  1. he was also held up in the minors by his lack of talent. He hit .220 or so a few years there. I don't think anything of his comments. its not like he was saying them to our face with a bunch of anger. But our minors had nothing and TR was trying to rebuild our system by trading for pitching prospects to speed up the rebuild. and we are just now getting to the point of using those pitchers. Span is a solid CF on the cusp of being an allstar but not a 5 tool player.
  2. How about Buerhle an his 1 year 19 million left on his contract? He's not a long term investment or a FA but what about getting him for next year?
  3. He's second in the league in scoring. so lets see ..... March/ April 25 runs May 19 Runs June 16 July 12 August 25 September 3 From this I can see that he had a little slump in June and July but he picked it right back up in August. He is really slumping to finish out the season. I wonder if he may be tired based on the way he's scoring right now. Another major area of concern is his lack of triples. He has 0 triples on the year meaning he doesn't seem to have the ability to test the OF arms at least once or twice and try for third and succeed. He has had 32 chances to convert a 2b to a triple and has failed 32 times to make it happen. That's a lot of failure and it shouldn't be tolerated.
  4. Krivitsky? Isn't he still with the team and a former GM?
  5. Can you pinpoint why you don't like Gardy as manager? I see lots of blame going his way for a talentless roster. I hope its not 4 losing seasons. If its in game management then I can appreciate that or if its something else. The Twins are about set to go on an 8 season winning streak or so. If Gardy manages those seasons he will be back to being a good manager and close to a 2000 win manager too. Might even bee a Hall of Fame Manager. The question is if he'll want to manage until e's close to70.
  6. 1. The Twins offense is good now despite Mauers production. But a better Mauer is more fun to watch. 2. Mauer, C and the OF is where defense is lacking. We have defensive C at high A on the way and the low A C wasn't too bad either. wont help in 2015 but help is coming. Buxton, Hicks and Schaefer can get to anything in the OF, Parmelee can hold his own as a 4th OF/DH/1B/PH. Buxton wont be up till late next year if we are lucky but we wont be as bad next year by default. The solution is in our system. Mauer just needs more repetition to be average out there. 3. The rotation has pieces with more coming. We could go out and sign Santana/ Shields or wait it out. 4 and 5. no real comment on the last 2 home record and management are not something you can really pinpoint for improvement. yes we can get better OF defense and RH power. and Gardy is fine as a manager.
  7. He's now won 3 games straight basically pitching like Correa in those starts with strikeouts. 8 ER in 16 innings with 19 strike outs. He's getting there. I think he is starting to relax a little.
  8. Its time for post game defensive drills. Especially after games when bone headed plays are made. Drill the bad habits and mistakes out right after they make them.
  9. Who I want them to go after: Santana or Shields Who they'll go after: Liriano Chris Young Kyle Kendrick Aaron Harang Chris Campuano Edison Volquez Roberto Hernandez The Twins will go after the guy that almost can put it together cause they cost about 1/3 per season with many fewer seasons then the top guys will get. Never mind that the rotation is the only area really needing help and we have plenty of payroll space and that the only other kinda area Left Field has internal options (Parmelee, Hicks, and Schaefer.
  10. He's a career minor leaguer. He could get the Tommy Watkins/ Bernier treatment someday and get a month or 2 up with the Twins in a few years.
  11. If you look at what's coming for the future. If Gardy leads the Twins to winning seasons for the next 8 seasons or so ....and that is possible with he talent coming up the pipe the Gardy could end his career with over 2000 managerial victories and potentially make the hall of fame as a manager. Why would he walk away from that? Just because Kelly did doesn't mean Gardy does. And its not like Gardy has forgotten how to manage. I say he'll be here another 10 seasons or so till he's close to 70 and walks away as a top 5 manager of all time. Though Meintkiewicz is definitely a future managerial candidate somewhere if not here.
  12. There are 12 relievers on that list that had a 9k per 9 innings or better and a few more that were close. Pretty soon our relievers will strike out more that our starters.
  13. I've been writing about this in the Forums section and updating it since the Twins have traded their vets. The Twins are likely to finish either 3rd 4th or 5th worst record at this point. Houston is not guaranteed the 2nd pick of the draft if they have to sign the 5th pick whom they agreed to a handshake agreement with and then reneged and is being pursued by the union. Then Houston will be over slot bonus and forfeit their next 2 first round picks. They may get to keep the 2nd and loose their other pick so what do I know.
  14. I would like to know how these guys on the list (top 6 and honorable mention) stack up as propsects. how many are potentially 3 and 4 starters as well as 1 or 2s?
  15. The talent was bad and this is a team in transition. There have been some bright spots. I am ok with bringing the gang back next year to see what they can do. If we are not a .500 team or close to it next year then changes will have to be made as we have several building blocks in place and a power offense moving forward. If Nolasco can at least go back to being an average starter we have 3 decent starters for next year and we have a few solid bullpen arms on the way. With that we should be a .500 team. We are having a bad September because we messed with the staff by adding and playing the extras for a tryout which I why the rest of this season doesn't bother me too much. If we went with a 25 or 27 man roster to win as many games as possible I would be disappointed with a sub .500 September.
  16. I think next year we will be a .500 team or better. Especially with the way the offense is improving and we still have reinforcements on the way. With that said we are now in a 3 way tie for 4th place meaning we would pick 4th if the season ended today in next years draft. We are 2 games out of the 3rd pick. I didn't think our rotation is that bad. I see our team is likely to end up from the 3rd pick to the 6th pick. It will take a lot to end up with the 7th pick. Texas 53 - 87 - Colorado 56 - 84 3 Arizona 59 - 81 6 Minnesota 61 - 79 8 Houston 61 - 79 8 Boston 61 - 79 8 Chicago 63 - 76 10.5
  17. They'll go with the 3 Hughes Nolasco Gibson then go with this choice if healthy Pelfry The last spot will go to who wins the battle in spring training between May and Millone with Meyer given an outside chance then Pino is the emergency plan/6th starter long reliever IMO he is the new Deduno bouncing between the rotation and relieving as a 6th starter. (see the battle with Diamond, Worely, Deduno and Gibson for the 5th spot this year re-enacted with new cast Pelfry = Diamond the top choice going in, May and Meyer = Gibson the rookie with upside and Millone = Worely had past success but not the most talented and again Pino is Deduno who gets relegate to long relief at the beginning of spring training if Swarzak is let go this offseason.) only this next competition can play out a little differently with different results.
  18. I think TR is a top 10 GM. We were a winning team from 2001 to 2010 except for 1 79-83 season. When he came back in 2011 the minors were terrible and are now one of the best. There are more prospects then ever. We will either be a winning team in 2015 or 2016 and will stay that way a long time more than likely. Also with the talent coming up we have lots of payroll space to add the complimentary players to make us winners. There were several GMs ranked higher than TR like Dayton Moore. That guy is a bottom feeder on the list and should be no where near the middle as his team was terrible for 7 years while ours is at 4. Dayton spent their young talent to win now so this year is it for their window. They do have a core to be a .500 team for a few years but no talent in their system and no money to spend in the offseason.
  19. So on offense we have youngsters: Arcia, Santana, Hicks, Pinto, Vargas, Escobar, and vets Dozier, Plouffe, Suzuki, and Mauer. Parmelee, Nunez and Schaefer on the bench. I see the basics of a solid lineup an with Sano and Buxton ready around the Allstar break and Walker and Polanco by the end of the season we will have options The bullpen is solid as is but there are a few pitchers on the way up that throw real hard. so were good there. The rotation has the usual: Hughes, Gibson, Nolasco then Millone, May, Meyer, Pino, Pelfry and eventually Berrios. I don't know if any of the other starting pitchers will make the climb and be ready next year so the Twins may want to add a AAAA starter just in case. We used 11 starters this year. So as I see it we need a AAAA starter for depth and maybe a better back up C and maybe a LF if Hicks and or Schaefer cant cut it for now.
  20. Hicks has through next season to impress the twins. I think this September is more about Hicks showing he can hold his own or do better than he's done so far. Bernier deserves a callup. I am ok with him as a possible bench call up for him next year if there is an injury. He is a solid insurance policy for the bench. There is a solid chance that this type of playing time will have him consider staying here in the offseason if the Twins ask him back. As far as the bullpen arms go, I don't want to get into who stays or who goes too much as our bullpen is currently pretty solid and not too expensive. Burton seems to be a given to be gone but with the rest who knows. Hermann hasn't hit yet but could be serviceable 5th OF/ 3rd C/ 3rd 1B if he could I for average or with some power or field better. I hope Colabello can still get that Korea contract for 1 million this offseason. would have loved to see him make it for a few seasons as a back up OF/1B/DH/ Pinch hitter off the bench but guess Parmelee will be that guy. Florimon/ Bernier only 1 should stick around to be bench insurance. defense vs bat Overall though I am excited to see that we are a few pieces away from being competitive. Our offense is improving to league best and we still have 2 super prospects coming up. We are currently set for the 5th pick in the draft if the season ended today. And we have Pitchers who are almost here. (Berrios and Meyer)
  21. Basically by reading this we will need some of our current relievers for at least the first half next year. Our bullpen is solid now so don't be too upset if we keep most of our pen from this year into next. And start changing them out throughout the season like we did with our offense this season.
  22. Looks like we have multiple options at several positions. I like our bench Parmalee, Nunez, and Schafer, Pinto is the better back up C cause then we have a power LH and RH batter off the bench and speed Rotation is fine but Shields for 3 or 4 years would be nice. I don't think we could get the other top rotation pitchers for that short of a contract. SS should belong to Escobar as has been a top 5 SS offensively in the AL. Santana Should be able to take over if the need arises. He should definitely be starting somewhere. LF we have Schaefer, Parmelee, and then either Plouffe or Santana when Buxton and Sano comes up or we could sign a 1 year stop gap like Hunter 1 year 10 million is not too much. I think our bullpen will have more of a turnover during the season next year. we will probably head to spring training with a similar pen and make transitions throughout the year like we did on our offense this year.

I feel old now. I remember reading your blog back in 2002 or2003. It was your second season blogging as there were a few articles from the previous season. when your kids were in elementary school. I found your blog In a web search for Twins news on accident. I went on to your site and read and article or 2 and it was exactly the kind of news I wanted to read about so I started reading the previous articles and went back to the previous season. I have been reading your stuff ever since.
  24. As a team...were getting there. plus hitters: Santana Plouffe Escobar Dozier Suzuki Vargas hitters who should be plus next year: Mauer Arcia That's solid potential there plus Sano and Buxton on the way we hope Rotation: Hughes Gibson Should be alright: Nolasco Millone Meyer when he gets up here. Pino and Swarzak makes a sold 6th starter The whole bullpen has been pretty solid. Burton had a down season but overall if he's the worst that's not bad.
