  1. I'm all for some relief help but I can't stomach paying a reliever multi millions over multi years, when we have plenty of league min guys in the mid/upper levels of the minors and plenty of failed/already under contract starters that could be moved there.
  2. I'd say this is probably why: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=bourjpe01&year=Career&t=b#oppon
  3. What were pre-arbitration salaries back in the early 2000s?
  4. a) I'm not advocating it, just wondering out loud. b ) Would being Tigers-like be so bad? (I realize you said "lite", but I'm not sure we would be inferior to the Tigers)
  5. Just for fun, I wonder what the Twins 25 man roster would look like if they said "screw it" and made the entirety of their minor league talent available for trade in an effort to win in the next 5 years. Buxton. Sano. Berrios. Meyer. Stewart..... Everyone is available. Guys already at in the majors could be available too (Vargas, Arcia, Dozier, Santana, etc)
  6. I can't wait for 11:05 when the Twins finally make their first transaction of these winter meetings.
  7. Traded for Cespedes
  8. I'm fine with standing pat in free agency, but then you can't stand pat in the other 3-4 ways to improve your organization.
  9. I'd be interested to know the historic difference in strikeout rates per league. Last year is was about 0.40 more Ks per game in the NL, but as recently as 2012, it was .18
  10. You know what they say, slow and steady win the top 5 pick..... Not counting losing a tie breaker and having a team not be able to sign a player from the previous draft so they get magically vaulted ahead of you.
  11. While it's always a little discouraging to see a divisional foe get better while we do relatively little to improve our 90 loss team. When that team is Chicago, I don't get too bent out of shape. It highlights the fact that we aren't doing anything, but by no means do I think that the Twins have the financial options that the Sox do. It's when teams like Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Kansas City start flashing money around to fill areas of need that I start to get truly unhappy with the way the Twins continue to do things. There is no reason we shouldn't be able to outspend those franchises. NONE. Outspending doesn't always have to mean free agency either. You can give up prospects with the idea that will outspend in other ways to make up for those lost prospects.
  12. Torii's defensive metrics in press conferences are off the charts!!
  13. Leave it to the Twins to never talk to the hottest Coaching candidate (Maddon), then have their Molitor hire get COMPLETELY overshadowed when Maddon gets hired by another team. It's just too perfect.
  14. I'm generally not a Mauer hater, but those other "low payroll" successful franchises don't have a $23M payroll anchor at first base. The fact that he is being paid by the Twins means that the Twins "base" payroll number needs to be about $22.5M higher than those other teams in order to be on a level playing field.
  15. Hughes and Hamels, then we're in shambles
  16. Eddie Rosario with all multi-hit games so far (four 2-hit games)
  17. In this context is "soft" a compliment? I'm leaning toward no.
  18. The Twins paid for the whole stadium. Hennepin County just offered them a very generous -100% APR loan for $350M of it.
  19. RE: The NFL Maybe a decade or so ago, the NFL games were getting out of hand and the NFL did something about it. Specifically, running time even on out-of-bounds plays, other than near the end of each half. Games were routinely still going 3:15 or 3:20, which precipitated the push back of most of the late afternoon games to 3:25. This year I've actually noticed a few games finishing before 3:00. Progress.
  20. Taking pitching changes out of the equation for a second, a shorter game would actually generate more ad revenue for broadcast stations. You're locked into 2 commercial breaks every inning, which then gets you to 18 for the game (again... ignoring pitching changes). FSN would much rather those 18 commercial breaks be packed into two and a half hours rather than three and a half. That leaves them a whole extra hour to sell ads for.
  21. Jamie Hersch was a FSN Girl. She's doing pretty well moving up. Just saying.
  22. I found myself yelling at Aaron "WHAT IS YOUR FREAKING POINT" during his strange 20 minute discussion about Terry Ryan, after he housed the breakfast burrito. 2006 wasn't as good as we like to remember it was? Years later we remember the good and gloss over the bad? You know what else works like that? EVERYTHING!
  23. I have no idea about how that process would work, but it seems to me that the reason for that requirement in the CBA is so that draft slot and draft pool money wasn't lost. With that said, it seems that it would make sense to slide everyone up one pick in the first round, then have the random lottery selection fall at the end of the round. I mean could you imagine if it truly was a lottery for the 5th overall pick and some big market team won the pick? People would never stop crying foul.
  24. The annoying part about finishing with the 4th worst record, yet drafting 6th isn't even that we "dropped" 2 spots, it's that we lost 2 spots worth of draft pool money. I understand the need for a tiebreaker (between MN and Houston), but in my opinion both teams should receive equal draft pool money and getting a team slotted in ahead of your shouldn't cost you pool money either. The drop from 4th to 6th costs us $1.1M in draft pool money (using the 2014 numbers), through no fault of our own. Only because a) Houston couldn't sign their pick and b.) Houston sucked worse than we did in 2013.
