitch or something during his decline he just went through. anyone know?
  16. You have a better than average Earned run average with an average pitcher and a lights out bullpen. in 2010 we had 5 deep in the rotation. Liriano was the defacto ace. While he had ace peripherals, He had a 3.62 ERA and I would put that as a number 2 starter. but the others were 3 and 4 starters Pavano, Baker, Slowey, and I forget..... My point is we have Nolasco and Hughes, Gibson and Deduno and Meyer and May. Adding Nola to the mix is not a bad way to have too much pitching. I am going to be fine with whoever they pick but a little nervous with Kolek because of past experiences with pitchers like Hunt and there was a high schooler back in 2004 we drafted in the first round throwing 96 that imploded. I also like the idea of Gordon cause if nothing else it will be nice to see one of our top 5 prospects be a SS at some point.
  17. There are a few grades that I have a few minor quibbles with. Regarding Suzuki do we grade off of expectations coming into the season or are we comparing what we have with other teams. If we are going off of expectations he gets an A or A-. Dedunno has been better than a C. I give him a B. SS is the right averaged grade though to be more clear Escobar gets an A and Florimon gets an F. At DH Pinto is a B and Kubel is a D- (if he is going to separate the starting pitchers and grade them he can separate the 2 DH's and grade them individually). Casey Fien has also been an A and Deunsing an A or A-. everything else appears to be spot on.
  18. make that 1-5 on the 15 game stretch.
  19. So far we are off to a 1 - 4 start though we are winning tonight's game 0-0 in the 5th inning as I write this. Hopefully we pull through this and win tomorrow's game. that will put us back in the treading water game.
  20. above average and better SS and Ace starting pitchers seem to be the hardest players to get on the open market so if there is one of them that is in the group for best player available, we should go with one of them.
  21. Its been interesting that someone different has contributed at different times. At the beginning of the season it was Colabello and Kubel, then Dozier and Suzuki, then Santana had moments and Escobar has come out of no where and been hitting. Fuld was great for about a week. and now it time for Arcia and Willingham to join in. That's a lot of hitters who stepped up at various times when needed throughout the season so far. And we've had some clutch pitching performances especially from the bullpen. and lastly we won a lot of one run games so far. So we win the exciting games and loose in blow out fashion so its not as big of a let down = recipe for enjoyable baseball.
  22. I think he'll need longevity stats to get in. 3000 hits is becoming cliché as we are close to 30 players with 3000 hits so I say 3100 hits and 1600 RBIs and over 1000 XBHs will be needed. I think he can get there.
  23. If his productions slips even more by the time Sano or Vargas come up could Mauer be relegated to bench? say a .270/.360/.360 line isn't that great.
  24. I have no problem with this. Though I don't think he has the stamina to play everyday anymore. I suspect his average is up because he is not worn down playing everyday. But I bet he is good for 400 or so at bats. I think this is my favorite solution but would Ichiro want to come here? He may rather be on the bench for a chance at a world title. Would a trade of Corriea and Darnell Logan get it done?
  25. I think the board would be mad if we kept Maestro and Pressley as they are both worse then Hicks. Hicks has shown promise in some areas of his game so he is not totally lost. and we don't know if the Twins have been telling Hicks to drop switch hitting but would not force the issue. That would be on Hicks rather than the Twins. The fact that our 2nd and 3rd option are currently injured is the issue here. If were patient everything will work out.
