I am not going to use the phrase clubhouse cancer, but he does not exactly work himself into the good graces of his teammates.

    At the time, the Donaldson signing was optimistic. The Twins making a play on an high level player at a position of need. Injuries really robbed the Twins of getting true value out of him as a player, though he was very effective when he did play. Donaldson's clubhouse woes are well documented. The addition by subtraction with Donaldson was very real. Trading Donaldson allowed the Twins some financial flexibility which tipped the dominoes to a handful of moves. I wouldn't really call this a win in the traditional sense, but I do think the signing and then moving of Donaldson opened the door for us to make power play moves like Grey and Correa.

    Nick Gordon is a 4A player at best. Very replaceable. That being said, I do not think he has reached the end of his rope. But I do think he will go before Kepler. We are starting to get far enough into the season where performance decisions start being made. It will be interesting to see how long they stay the course before making some internal moves...

    Agreed, but I think some context is warranted. Kirilloff and Lewis need to be viewed a little differently due to injuries. I know there are studies out there somewhere, but it would be interesting to see an updated report on how the Twins match up against all of baseball on recent draft success.

    I agree, this may be the case. The point I am have been trying to make is I think the proverbial leash on him is longer than other posters in this thread would give him.

    You said if he is in the minors in July he is basically out. I disagree with that premise. I don't believe a strong decision will be made on him until the end of the year. That includes giving him a wide berth in AAA this season if needed. This could all be moot it he smashes, but the Twins have never been a club to churn through prospects. We may just have to disagree here.

    That is not the narrative I am referring to. Age is somewhat irrelevant for this discussion. You have a high ceiling guy that has shown (pre injury) that he could be a potential big league player. He has missed extensive time due to injury, had a very uncommon surgery to fix it, and now you are saying that if he doesn't show the goods in the next few weeks he will be jettisoned from the plans? I find that extremely unlikely. He may not be the first choice to be a starting player, but they will not immediately write him off either. This isn't black or white. There are many viable reasons for the Twins to keep him in AAA that do not mean he is out of their plans.

    I am not a doctor and therefore not able to make medical determinations based on observations. Many, many factors can weigh into his ability to play. Timing, strength, confidence, setbacks. It is not unreasonable to think they will give him a lot of time in AAA, especially if it takes him longer to get back to his "normal" self. Either way, to make the leap that if he spent extended time in AAA this season he would no longer be in their plans is a very large leap to make with a high end prospect.

    I don't agree with that premise. It may take him a considerable amount of time to get his wrist right, that will be done at the AAA level. That doesn't mean he is out of their plans.

    Theoretically Maeda's contract should not impact the Twins decisions with him, but it will. Maeda is another guy they will give some slack to in the SP role. I think it more likely that they would trade him before pushing him to the pen, especially if Ober continues to try to force their hand and the offense continues to stink. Where is Shannon Stewart when you need him...

    Kiriloff will not be immediately thrown onto the mlb roster. I would not be surprised to see him spend the majority of the year in AAA Like it or not, Kepler's leash will be extremely long, like post trade deadline long. Julien will probably be up and down through the year unless he REALLY produces offensively. IMO Gordon is the one at risk. He is the the most replaceable and his play last year is looking more and more like a blip.

    I personally have always felt that 4 years should be the max on any SP. The risk is just too high past that. This is a solid contract for a 1-2 type pitcher. Factor in you are getting his "prime" years and the other factors mentioned in the article, the signing looks extremely strong right now.

    Still some TBD with Camargo in the works and the primarys of the deal working things out. Going by where we are at today, at worst this trade is a tie, or the Twins winning by a smallish margin. Another deal that needs to be revisited in a few years to see how things really worked out.

    While not quoting HIPAA as fact, I was also not using it correctly. I will give the mea culpa on this part. This article gives a better description of HIPAA with regards to professional athletes: https://healthlawpulse.wordpress.com/2021/10/01/hipaa-and-pro-sports-lets-get-the-record-straight/ Regarding the product on the field, using your analogy, Best Buy only provides information they are legally bound to provide and information which they believe will help sell their products. They are not going to provide their marketing plan, their wholesale cost, or any other thousands of items which may give them an edge over their competitors. The Twins balance what they want the public to know with what is actually happening. Very rarely do they match up 100%. Every other sports team in the nation does this. Every business does this. I don't understand how anybody thinks a professional sports team, one that relies on athletic and strategic advantages, should be totally transparent.

    I am not a law expert, so I can't speak to the minutia of HIPAA laws. But to address a few of your points: -TD gets information the same way journalistic enterprises get information. Sources. The legality of their right to that information can always be questioned. (TD Staff - I am not attacking anybody's integrity, but sources are kept secret for a reason) -When it comes to press conferences, the message we are receiving is a combination of truth, half-truth, and spin. Any good FO or Coach will communicate things how they want it to be interpreted. Facts have very little to do with what they say. -My understanding is that most of the players don't really care when it comes to physical injuries because they are impossible to hide or keep secret. But, you will see "undisclosed reason" from time to time when players are held out for a few games. I will say this again: I understand you don't like being in the dark, or being misled, but it is done by athletic teams every second of every day. They will say whatever needs to be said if they think it will give them one ounce of advantage in the next game. The FO does not "owe" it to the fans to be honest or transparent.

    Why do we fans feel as fans entitled to know the health situations of our athletes? They are protected by HIPAA same as you. Transparency would be nice for who? I am sure the other teams would love to know exactly what is going on with Buxton and every other player on every other team. Would make game planning easier... The FO owes the fans NOTHING. The coaching staff owes the fans NOTHING. Internal decisions are not the purview of the general public. You are entitled to be upset about it, but there really should be no level of expectation that they disseminate any decision they make.

    Gotta love all the arm-chair managers making ultimate judgements based on zero percent knowledge of the situation. Athletes aren't robots, regardless of how much money they are being paid. They need to be treated as people, so mental health and physical health need tending to. This includes days off. Can anybody say with certainty that Buxton is 100% healthy? I don't care what the public spin is, we don't know if there is something else going on behind the scenes. If they are truly giving a specific "return to field" timeframe (mid-May), it makes you wonder if he is still fighting some sort of injury. We all want to see one of the best players in the league be a holy terror in the outfield. But when you look at all of the moves being made to not put Buxton in the field, I have to believe there is more going on here than just protecting him.

    IMO, this isn't the question to be asking. Generally speaking, you lose about 20 AB during the season for every slot in the order. Meaning the #1 spot in the lineup will get 20 more AB than #2. #2 will get 20 more AB than #3 and so on. Does Kepler profile as the best person for that role? I don't think Kepler is a good fit for that slot even in the best of years, Part of the discussion with Gallo potentially batting leadoff is the OBP, being on base for the hitters behind him. Kepler does not do that. I think if Kepler was able to be more patient, we would have seen movement in that direction already as he matured. That being said, we can always hope Personally I think the top our lineup should go something like: 1) Buxton 2) Polanco/Miranda 3) Correa After that it there is not much setting one apart from the other. They each have positives and negatives.

    Context... My first post was specifically about this article. The response post was about the TD opinion as a whole. I respect your opinion, it is shared by the majority. I was a little more optimistic about the signing. But one game does not make a season. I would love to see it continue

    You said it was not representative of Twins Daily, not you personally. Anybody who reads Twins Daily and thinks that the large majority of opinions of the Joey Gallo signing were not negative (or borderline vitriolic) are being dishonest or do not read the site.
