  1. We could trade a few relievers and a prospect maybe. Fien and Deunsing and Taylor Rogers maybe? Also it would give us 4 starters who could win 12-15 games a piece. That and if any of the flame throwers come up (Reed and Burdi) and our OF defense improves. We could theoretically have a team that can potentially win here or at least be in the hunt come next September.
  2. I think Molitor is a great bench coach. But I don't know how good he would be as a manager. I do think Maddon is a good manager. I think he has all of the things that make Gardenhire a good manager and he is open to advanced stats and ideas to improve the teams odd of winning as opposed to Gardenhire. So my preference is Maddon. though I wouldn't mind the Twins bringing Gardenhire back.
  3. Can we get a hold of enough season ticket holders to raise a stink to the front office to contact this guy already?
  4. I don't think he'll come to Minnesota. We may not be a fit for him. But I would be upset if we didn't publicly inquire.
  5. I don't expect a lot of transactions this offseason so I am ok I this gives us something to talk about through November.
  6. I think a trade is more likely based on the options presented. there will be lots of pitchers available in trades cause next year there will be lots of pitchers available in FA.
  7. The reason I say this, is because If Meyer goes to the pen and so does Pelfry, then we would almost need to sign another pitcher unless Berrios is ready as our depth 6/7/8th starters are not as plentiful at this time. Hughes/ Nolasco/ Gibson/ May/ Millone then you have Gilmartin and Berrios and Pino if healthy next season and he re-signs. That's not a lot of depth if we can not count on Berrios as an option. Maybe Rogers and The other mid level prospect Duffy I think could be ready enough to pitch up here. Who else would we be able to count on if Gibson or Hughes gets hurt for a month to start the season?
  8. Well that's 2 roster spots and at least 4 million in freed up money. 3.4 million after the 200 buyout on Burton and whatever the Carp pay for Johnson which I assume is over 500k. I think Johnson does make a nice 6/7 starter and reliever ready to be called upon but if h can make more over in Japan then that's where he should be at this stage of his career.
  9. I think I am fine with any of the three managerial choices. If Mientkewicz is manager then Molitor should be offered a coaching job. If Lovullo gets the job then he may want Molitor but not as important. If Molitor gets the job then Mientkiewicz should get the bench coach job so he can learn on the job.
  10. Meyer needs to be either starting or in the bullpen. I don't really care where just think he needs to be one place or the other and not going back and forth. I do like Pelfry in the pen. Can he get his pitches up over 95 there? How long till Berrios is ready? I know he is pretty much ready for AAA. This tells me he could be ready early next season.
  11. My expectations for Mauer are tempered a little. .290-.310 / .380/ .420-.440 or 35+ 2Bs and 10-15 HRs He really needs to be near elite defensively to get close to what we are paying him for. 200 hits in a season would be nice too since he wont hit 25 HRs
  12. I can see Reed, Burdi, and Jones and maybe a few other high powered relievers climbing the minor league ladder to AAA if not the majors next season. I can see the Twins waiting till May of 2016 to bring up most of these relievers. I do believe the Twins will want to at least see some decent control from their relievers before bringing them up.
  13. I expect 190-210 innings and a high 3's ERA maybe low 4's winning 12-15 games. If we had 5 starting pitchers like that we would be in the playoffs.
  14. I can see us standing pat in the OF as Parmelee, Hicks, Schaeffer all battle it out in LF and 4th OF till Buxton arrives. Signing someone does make us better though. As far as pitching goes we can do 1 of 2 things. Sign or trade for a starter that makes our rotation 4 deep with 1 spot to compete for. or sign a player like Corriea who is coming back from injury to compete for a rotation spot with the others. While we have 5 names to compete for 2 spots Pelfry, Millone, May, Meyer, and Pino, I guess you can add Swarzak to the list. I am not sure if Pelfry can start or if Millone or Swarzak will be back next season. I also don't think the bullpen needs much turnover. unless there is a trade. I see Deunsing back with the Twins. I think Burton is gone and maybe Swarzak, but that is about it. I do see the Twins brining in other relievers as the season goes on but there won't be too much of a bullpen turnover unless there is a trade. And there really doesn't need to be.
  15. only if he signs a 3 year extension should we go after him. that means "no" cause that's what he would tell us.
  16. Plus how old is he 21? He has another 3 to 4 years to hit his stride. How does he compare to college hitters getting drafted? Obviously not top of the class but still solid. I think he has the floor of Benson and a much higher ceiling.
  17. I would give them an A if you count the international signings. Andy MacPhail once said his goal in the draft was to find me up each year. with both players having a big role I Think a B is a solid grade. A c is if one of those 2 were just a bench player.
  18. I wonder how new pitching coach will affect his pitching.
  19. I think all 3 should be back with the Twins next year. They should all be on the bench too. Though if the Twins do not go and get a LF then Schaeffer and Parmelee look like a solid platoon combo there. With 300 AB and pinch running appearances Schaeffer could potentially steal 30-40 bases. and Pamelee could hit 8 -15 HRs with 200 - 300AB with close to a .700-.720 OPS Nunez is a solid MI bench player. He is capable of hitting 260-.270 with .310 / .350 for a .660 OPS with 10-15 stolen base potential. He could start for a stretch but not full time IMO. I like that the Twins have a veteran bench going into next season outside of back up C.
  20. Its not like this team has lots of experience hiring major league managers. They need to take their time and do it right. Maybe this search can go into next year and they can bring back Gardenhire on an interim basis.
  21. LF Options internally for next season: Schaefer Nunez Parmelee Sano Rosario Hicks Can the Twins find a manager that can optimally platoon the best 2 here unless Sano takes over at the allstar break. Still not great but not horrible if done right.
  22. I get the feeling these guys like playing for the Twins as they usually resign with them when hey have the chance to go somewhere else.
  23. I think Bernier makes really good emergency MI. And Pino could make the team and replace Swazak when he becomes too expensive either next year or the year after. He's a good 13th /14th pitcher for the staff for both emergency starter or 2 weeks in long relief when needed. Neither player is great but they are veteran enough and good enough to avoid the rookie mistakes.
  24. I don't hold a lot of stock in pitch framing at this point because of what Twinsgeek wrote about in terms of counts that borderline pitches get called balls and which ones tend to get called strikes. when those 2 sets of data get brought together then I will have confidence in that stat. As far a Pinto goes. If we want to se him as a Catcher he needs to spend time in AAA and work on his game. If he is to be a bench player he still needs to work on Catching and also 1B and maybe RF or something and except the fact he is a bench player until he learns to Catch better.
  25. Hick's floor is 4th OF but I think his ceiling is Starting Pitcher or Reliever with that 97 mph fast ball. When he was drafted many scout doubted his ability to hit up here, but no one doubted is ability to pitch.
