  1. Yes, I do believe it's morally wrong to run a major league sports team for profit only - especially when you're an uber-billionaire and your team plays in public funded stadium.
  2. The Pohlads are the 4th richest owners in MLB, and the 75th richest family in America. Sources: https://moneyinc.com/the-20-richest-mlb-owners-in-the-world/ Sources: https://www.forbes.com/profile/pohlad/#3818177f5b07
  3. I like goofy MiLB team names and mascots, so I like this. That font could defnitely be better, though.
  4. Someone watched Moneyball. Just about any MLB player can handle first base. Especially a passable third baseman. Not that he's going to be great there, but he'd be fine. Plus, he has played 223 career innings at 1B.
  5. I'm all for getting Chapman, and giving up the farm to do it. Don't know why we would trade Buxton to do so. If we want better defense, let's not trade our best defender for it. He's to the point where he's going to start getting expensive, as well, so it doesn't make sense if the A's are trying to shed payroll. The trade would start with Kiriloff AND Lewis and I would absolutely be interested in doing that.
  6. The crazy thing is that he's not even the 8th best player ON HIS TEAM. He ranked EIGHTEENTH on the Twins in WAR according to Fangraphs. I don't care if you aren't that big of a believer in WAR, you can't think it's that off. And if you do, look at the players ahead of him: https://www.fangraphs.com/warleaders.aspx?season=2019&team=8 Do you think he was more valuable then those guys?
  7. Yes, let's let Iglesias to the Twins gather more steam. Arraez at 3B, Iglesias at SS, Polanco at 2B, and Sano at 1B. Dramatic defensive improvement. Now the rest is garbage. Miley alone for the rotation obviously wouldn't be good enough.
  8. That's encouraging. Also was curious about the participation in youth baseball compared to football, and found this: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/27448703/youth-baseball-participation-rise "Between 2013 and 2018, the number of U.S. kids playing baseball and softball combined increased by nearly 3 million...The number of participants in youth football -- including tackle, touch and flag -- was down by nearly 1.7 million over the same stretch, and soccer participation dropped by nearly 900,000." Good news for the future of baseball.
  9. We may have had a glut of "SS" prospects but none of them turned out to be a plus defender there. Royce could get better there, but he's not very close to being ready for the majors. If I was in charge, I couldn't stomach another year of Polanco at SS and Arraez at 2B. Arraez doesn't have the traditonal power of a third baseman, but hitting .320+ makes up for that. His arm there isn't ideal, but I think that's probably comes into play less than we think. His range would at least be ok there.
  10. I think infield defense needs to be a huge priority this offseason. But I have a different solution for it. Move Arraez to 3B where he actually had a positive UZR in 130 innings. Move Sano to 1B. Polanco to 2B where he goes from a negative defender to likely a plus defender. And aquire a plus defender at SS. Jose Iglesias on a 1 year deal? A trade? I think think if they did this, the defense would improve immensely. And if Buxton's recovery goes well, all of a sudden you have a very good defensive squad all-around.
  11. Y'all. Imagine Matthew Boyd going from Rick Anderson to Wes Johnson. With his stuff, and a legit pitching coach, he's going to be great. Especially if MLB goes back to a normal baseball, which would help with his biggest weakness. Not that we can count on that.
  12. For the love of God, they can make him playoff eligible. Just like Graterol if they want.
  13. I think people underestimate the toll of playing 6 games a week for 6 months. The human body is going to get worn down, and it's going to effect performance. I don't understand how anyone could be critical of players getting more rest than what they've traditionally gotten. Especially with the depth the Twins had most of the season. It's not going to prevent injuries. It will keep players fresh and improve performance.
  14. If you read The Athletic article by Meredith Wills, it's not that far-fetched that they didn't intentionally "juice" the baseball. They made process improvements that make logical sense. A more perfectly round baseball, lower laces, (this theoretically was to help decrease blisters for pitchers), smoother leather. I don't think they realized how much the smoother leather would decrease drag on the baseball. They surely knew a rounder baseball would have an effect, but it doesn't make sense to not make a perfectly round baseball. They also have a more uniform size, due to process improvements. Unfortunately, the smoother leather has also caused grip issues for pitchers. So most aren't getting blisters from the laces, but blisters under their fingernails from digging into the ball, (Like Odorizzi). I think what they need to do is just make the leather rougher. This would create more drag and improve grip for pitchers. And maybe test the balls in the real-world before making changes.
  15. I got news for ya, we're watching him put it together. He has a OPS+ of 124. Fangraphs has him as a positive on defense. Enjoy it. Quit trying to trade him.
  16. I think you're vastly underestimating Bumgarner. I'd love to add him.
  17. I've been baffled by the doom and gloom this time around. It's a cut on his heel. Cuts don't always heal quickly. He'll miss a few weeks of real baseball and then we can see how he does.
  18. Kind of like the idea of pushing Sano to first and using Marwin at 3rd. Wasn't enthused about him yesterday, but I'm very ok with a 2 year deal.
  19. He doesn't do much for me. Great guy to have under team control for cheap. Not someone you pay to start a lot of games.
  20. Why, exactly? What would knowing this earlier do for us?
  21. Except he provides more power even in a down year, with the potential to bounce back to previous levels. And Grossman should be no more than a DH so position flexibility doesn't give him an advantage, either.
  22. He gets on base a ton, even in a down year. The Twins need that. Cron isn't going to provide it.
  23. I think you are right in general. However, Machado and Harper are special cases. They've hit the market at a young age and should have a great 5 years or so of production. Then you have to deal with the backend of the contract and that's not great. But the goal should be to win a World Series in those 5 years. And that would make it all worth it. The Twins aren't going to sign one, unfortunately. But I think they should. They have the money.
  24. I’m definely excited by the Wes Johnson hire but slightly nervous that the players won’t respect him. I like the outside the box thinking though.
