  1. 3-5 years after the Pohlad family doesn't own the team anymore. Otherwise, likely never.
  2. I have zero faith this is actually the case. Pohlads will want a near minimum payroll so I expect Ryan and Lopez are gone in the offseason. 100+ losses is a near lock in my opinion for 2026. If things go poorly it could get 2025 Rockies ugly next year.
  3. Falvey thinks he's prime Bill Belichick waiting until the last second to announce any roster moves. As if CLE cares.
  4. I was at the Twins vs Cardinals game they talked about here when I was a young teenager. I remember being super let down that Big Mac hardly even made contact.
  5. I'm not sure our 97 OPS+ first baseman is the best argument for a solid Falvey pickup.
  6. I wonder if the Pohlads can even afford to pay for another manager. Also, with the team for sale I'm not sure we would have many top tier candidates interested who then might get fired when a new owner wants to bring in their own guy. I fear we are just stuck with what we have until the Pohlads are gone. 20 years too late.
  7. The most obvious answer is that generations #2 and #3 of this ownership group is just not that good at business in general. They have sold off multiple businesses at a loss over the past few years and muck up nearly every Twins opportunity that comes in front of them. Grandpa Carl's fortune was vast enough that the kids and grandkids had a lot of margin for error but that seems to be at an end and they need to cash out of the baseball team.
  8. I remember 2001 much more fondly. It was the first light we had seen in nearly a decade and was at least something to build on. I would take the feeling from 2001 10 times out of 10 versus the garbage of 2024.
  9. I am surprised nobody has mentioned that Duran is yet another haul from the Pierzynski trade where the Twins got Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano, and Boof Bonser. They later traded Liriano for Escobar, who then of course landed them Duran.
  10. Isn't Ch 45 owned by Sinclair? The same parent company of Bally which I'm guessing would be a non-starter.
  11. According to Umpire Scorecards the home plate umpire favored the other team in all but one playoff game which was the game 3 drubbing. Game Umpire Fav Outcome WC Game 1 Andy Fletcher 1.46 runs for TOR 3-1 MIN WC Game 2 Adam Hamari 0.96 runs for TOR 2-0 MIN ALDS Game 1 Brian Knight 0.43 runs for HOU 6-4 HOU ALDS Game 2 DJ Reyburn 0.77 runs for HOU 6-2 MIN ALDS Game 3 Bill Miller 0.31 runs for MIN 9-1 HOU ALDS Game 4 Jansen Visconti 0.48 runs for HOU 3-2 HOU After this many years of getting hosed it's hard to not at least nibble on some conspiracy theories that MLB puts their finger on the scale to get their preferred matchups. The moral of the story is that the Twins can't just be a little bit better. They need to be a LOT better than the big market teams to move farther into the playoffs.
  12. I feel like the best old school argument against Cole for Cy Young is that he pitches for a loser in the Yankees. His heroics have been for nothing. I don't actually buy that argument but I really enjoy typing that the Yankees are a trash team that has been playing for nothing for the past month.
  13. He is near the top of all of the offensive players on the team in Win Probability Added, which does take into account game situation. You can complain about being injured too much but arguing he does not impact games is just silly.
  14. Always a great time to relive that memory. :-)
  15. I love the image of you jokingly considering adding two and a half hours of drive time to avoid driving through Iowa only to find out it requires extensive South Dakota and Nebraska road time.
  16. I very vaguely remember watching the 1991 playoffs at home on tv when I was 7. Living in rural Minnesota my parents almost never had people over and so I vividly remember a bunch of neighboring farmers were over. After all of that excitement I was hooked. The first game I remember attending in person was sometime in 92-93 range from the old Skybox. I remember Kirby Puckett had an inside the park home run but being that I was 8 or 9 it easily could have been a 2B with a two base error. My baseball reference play lookup skills are failing me to find the exact game. Either way that was crazy exciting to see those legends that I watched on TV in '91 play in person. Loved this article!
  17. Completely different front office and coaching staff than the last four times?
  18. Sano frustrates me too, but only quoting his AVG with RISP is cherry picking. He also has a .340 OBP and .500 SLG with RISP. That's coming typically out of the 7th spot in the lineup which is insanity. I'm more concerned about his home/away splits. On the road his slash line is .269/.324/.699 At home? .182/.308/.348
  19. I'd be willing to bet against elite pitching failure rate goes way up regardless of your free-swinging tendencies.
  20. In general I agree the staff needs help but the defensive errors, combined with what seemed like a non stop barrage of weak Royal contact finding a hole made for some pretty tough situations for both Perez and the relief staff today.
  21. The team's opening day payroll is like $24m less than what they spent in 2018. I think they can certainly afford to eat a few arb raises and not blow up the team. Also, I believe Perez has a team option for 2020 and Cron has one more year of arb left after this year. We also have Addison Reed's $8.5m coming off the books after this year.
