  1. Twins could be after a bench bat. The Twins were interested in Mark Reynolds according to Neal.
  2. 7. Now the Twins have a pitcher they can trade down the line to help replenish the farm system when they start drafting in the first round with the 28th pick. This would happen if the younger pitchers show they belong and can adequately replace the pitcher being traded or we have the ammo to trade a prospect to acquire a piece that helps us get to the World Series.
  3. Well the questions has already been answered. the Twins signed Brayan Villareal to a split contract. He is a reliever who is wild and k's a lot of people. in 2012 with Detroit he k'd 66 in 54.67 innings and had 28 walks. last year he spent most of the year with Boston's AAA team. So we are after relievers.
  4. so he has a higher OPS against the Twins then any other team. 1.012
  5. They have quantity but not enough certainty. I think Terry Ryan has said they want some relief help.
  6. who is this?
  7. The difference is Theo Epstein admitted up front he was doing a rebuild and Terry Ryan did not. That's where the frustration comes from saying one thing while doing another. With that said there is no one I would rather see in charge of the Twins then Terry. Though on the spending money thing I do think the Twins could have spent the money to get Neshek for the pen on a 2 year 12 million deal. Yes its a little much but we do have the payroll space and a need for relievers and it is a short term contract.
  8. I can only see relief pitchers coming over or maybe a reclamation project or a minor league contract/ AAA filler stuff. We have a solid lineup 1-9. our bench sets up well and we have options in AAA in case of injuries. Our rotation has depth 1-4 with 4 #5 starter options plus Pino and Berrios in AAA and Duffy and Rogers close behind too. The only roster player I can see the Twins going for is a reliever.
  9. I thought Santana would get 15 or 16 million per year so I think we did real well to not only get our pitcher but at the price too. If you look at his expectations last year he expected a 5 year 75 million and got 1 year at 14.1 million + the 54 million guarantee on this one he came close at 68.1 million. Does anyone know if there is a 1 million buyout on the option as I see on mlbtraderumors there is an update saying the contract is for 55 million guaranteed.
  10. Also this should help take some pressure off of Nolasco as he is no longer the franchises largest free agent signing in history. He can relax on the added pressure now.
  11. Also who is going to be outrighted off the roster? Hermann?
  12. All that's left for our offseason is tinkering with the bullpen as we appear set in the rotation now and our lineup is set. so is our bench though I wonder if Burgois is still an option for us? but with 2 holes in the bullpen we have lots of candidates for, I can still see us going out and signing a project or 2 to compete for a spot. I would also be ok with a lotto ticket of Medlin or Beachy.
  13. it appears to be done now. 4 years and 54 million with 5th year option
  14. if the Twins sign Santana they will be pretty much done with their offseason. They go dumpster diving for reliever options but that's it. They won't trade either of the MI's this offseason.
  15. Did you see what LA Dodgers did yesterday and today? Kemp gone Haren gone Dee Gorden gone 10 million in cash to Marlins gone welcome Kendrick Brandon McCarthy 4 year 48 million Grandal Jimmy Rollins That's a new 2B and SS and C and replacement starting pitcher for Haren
  16. I'm ok with trading veteran pitchers we sign today for prospects down the line when our young pitchers are ready to establish themselves if that's how we can handle the log jam of pitchers. I also think having Santana on our staff now makes us a .500 team as is. if Nolasco rebounds and a solid 5th starter emerges then we could compete for a Wild Card / Division Title.
  17. Well if this goes through then we would match up well against 2 of the move the Whitesox made so far. Torii vs LaRoche (this is a fairly close matchup with the bat) Santana vs Samardzija (Samardzija gets the edge but Santana can hold his own) Too bad we didn't get Neshek to counter Robertson. I don't consider Duke too significant as he is pretty similar to Deunsing in results.
  18. Its starting to look like we won't be outdone by he Whitesox this offseason. We are a reliver short of matching the Whitesox moves man for man. Hunter vs La Roche Santana vs Samardzija Reliever to be announced vs Robertson Granted we are not likely to top Robertson, Torii and Santana match up fairly close to their counterparts. If the Twins would have signed Neshek this would have been close to even across the board.
  19. Wow! We actually gave up a draft pick to sign someone. We are really moving up on this free agency thing.
  20. How bout trying to determine the bar at which the Twins should be operating? is the streaming revenue and such allowing the Twins to operate at what should be a 120 million payroll or should the Twins be at 110 or up to 130. As far as players to sign. I kinda would have liked to see the Twins sign Neshek for the bullpen. while 6 million a year for 2 years is too much. Having a home town player who wants to be here that we would root for would be nice too. I think the Twins could afford the extra 2 million per season or so over what the Twins would perceive as market value for the contract. I get that we are not going to go out and sign a 25 million per year pitcher for 6 years. That's just too much risk or eggs in one basket. but Liriano on a 3 year 39 million makes sense to me.
  21. I would agree to but for 2 years it not a lot. He is a fan favorite from Minnesota so again why not. If the salary is prohibitive from making other moves then yeah don't sign him but I can't shake this feeling the Twins are going to sign a Vogelsong or Kendrick.
  22. Plus its been 100 years + since the Cubs won the World Series. If they do that then its going to rain money in Chicago for a while. The Cubs can easily afford to go out and get another pitcher too if they wanted. I am kind of surprised I don't here rumors of them going after Scherzer or Shields right now.
  23. I think he might get the 14-15 million over 4 years and the 5th year as an option. I could be wrong and its a 3 year deal with a 4th as an option but I think he can get the 4th year guaranteed.
  24. Santana vs the other alternatives being thrown out there. Which of these pitchers would you rather have? Vogelsong Kyle Kendrick Edison Volquez Gee (trade with Mets) Ervin Santana These are the best of the starters the Twins have been linked to who are still on the board and haven't turned the Twins down yet. Masterson has moved on from the Twins so he is not included on this list.
