  1. The Twins are currently 55-70 and on a bit of a tear. They have moved up to the 7th pick in next years draft. The are 2 games out of the 4th pick and 3 out of the 3rd. At this point unless the Twins go on a big winning streak or big loosing streak. The Twins are likely competing for the 4th through 8th pick in next years draft with an outside shot at 3rd. At least this year the teams are loosing close games instead of by wide margins. See this years run differential at -50 runs vs last years 190 minus runs. Baby steps I guess. Now lets get back to rooting for that 3rd pick.....
  2. I am still going to go with Cuddyer or Hunter. I think I prefer Hunter slightly over Cuddyer on a 1 year deal. Cuddyer would probably get a 2 year deal. I would be ok with a platoon player like Gomes as we do have in house options that play too Parmelee, Nunez, Escobar, Hicks (if Santana is in CF) and Schaefer. that can be adequate where Cuddyer and Hunter is a slight upgrade and more entertaining.
  3. Most of the injuries listed were minor injuries lasting a few weeks. there were only a few that were season altering. Buxton and Sano, Then Zach Jones, JT Chargrois (Chargrill), Luke Bard, Randy Rosario, and Fernando Romero. The rest of the injuries were of the few week variety so that happens. big deal. One of the injuries as a judgment injury that resulted in a 50 game suspension.
  4. I think both should be kept with Escobar playing some 3rd and LF and some back up 2b while Santana should get a lot of time in CF. both still get lots of time at SS and at other positions while we wait for the 2 super prospects to arrive.
  5. I would pick up his option if we didn't have a bunch of arms coming up.
  6. Actually the foreign contract was for a million. Albers got 800,000 and the twins probably got 500k for that contract. I hope Colabello does get the Sept call up. I don't see him as a starter here but as a bench bat for the corner OF, 1B and DH and RH pinch hitter he could be ok for that.
  7. I agree that I don't think 2014 was supposed to be a rebuilding year. think the Twins really lost a lot of what they were trying to do last offseason on offense when Raj Davis signed with Detroit. That put us in the bid early in the year at CF when there was no one else to play there. Luckily they got their pitchers...Also the Twins had bad luck with their sluggers Willingham was hurt and didn't hit for ave. Colabello didn't progress, Kubel didn't bounce back, Arcia didn't progress, and Mauer got hurt and slumped. If things broke right they could have been competitive at least for an 85 win season. One area we really excelled was developing the farm system. we really have a lot of prospects. So that is making it easer for management to say we are ok to be in a full rebuild now as the prospects are ready or near read.
  8. The first wave of prospects have arrived. There's more coming. So we will even have prospects to trade we have so many of them now. So hopefully this turns into another 10 year run so I don't have to be disappointed before the year even begins.
  9. So we have: Millone Pryor Adams PTBNL and savings of 7-7.5 million plus opens some spots for young players. for Morales Fuld Willingham Corriea With the Twins headed in a downward spiral thee moves makes sense. If they would have been competitive and been around .500 then not necessarily.
  10. I'm ok with a Willingham trade, trading Burton, Swarzak, DL for Arcia, I don't really see anyone else I'd be ok with them loosing. Vargas could go back to the minors but he's been hitting so I'd rather avoid doing that. Deduno has been lights out as a reliever. He had given up 9 runs in 41.33 innings before yesterdays clunker in relief. He currently has a 2.74 relief era and 14 runs in 44.33 innings. And he has 43 strikeouts in those 44.33 innings.
  11. C: Suzuki, Pinto, 1B: Mauer, (Parmelee, Vargas) 2B: Dozier (Escobar) 3B: Plouffe, Nuñez (Escobar) SS: Santana (Nuñez, Escobar) LF: Hicks (Nuñez, Parmelee) CF: Schaefer (Parmelee and Santana) RF: Arcia (Nuñez, Parmelee) DH: Vargas (Mauer, Pinto) Starting Pitchers Nolasco Hughes Millone Gibson May Meyer, Gilmartin, Darnell, Berrios, and Duffy ready for the call. I almost think someone gets traded here. Bullpen: CL: Perkins SU: Fien SU: Pelfry Loogy RP: Theilbar RP: Deunsing Long RP: Dedunno Long RP: Pino There are lots of options here too with Burton, Tonkin, Swarzak, Oliveras, Ibarra, Pressly, and Burdi who I think will be up sometime in the 2nd half of the season.
  12. Depth of the Teams prospects. I looked at Shane's top 50 list and believe that 20-30 re likely to make the majors at some point. Will they all succeed? who knows but it will be fun to watch.
  13. If I were Curt, Minnesota would be one of my top destination choices even if I had to go down to the minors for a few weeks as for this year and next they have one of the best opportunities available to re-establish value. As far as the Twins interest in Curt.....can he catch the ball? If he is a solid CF I am ok with throwing him into the mix with Parmelee and Schafer to compete for playing time/ back up as long as it doesn't cost a lot.
  14. If I a to pick a non Meintkiewicz managerial candidate from outside the organization. I am going with Mike Scioscia as my choice.
  15. I think Gardenhire is a fine choice to be picked as Gardenhire's successor. But maybe Ryan gets a little creative and decides its time for a fan to manage. which poster on Twins daily makes the best manager? Paul Pleiss, Seth Stoh's, Parker Hageman, or Twinsgeek.....
  16. I think the Twins were a lot better this year then last year. You can see that in the run differential. Instead of getting our brains beat in every night we are only losing by 1 or 2 consistently. That Is not going to stop me from rooting against them as they trade for prospects this year. Though the trades made so far is a better accumulation of talent. I still would rather see them with the 4th or 5th pick in the draft next year unless they can turn it around and compete for .500. But the Twins played like they gave up right out the gate at the all star break which is what prompted the trade of Morales and or me to start this thread and change my mindset from hopeful to next year. The draft pick is nice to have a consolation to root for.
  17. maybe, maybe not, He will be close to his innings pitched and there is being able to come up and face live major league hitters. It m not be enough for him to gain situational experience, but he can get the initial experience of being up out of the way.
  18. The Twins could call up Meyer after the AAA season to get a couple of starts and the Twins could limit him to 4 or 5 innings at most per start so he can get 12 -15 innings of experience up here and have Corriea come in and follow up after him to pitch 2 to 4 innings if he is still on the roster or have May follow him and go 4 innings. too so they both get 4 innings per appearance at the end of the season. That way they get the experience and keep the pitch count low.
  19. He even played Florimon with an OPS south of .600.
  20. Ryan only trades CFers for starting pitchers whose last name starts with M ....May, Meyer, Millone
  21. If Meyer lowered his walk rate he'd be in the majors. You will not get enough outs in the majors to offset 5 walks per 9 innings long term in the majors. Matt Batts. if that isn't a baseball name then I don't know what is. I remember Tapia as 1 of the 2 international players from the top 30 we signed that year. He was a high dollar signing so good to see him showing we were right to sign him. It looks like we have numerous pitching prospects in the minors now. How much is the offense in the minors changing the last few years as the offense in the majors has dropped noticeably.
  22. Here's the story of Sidd Finch for those who don't know it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidd_Finch
  23. When Buxton comes up next year halfway through the season, Santana will be without a position as he will go almost a year without playing SS and Escobar so far has done a good job there and Polanco is knocking on the door there as well. Santana if he still has close to an .800 OPS can play LF and have really good range there with all of his speed. Why does he have to remain at SS? Right now do we have any better options there? Rosario is struggling in AA, Parmelee is hitting .710-.720 OPS and Colabello is below .700. Willingham will not be back next season so the only other option is to sign a FA as both Cuddyer and Hunter will be available. What should the Twins do there?
  24. Give it time the Twins will start moving these guys up and in to their major league bullpen over time. Burdi will probably start the changing of the guard at some point next year. Its nice to see both Wimmers and Melotakis doing well after making the jump to AA.
  25. Remember how upset we got when we a no CF options? We keep trading our CF for solid rotation candidates whose last name starts with M. so we needed a replacement through this season and possibly next. He has speed so he does have some value. May be we can find the hitch in his swing that is keeping him from being a solid hitter.
