  1. Rocco Baldelli Regaining 'Manager of the Year' Form, to the Dismay of Haters Rocco Baldelli Regaining Year Form the Dismay of Haters? Rocco Baldelli of the, to the dismay of? Rocco Baldelli Regaining of year to dismay haters? I'll finish working on this after I finish reading the front page and obits.
  2. Non capisco cosa stanno dicendo. ? Buddy Holly Fans probably won't get past the spelling of "The Weeknd" long enough to give "Blinding Lights" a chance.
  3. I like Music but I don't like the opera. I don't speak Italian, so the opera makes no sense to me. If I understood the opera... I might like it better because I do like Music. People tend to hate what they don't understand. If I make no attempt to better my understanding of the opera... my viewpoint will never change.
  4. I agree that perspective is necessary. This particular AAA team is currently winning 4 games out of every 10. If the wheels completely fall of, They will still win 1 out of every 3 games. I sure hope we don't pitch underhand to them. ?
  5. Not to mention... it takes at least 6 months to buy it because of the chip shortage. ?
  6. I was sleeping during med school and I don't have access to the information necessary to have an opinion. I will always rely upon those who make these types of decisions for a living.
  7. I understand why platoons are helpful and statistically justifiable. I understand the overall historical numbers that clearly show an advantage for hitting against the opposite hand. I understand the historical advantage that pitchers have pitching against the same hand. I also understand that when it comes to roster utilization. The 3 teams that I frequently mention as organization I'd like to see the Twins pattern themselves after (Dodgers, Rays and Giants) are heavy platoon teams. However... my concern with the platoon is always going to revert back to development. Celestino has hit righties as well as lefties in the minors so his numbers don't suggest needing a platoon to survive. Taking a young player and short siding sure seems like a good way to limit his future potential. It can be an easy way to break someone into the majors instead of head first but if you don't let him off the leash he will have no future because eventually someone who hits both sides will take his job when roster decisions have to made in the future. In regards to Garlick... this certainly happened to him. Nothing in his minor league numbers suggested a short side platoon limitation but when he finally got his chance with the Dodgers. They made him a short side platoon and that is what he is... forever now. Garlick can mash lefties is the common phrase used around here but he wasn't given a fair chance to mash righties so who knows if he could have at the major league level. Mashing lefties won't save Garlick in the future. Eventually he will be dropped from our 26 man roster. Anyway... In short... I'm hopeful that Celestino gets a good dose of starts against right handers going forward for his development. After all he just had a good week against them. I'll probably get on this soapbox again in the future. ?
  8. Also... this was against right handed pitching. Injuries allowed Celestino out of the short side platoon box for a bit. He did well, he did well in the minors against righties. He's young with his best years in front of him and in need of further development. Yet, I assume that he will be placed back into that box. I'd like to take this moment to question out loud... should he be in that box.
  9. Another consideration concerning Jax last night. When you got a decent sized lead. Pitchers can be instructed to not get cute and pound the zone.
  10. Yes that is exactly what I'm saying. Almost every manager in baseball today does not know what they are doing when it comes to executing the way you'd like. ?
  11. I remember putting quarter after quarter to play Space Invaders and Donkey Kong at the Arcade. I remember sporting a mullet and my girl wearing shoulder pads and renting a movie to watch at Blockbuster and getting fined for late return. I remember not having to take my shoes off at the airport. Times change. This isn't just a Rocco thing once you look around the league.
  12. There is a poll active on Twinsdaily that asks "What should be done with Lewis once Correa returns"? The Majority of respondents feel Lewis should be sent back down to AAA. It's not surprising but yet remains disappointing that so many just can't see anything besides the tiny box that they feel players must be placed in and therefore no room at the inn. Lewis sent down while performing like he has just to keep others on the roster who are performing nowhere close to Lewis... would cause... the first clear appearance of unmistakable erosion in my support of the front office. I understand small sample sizes and I understand that the league will make adjustments to him that could cause problems but I'll say it. He is our 4th best position player at this moment in time. When Correa comes back... Lewis will do a great job in a super utility role.
  13. Past front offices are always going to impact the current one... always. Unless they are the Seattle Kraken... new front offices enter the job with what the past front office left behind. The most important task of any front office is to increase the value of the players on their roster. This is where the organization under Ryan failed and this is where I'm hopeful that Falvey and Lavine will end up fixing. I'd like to believe than any of us would have drafted Byron Buxton in 2012. What happens next is what matters. Trades are almost always equal value on paper when they are made... So if you want to win a trade... you have to help the player you acquired better and increase the value. What happens next is what matters. Increasing the value of players is the most important function of the front office and all of the people they have working for him. We had a long dry spell of... no superstars (high value players) under Terry Ryan. Why? No Twin reaching free agency got the big contract after they ran through their service time with the Twins... No Twin had the value to get anything of value in a trade before they reached free agency. The Orioles produced Manny Machado. Where was the Twins equivalent of Manny Machado? Where was the Twins equivalent of Cody Bellinger? The Dodgers were always drafting late in the round, while the Twins were always drafting early and the Dodgers cranked out superstars underneath their superstars already on their roster. Where were the Twins version of Cody Bellinger and Walker Buehler? We cranked out Brian Dozier and Trevor Plouffe and we got the full 6 years out of them and when they each hit free agency... there was barely any interest in them. We produced average players and played them like they were high value. This is why the front office needed a change. And if we need to change again... this would be why we would need to in the future. Development. This articles acknowledges the role played by the past front offices. Yeah... the new home owner is going to get the condition of the house they bought as is. It's what happen next is what matters.
  14. My personal definition of "For Real" is meaningful baseball in September. I will not fall into the trap of thinking that the playoff results of 5 games diminishes the accomplishment of qualifying for the right to get hot come playoff time. With my personal definition of "For Real". I believe they are for real. The pitching depth is like nothing we've had in quite some time... if ever. That pitching will provide the offense the opportunity to win some games.
  15. Yeah That's right... I forgot about Godoy. I agree On 2nd thought... The Way Kirilloff is hitting... Maybe not.
  16. He's certainly a short term question mark. Plenty of time for him to change future question marks to exclamation points. He should be the first guy sent to St. Paul when a player comes off the DL.
  17. It's possible that a different environment was the thing that helped Wade. The other possibility is the marriage of a player with skill arriving at the of age 27 (Peak Year for most players) and a club that just happened to be readjusting their roster to utilizing the entire roster which provided the opportunity for him to show his peak. His time in Minnesota was 56 AB's in 2019 at age 25. The year we had set the home run record. If he had the skill in 2019 with the Twins to do what he did in 2021 with the Giants... we wouldn't have found it. The Twins were 11 deep with hitters reaching double digit homers... plus Arraez, Cave and Adrianaza with 200 AB's that year. I believe the different environment for Wade was actually his name on the lineup card.
  18. I completely understand your reasoning. It's quite popular to stash talented players in the minors in the name of needing every day playing time. I just don't personally agree with it. It doesn't have to be a scramble, a good manager can provide enough playing time for anyone who earns it. I also believe that rostering a player because he doesn't need every day playing time is a waste of that roster spot and simply wrong in concept.
  19. Personally, I would suggest that Coulombe has earned more innings and also that the young lady in your story had earned more minutes. I gave you a well deserved "Like" because I love any post with an exemplum.
  20. Royce Lewis, Jose Miranda and Gilberto Celestino have options and Nick does not. When you look at him in that context, he becomes less attractive to me. He becomes that player that is good enough that you don't want to DFA and lose for nothing but not good enough to justify keeping better players with options in the minors in order to preserve him. If everyone was healthy (if only for just a couple of days). Keeping Gordon on the roster could mean sending Lewis or Miranda down just to keep Gordon away from the waiver wolves. Gordon needs to play better while he is getting opportunity. Gordon needs to rock the world right now.
  21. Shakespeare is how she got there because "What is past is prologue"
  22. These questions are exactly why these types of signings make me nervous.
