  1. Twins fielders have given up twice as many baserunners today as the pitchers.
  2. Kyle Gibson doing his best Yohan Pino impression recently
  3. FIP is not a stat. It's a projection or predictor He has better stats than those other two.
  4. Last 8 starts: 6-0 52.1 IP 0.898 WHIP 1.20 ERA 12.04 K/9
  5. Good for him. Hard for him to do more than he's done so far this year.
  6. For the sake of completeness: http://www.homeplate.kr/pitcher/64737
  7. http://espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=330806107 (pretty darn close)
  8. Martinez should have just run it in from LF and tagged out Morales
  9. Probably one inning in that Sunday in July.
  10. Why is it that xFIP always seems to help these 5.00+ ERA guys? Maybe the formula starts to break down when a players stinks like Correia has. At some point the "X" (expected) shouldn't always be a run better than the actual.
  11. I know that he started the year slowly, but when Buxton made that same jump last year he struggled for the first month, then he set the world on fire. Because Buxton was a super-prospect and young for the league he got a pass. "He'll figure it out. He's just adjusting to better pitching." It fit the narrative. With Adam Brett Walker he isn't a super prospect (although he's put up super numbers). The narrative is different. People are expecting him to fail more. So when he struggle for the first month, it wasn't "He'll figure it out. He's just adjusting to better pitching." Instead it was "see, I told you his production wasn't sustainable." It fit the narrative.
  12. 7 inning complete game. Less impressive from an innings perspective, but more impressive from a K/9 perspective
  13. Last 5 starts: 0.89 WHIP (18H, 10BB) 0.86 ERA 31.1 IP 45 K
  14. I like this lineup. The only way it could be better is with Mauer playing 1st and Suzuki DH-ing, but I think we all know that will not happen. Any lineup that has The Fire Hydrant in the 8 hole, can't be all bad.
  15. OK... now I want to watch Tombstone
  16. SSS doesn't apply to strategic decisions.
  17. I just had a mental image of DeRosa leading off first in his electric motorized scooter with Gardy in the dugout working the stopwatch to see if he should send MotorizeDeRosa
  18. Normally I would agree with the "it's just one game" crowd, but the fact that it was his FIRST game back, and with the context of the current CF situation at the big league level, I think it is a huge deal. On July 1st 2014 who would you rather have playing CF? Danny Santana or Eddie Rosario? Hey, I love what Danny Santana has done so far for our Minnesota Twins, but with those two choices, I pick Rosario. What's crazy is that I'm not even sure how far fetched this hypothetical situation is. The thing that probably makes it the most far fetched is the Twins probable reluctance to "reward" Rosario at all this year.
  19. Sometimes I feel like he is in "catcher mode." He doesn't want to question the ump, because he thinks he can get it back on the other side of the plate. Catcher mode = Don't piss off the ump. Joe, you're a first baseman now. Feel free to be an a-hole and lay into an ump every once in a while.
  20. If Nola going above us means we get Jackson, then I am all for it, but I've got a seat booked on the Nola bandwagon.
  21. What is Gordon's upside? Starting ML Shortstop with an OK hit tool, not much power, and not as much speed as his brother? I'm sure I'm selling him short, but someone tell me where.
  22. Worked for this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_Hrudey
