  1. The Twins made a serious run at Raj Davis over the offseason. Would we have this discussion if he chose us over Detroit? So saying the Twins did nothing to address the OF is wrong. There really wasn't any better options out there. I do think the Twins should have brought Pierre in to compete in spring training but I don't remember seeing many available options out there. I also thought it was odd the Twins were going after Raj David so what do I know.
  2. I wish the Twins would go get someone like Juan Pierre to be a back up or AAA filler. He has no arm but can still run just good enough to fill in. and he probably hits better than Hicks right now.
  3. The Twins were aggressive in trying to sign Raj Davis last offseason. Does this article get written if he signed here instead of Detroit? Didn't Davis sign before Pierzinski, who the Twins offered 16 million over 2 years vs 2.75 million for Suzuki? If Davis waited he may have received a higher offer from Minnesota. We'll never know. And here's the funny part. I wasn't thrilled with the idea of signing Raj Davis back then and I don't think it was considered a great idea here either but I bet if we did sign him we would have 2 or 3 more wins.
  4. When I first started following baseball in the late 80's rotator cuff surgery was a lot more common place. I don't see that as much anymore. Does anyone know why?
  5. Good hitting is like good pitching. You can never have enough. With that said, We have the following depth coming up over the next 12months. DH: Pinto, Vargas Colabello 3B: Sano, Plouffe LF/RF: Kubel, Willingham, Arcia, Parmelee, Rosario, CF: Hicks, Buxton Looks like Willingham and Kubel leave as FA. Colabello to the bench with maybe Parmelee or he is gone too and Hicks may need to go down and become a pitcher. Sano may not stick at 3b. so hopefully these newer prospects fare better.
  6. Whose gonna follow a traitor?
  7. The Twins have veteran place holders who are solid (Suzuki, Mauer, Willingham, Kubel, Nolasco, Hughes, most bullpen members, Corriea as a 5th starter, . The key to this point and more so through out the season will be how the younger players produce as they start coming up. (Colabello, though not young, Tonkin, Thielbar, Logan, Santana, Pinto, Escobar, Dozier, and soon to come Meyer and Vargas)
  8. I don't know exactly. but they are the gatekeepers of podcasting through iTunes (their company). I am not an expert on what all iTunes is or does but the issue MLB should have is with iTunes (if they are not licensed by MLB) and not the podcasters as iTunes stand to benefit from having more listeners or traffic through their product. Since I am not in this field I can not get into specifics I do not know if other media outlets pay for access or licensing fees for using the MLB logo. I just don't know.
  9. I think MLB's issue was more with iTunes profiting from the Podcasts talking about baseball and MLB copyrighted material then their fans Podcasting about it. While MLB had to stop trying to force iTunes to license with MLB so their fans can keep podcasting but iTunes is basically stealing intellectual property by allowing fans to podcast and iTunes profits from it. iTunes should just pony up and license and force advertising into the podcasts to help support the licensing fees. If the issue is that fans are talking about MLB and MLB copyrighted material then fans should provide a bibliography to give them credit as podcasts are nothing more than a vocalized paper. Those 2 things should solve all problems MLB has with podcasting if not shame on them.
  10. 2 relievers could be packaged together for a top 10 prospect from a win now team. If I am the Phillies and I am trying to win now. I would trade a solid prospect for 2 solid relievers if it can make that big a difference this year. Or we could trade Corriea or Kubel or Willingham and a reliever for more than otherwise. it all depends on what we can get and how we package the deal on our end. Do I think we can get a top 5 prospect for them ...no but we can get value. Or we can become competitive if we find our SS and Meyer comes up and tears it up, we could just keep our excess and let it go in the offseason.
  11. Add the Phillies to the list of teams who could use help in the bullpen. They are in win now mode so they would trade prospects for bullpen help. That's 3 playoff contenders: 1. Phillies 2. Tigers 3. Angels who all need bullpen help while we have 10 different options. Also Phillies and A's could use a swingman like Correia too. The beauty of what we are doing this year is we have a huge stockpile of arms we could trade and replace in our pen. Guerrier is one more arm.
  12. Kubel is definitely slumping after his hot start. So is Colabello, Plouffe, and Pinto. When Willingham and Arcia return it will be interesting to see how the playing time gets divvied up. 1B Mauer, Parmelee, Colabello LF Willingham, Kubel RF Arcia, Parmelee, Colabello, Kubel DH Colabello, Kubel, Pinto, Parmelee I don't think they will release Kubel (though I admit it is still possible) but he could see less playing time. We will have to send 1 player out though if no one is injured. Likely Colabello or Arcia since they both have options or Parmelee if he really is terrible. We will have to go back to 12 pitchers though. 2B Dozier 1B Mauer 3B Plouffe LF Willingham DH Colabello RF Arcia C Suzuki CF Hicks SS Escobar bench Parmelee, Kubel, Pinto, Fuld, Santana = (1 too many on the bench)
  13. I'm going with Suzuki, Dozier, and Perkins though if Hughes has 11 or 12 wins at the break, he could make it but at this point he isn't quite there yet.
  14. I am sorry. Here, I'll be more specific. When Meyer comes up and he pitches at his potential, that would cover the pitcher in the rotation we would need. We still need a SS. I hope Escobar can succeed and run with the SS position. If he can post a .720 OPS and play above average defense with Meyer pitching to max ability we could then compete for a wildcard. I do not think that is enough to win the division. on offense Suzuki and Plouffe have been big surprises. Colabello and kubel as well. so with Mauer and Arcia and Willingham when they come back and potentially Parmalee again with a solid SS that only leaves an inadequate CF in the lineup. Also when Meyer gets called up we will have a rotation of Nolasco, Hughes, Gibson, Deduno, and Meyer. That is an average rotation. With our bullpen being what they are really good and an average rotation = a net slightly above average rotation. That can get us in the play offs with some luck.
  15. The Oakland A's need pitching depth and have a SS who is a top prospect in the minors. later this season we could trade 1 or 2 relievers, with say Willingham or Parmelee for offense, or a swingman like Swarzak or Corriea for Lowrie who will be a FA. Especially if Oakland has another pitcher get hurt. They get depth we get a proven SS for the stretch run. Meyer is the pitcher to make us competitive provided he is ready when he comes up. Anahiem and Detroit are 2 teams in the playoff hunt looking for bullpen help. I am sure there are others, Should we fall completely out of the race we could package 2 relievers for a decent prospect not great one.
  16. The lineup can survive one hole in the lineup. Especially when the hole has a .315 OBP. that is at least serviceable. Plus he can field the position. (note He still has bad offense.) the staff era is improving. with Deduno to go with Gibson, Hughes, and Nolasco gives us 4 solid not spectacular starters and when Meyer comes up that gives us a competitive 5 starters. we have several cleanup type hitter on the roster Kubel, Willingham when he is healthy, Colabello, Arcia, Plouffe, and Suzuki has been hitting close to Mauer level here too. This equates to needing 1 starting pitcher and one SS to be competitive. Yes we will still have holes. I didn't say we are going to beat Detroit for the division title. But I do think those 2 things would get us into the wild card discussion. This is why I am frustrated about us not signing Drew. I hope Escobar runs with the SS position and fills that hole and Meyer fills out the rotation.
  17. I don't really see much roster mis management here. 1. Bartlett vs Pressley....both are terrible so they went with the one with name recognition, also I bet they knew Fulds days were numbered in Oakland at this time too so if Bartlett failed which he did they had their option ready to pick. 2. Guerrier. we have 8 to 10 options who can succeed in a bullpen roll for a 7 man bullpen. which means we have depth to trade. Detroit and Anaheim Angels have bad bullpens and could come calling. 3. I can see that we probably should have sent Herman down a week ago and called up Wilkin Ramirez. that's probably the only real mistake I see. At this point we are probably a starting pitcher and SS away from being a wild card contender. Meyer is coming up soon. so that one will be solved. stay tuned.....
  18. I just want to point out a few obvious things. 1. depth management is as important as roster construction this time of year which is why the best players are not called up right now. We need to make sure we keep as many assets as we can in case of injury... 2. With a few breaks we could actually be competitive this year. when Meyer comes up and if Deduno pitches well then we could end up with an average to slightly above average rotation. and Detroit has an ineffective bullpen so if Guerrier is a FA cause we don't call him up I bet he goes there and pitches with Nathan out of their pen. We can just as easily hold on to him and we have trade leverage. 3. Our tradeable pieces are adding up Corriea, Pelfry, several bullpen arms, Parmelee, Willingham, and Kubel. We could really add to our minor league depth this trade deadline. 4. The Twins tend to keep an eye on other teams pretty well. I wonder if they were planning to get Fuld from the get go. Pressley really looked bad in spring training.
  19. I concur with Larsbars08 but I suspect the Twins will allow him to go a little higher than 100. Maybe 120-130 Max. Depends on how tired he appears by the end of the season.
  20. Ron Gardenhire is our most dangerous hitter. Its a good thing that he is allowed to DH.....(Pinto) was the intended DH.
  21. The Twins have an embarrassment of bullpen and swingman/5th starters who could be traded for something. Oakland has no other starters available in case of injury as they have already lost 2 starters. We could trade Corriea, and a reliever, and a prospect of some degree 25th - 50th type of ranking in the system for Lowrie when both Oaklands SS prospect and Meyer are set to come up and make a go of it. We could also include Parmelee or Willingham instead and get a prospect back too.
  22. I guess MLB will go after websites like this one soon too. Down with the bushwahzee!
  23. I would absolutely bring up Guerrier to keep him from leaving. Here's a thought. The A's have a SS prospect so they could be open to trading their current SS who is about to be a FA. Corriea and Guerrier or Burton for Lowrie in June when the Twins are ready to bring up Meyer and the A's are ready to bring up their SS prospect. All 3 players are set to be FA at the end of the season. so the long term isn't that big of a deal. it would be considered a tryout for Lowrie and see if he likes it here to resign too.
  24. Let's see here. Dozier has 1 double, bunch of walks, 11 stolen bass and 8 HR. having a few more HR and fewer doubles isn't going to drive in that many more runs compared to say Colabello. He sets the table so other hitters can get a good look at the starting pitcher. You can see he has a high pitch per plate appearance. He leads the league in runs scored, which means everyone is doing there job behind him. Why mess with that?
  25. "Regardiing the DH options, Pinto won't be a DH much longer- he either steps into the C full-time or is replaced at DH when Gardy returns to the 2-catcher lineup, Willingham will be traded soon, Parmellee is not on the roster, Arcia is currently hurt and struggling with a K% in the mid-30% range, while Colabello is currently in his first significant slump. and some of the above and possibly others are bound to have injury down time over the course of the season. This is not as insurmountable a hurdle as it might seem at first glance" I agree that by the 2nd half of the season Vargas could be a potential call up. Though if Suzuki continues to hit Pinto will remain at DH. Suzuki has shown no signs of regression. He has out hit Pierzinski who we tried to get for his offense last offseason. how ironic is that? Pinto has a .900 OPS so he isn't going anywhere either. I do think Arcia could be passed up if he doesn't fix some of his hitting issues. Willingham will be traded or let go this offseason only because we have too many replacements for him. Colabello is slumping which is taking the wind out of the Twins lineup right now. Going into next year we have 8 options for 3B, LF, RF, DH, and back up 1B: Arcia Pinto Colabello Sano Plouffe Kubel (possibly resign) Vargas Parmelee
