  1. He's their best hitter right now so that's not going to happen. think his long term position will be in the OF especially If Escobar is adequate at SS.
  2. I just hope this means we can all agree that Terry Ryan doesn't rely on his abacus as much as he used to for statistical analysis.
  3. Escobar beat my modest expectations by a mile and further shows why we should continue to believe in Terry Ryan. He did show some line drive ability last year so while 35 2Bs is high for anyone with that few ABs in a season I do have confidence he will hit 2Bs at a better than average rate. his batting line this year is Mauer lite. Mauers line without the walks. For next year, I am fine with him at SS while Santana holds down CF for a bit. Though he is a good candidate to be included in a trade package for a starting pitcher. Both the Mets and Cincinnati have pitchers to trade and a need at SS. I personally like Niese as he is a LHP with 2 years and 2 options years on a contract at a reasonable price. maybe add in a reliever or minor leaguer to balance this out.....
  4. With Nolasco finishing the season on a high note, I can see him as a 12 - 15 game winner with round 190 to 210 innings pitched. That gives us 3 solid starters with Gibson and Hughes. Do you plan to go after 1 or 2 starters this offseason? Do you think you will sign a FA starter and from what tier? There are also numerous pitchers available for trade such as Gee or Niese or Cinncinatti has 4 starting pitchers 1 year away from FA to name a few on the market? Do you consider Pelfry a potential bullpen pitcher next season or a starter? Could May and Meyer start the season in the rotation or just one.? Could Torii Hunter be a target this offseason?
  5. or is Tom Brunanski that good of a hitting coach.
  6. I just read the article. They grade the Twins with the best farm system in the game and should be one of the best teams as soon as the talent comes up. 25 is an arbitrary number if we changed that to 22 and under or under 23 the Twins would be first or second on the list.
  7. I was going to write that one should be manager and the other a coach. But if that is the case then Molitor will be the manager and Mientkiewicz the bench coach.
  8. Here is how I see next year starting out: Hughes Nolasco Gibson Pitcher we trade for May Meyer then Berrios I see us non-tendering or including Millone in the trade for the starting pitcher Millone, Escobar, and (Deunsing or Swarzak or something else) for Latos or Leake, or cinninatti has 3 or 4 pitchers one year away from FA. Millone can be a replacement for them under team control a few years. Perkins Fien Pressly Deunsing (unless traded) Theibar (though he didn't get used a lot towards the end of the season) Tonkin Burdi Swarak (if he not non tendered and go with 8 relievers) Lineup: Santana (SS) Buxton (CF) Dozier (2B) Vargas (DH) Mauer (1B) Arcia (RF) Plouffe / Sano (3B) Suzuki / Pinto © Hicks/Schafer (LF) Bench: Pinto Escobar / Nunez (if Escobar is traded) Schafer Parmelee
  9. Terry Ryan is a good GM. There is no need to let him go. How many bad contracts has he hindered the club with since he has been here? (the bad multi year contracts are Joe Mays and the first year of Nolasco deal and Pelfry) That's a pretty low rate of failure compared to other GM's. (Note I do think Nolasco will rebound and be a solid 12-15 game winner the next 3 years averaging 190-210 innings per season.) We have a deep system and flexibility moving forward. This was a rebuilding year. As far as Gardenhire, He's a good manager who has his faults. No platooning, too role defined and routine oriented. and Rick Anderson is probably why Gardy is gone but he does do a good job of keeping the team together. I don't think he necessarily needed to go but the season ticket holders demanded it and for the first time since I followed the Twins, the Pohlads caved to pier pressure and Gardy is out. now it could be that management wants a different voice moving forward but they need to go outside the organization for that. Putting a Minnesotan who bailed on the team in 2002 because of the threat of contraction doesn't seem like the person I would want to run a team as Molitor lacks loyalty in that respect.
  10. There are other tradechips then Plouffe on the team. Why trade him now when we can trade one of the other chips. Also we need a solid starter. Cincy has several. The Mets have 2. I was going to ask about a trade of Escobar to the Mets for Gee or Niese? or atleast the framework of a deal.
  11. Dozier didn't have the arm for SS he probably doesn't have the arm for 3B.
  12. This would be an interesting way to do the list. instead of top 50 wee could show the top players at each position. of course this only is interesting when we are deep in minor leaguers. Also Duffy and Rogers are well established at AA this year meaning they could show enough to warrant a big league promotion as early as next year. We should be looking at the following pitching options available for next year. Meyer May Berrios Duffy Rogers Do we really need to sign or trade for a pitcher for those last 2 slots in the rotation?
  13. There are numerous good pitchers available for trade this off season. would be ok if we traded for one of them.
  14. I thin this turned out much better for Kansas City then they could ever have imagined. Especially after winning last night. Though KC was not likely to improve by this much after the trade, I guess he really helped some of the younger pitchers along with Vargas and Guthrie. If I were Dayton Moore I would try to sign Shields and trade one of Guthrie or Vargas to help balance the payroll some and try again next year. Especially if they make it to the next round in the playoffs. But anytime you can make a trade that helps propel you to the playoffs its a win. Especially when its been 29 years since your team last went to the playoffs.
  15. so whose left for the top 10? Burdi Polanco Stewart Berrios May Meyer Gordon Buxton Sano Vargas? Garver? I'm at loss for the last one.
  16. I remember a story from Twinsgeek on how umpires are more likely to call a ball on a questionable pitch to avoid calling a k on a marginal pitch and more likely to call a strike to prevent the walk on a marginal hit. So when I read this, I have to wonder what the counts are statistically when the framed pitches are called. A full review of that will add legitimacy to pitch framing provided that most of the k's called are on 3-0 or 3-1 counts. Since the Twins are strike throwers their catchers should tend to rate lower by the same logic. Wait the Twins catchers do rate lower. Something to consider.
  17. Ron Gardenhire is fired because the Twins let the minors and majors talent erode to the point where they had to start all over and it took 4 years to get to the point where they are close to turning it around. but they have to pacify those that need instant gratification because that is the society we live in. Instant gratification.
  18. I got the impression that Rick Anderson was let go then Gardy followed him and this was reframed that Gardy was let go....Any ways, My 3 choices are Dave Martinez, Stienbach, and Dougie. anyway you look at it, this will take some getting used to.
  19. Someone who can platoon players who need to be platooned.
  20. If Gardehire were allowed to manage the next wave of winning were about to embark on then he likely would have been a HOF manager.
  21. Do or do not. There is no try.....
  22. Disappointing. The talent to compete was arriving. They will be competitive next year.
  23. I think he finished the year strong and shown the last month that he can be a capable pitcher. I expect his results next year to be similar to what Gibson did this year. I live in the town over from Corona and it is real nice out here. in the 70's and 80's right now. lots of sunshine.
